The Rose Bay Early Years Centre specialises in the nurture and education of 3, 4 and 5 year old boys whilst offering long day care for working parents.

Inspired by the work of educators in Reggio Emilia which models a partnership with children, teachers and parents, the Early Years Centre is a place of adventure, growth and learning. The aim of the program is to support the boys’ natural curiosity, eagerness to learn and their love of communication with others. Scots’ learning environment is designed to provoke curiosity and constantly challenge their thinking.

About the Centre

Curiosity in the world

On entering the exciting world of Scots’ Early Years Centre, each boy is an active discoverer of his new world. An innovative, colourful and adventurous program leads our youngest Scots boys along the beginning of their Scots learning pathway.

Harnessing a boy’s natural curiosity and energy, the Centre’s play-based learning framework is informed by Reggio Emilia principles and encourages each boy to explore and discover his world. The Centre’s learning environment is designed to provoke curiosity and constantly challenge boys’ thinking through play.

Through the power of play, boys discover letters and numbers, words and counting, forming the foundations of literacy and numeracy.

Boys are free to choose experiences which are of the most interest to them, to collaborate with others and to explore areas of interest in depth. Emphasis is placed on concrete ‘hands on’ experiences which allow an exploration of child-initiated questions and a study of the investigative process rather than a focus on the answer or preconceived outcome.

Our teachers work alongside the boys to investigate, research and discover that which is meaningful. The teacher’s role is very much as

facilitator, guiding children to find the answers, not providing the answers themselves.

In the Early Years Centre’s supportive and active learning environment, every boy learns to explore new ideas with confidence.

The Early Years Centre Program

At Scots’ Rose Bay Early Years Centre, a boy’s intellectual development is fostered through a range of their many natural ‘languages of learning’ such as movement, drawing, painting, words, music, dramatic play, collage, painting and sculpture. The Centre’s happy, caring and homely environment is designed to be rich in potential to engage boys in discovery and learning.

The Centre provides vibrant activities that cater to growing boys’ needs, with play-based learning, whole group activities and small group discoveries with intentional and integrated teaching of early literacy and numeracy.

The Early Years Centre also has an outdoor play area with soft fall, open play and undercover play areas, sandpits and age relevant climbing and play equipment where the boys can run, play and dance.
