Albemarle Avenue, Rose Bay, 2029 T: 02 9371 4800 E: [email protected] School Newsletter – 7 th May 2020 Term 2 Week 2 As you know our transition to school phase starts on Monday. As a community, we have come so far and it is important we get this next phase right. We need your support to ensure our ongoing success and to keep that curve flat. After an extended period in self isolation, we need the opportunity to get distancing, cleaning and hygiene practices right, with smaller numbers of students first, gradually building to bigger groups, and then finally all 600 students. A phased return-to-school allows us to implement, monitor, and evaluate health and safety practices and implement social distancing, so as to protect both students and teachers. Your continued support for the next few weeks will ensure our long-term success and everyone’s safety. Rose Bay, together we can do this and make a significant difference to our kids, our community and our teachers. Monday 11 May, we will move into Phase One of the managed return to school for students. In this phase, all NSW students will attend school one day per week and learn from home 4 days per week. The schedule for Rose Bay PS students to return one day per week is as follows: Monday - Kindergarten Tuesday - Year 1 and 2 Wednesday - Year 3 and 4 Thursday - Year 5 and 6 Friday - No students Class teachers have had significant input into the development of this plan. Teachers are keen to see their students and this plan allows teachers to spend one day per week with their own class and practise social distancing. Thank you in advance for your support of this plan and in understanding that we are unable to accommodate individual requests at this time. Families who need to send their child to school each day As you are aware, all NSW public schools are open. However, apart from the one day per week, parents are still encouraged to continue to support learning from home on the other days. We are aware that some parents are essential workers and need to send children to school. However, in our collective quest to ‘flatten the curve,’ we respectfully ask that if you can continue to assist with learning from home for the four days per week, that you do so. We can only implement social distancing because limited numbers enable us to open up classrooms to double spaces. There is no social distancing when students return altogether. Planning for Term 2 Week 2 of Term 2 and we are truly back into the swing of things in our new normal. Our Learning @ Home Hub, along with See Saw, continue to go from strength to strength. Out statistics for the first three days of Term 2 can only be described as impressive. An amazing 4,845 pieces of work uploaded and an incredible 4,231 teacher comments. Wow! Well done students and teachers. Sick students As per current health guidelines, please keep students who are sick, at home until symptoms clear. This week some students arrived with coughs and colds and feeling generally unwell. Keeping unwell children at home until symptoms have cleared keeps us all healthy and ready to learn and work. As you are aware, all NSW public schools are open. Week 2 of Term 2 and we are truly back into the swing of things in our new normal. Our Learning @ Home Hub, along with See Saw, continue to go from strength to strength. Out statistics for the first three days of Term 2 can only be described as impressive. An amazing 4,845 pieces of work uploaded and an incredible 4,231 teacher comments. Wow! Minimisation of parent movement on the school grounds – Thank you in advance

Please ensure you continue to practise social distancing at these times. Until further notice, we ask parents not to enter the classrooms. Teachers have asked me to mention this and I thank you in advance. It is now more important than ever that we maintain excellent hygiene and social distancing practices so as to keep that curve flat. We ask that parents drop children off in the playground as close to 9.20am as possible and pick them up promptly at 3.20pm. OC Applications – Delayed Until Further Notice

Applications for Year 5 placement in an Opportunity Class in 2021 have been delayed until later in the year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing guidelines. Revised timing and dates, including a new date for the Opportunity Class Placement Test, will be announced as they become available. Applications can only be made online and late applications are not accepted. Please note that our school has no involvement in the application process.

For detailed information about the process of placement in Opportunity Classes, please visit https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 Conservatorium of Music Auditions for Entry 2021

Applications close June 5 2020. To apply go to https://conhigh.nsw.edu.au/2021-entry-application/ and fill out the Expression of Interest. Due to exceptional circumstances brought about by the Covid-19 Virus and the need to ensure that ‘social distancing’ requirements are scrupulously adhered to, the Conservatorium High School has made some changes to the way it will be conducting this year’s assessment and audition process for students applying for entry in 2021. Auditions will begin in July. School Uniform Shop

The school uniform shop will be closed until further notice. However, back-orders and online orders will be processed every Wednesday. A text message will be sent to you once your order is available for collection. Orders can be collected from a table outside the school office between 9.30 and 11am daily. Social Distancing Rules must be maintained during collection of your orders please. If you require any further information regarding orders please call or text Alice on 0466 627 471 or email [email protected] for assistance. Canteen

Our canteen is currently not operational. We will advise families once the canteen is up and running. School Archives-Send in your photos

Thank you to all those who have sent in their working from home photos. Not only have I looked at every single one, but I have loved them all. They are fantastic! Thank you. A reminder that photos of your children working from home, for inclusion in the school archives and special edition newsletter, can be emailed to [email protected] Keep them coming!! Enjoy the attached photos. These are just a few. I have particularly enjoyed family pets participating in home learning activities as well. As I said they make my day. Stay safe everyone. I am thinking of you all. Together we can do this safely.
