Romanian National Paralympic Committee

In December 1990 a group of initiative containing members with sport affinity for sport activity of people with disabilities, they set up a group inside of the group of the founding members of Romanian Federation of Handicap Sport(s) as the federation was named at the beginning.

In the year 1992 through the will of the Government at that time, Romania was represented at the first Paralimpic Games for the persons with mental handicap, Madrid, Spain, participation that came along with the official state of the Romanian Federation. 

The participation of our representatives had an extraordinary social impact through the obtaining of 23 medals - 10 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 7 bronze medals on athletics, reduce soccer, swimming, table tennis.

The year 2001 came along with reglementation of the juridical state of our federation. Through the application of the 69/2000 low, our federation along with others national sport federations, became a juridical person with private rights and public utility.

Also at that time the name had change into the name that exist in the present - ROMANIAN SPORT FEDERATION FOR DISABLED PEOPLE.

Even that the principal purpose of FRSPH is not obtaining performances, is remarkable that since 1992 the sportsmen with different disabilities, representing Romania at international competitions, obtained remarkable results.

Romania’s participation in Paralympic games

Romania's first participation in the Paralympic Games was the summer edition in 1972 in Heidelberg (Germany).Romania's representatives in the competition returned 24 years later, in 1996 in Atlanta (USA).

Romania won three medals in Paralympic Games history, all won by Carol-Eduard Novak in cycling. The athlete won a gold medal at C4 tracking test track at the Paralympic Games in London (2012) and two silver medals.

At the 1972 edition, Romania participated with a single sports: Alexander Vladimir Peev, table tennis, who finished in places 5-8.

In 1996, the Atlanta Athlete Romanian Aurel Aries was the only participant to sample powerlifting (weight lifting), which was ranked 12 out of 13.

In Sydney in 2000, Adrian Sandu was Romania, also at sample weight lifting, where he ranked 16th.

Olympic history Rider Carol-Eduard Novak started in Athens in 2004 when it was ranked 4th (out of 14)

In Beijing in 2008, Romania has competed five athletes. Besides rider Carol-Eduard Novak, biking attended Arnold Csaba Butu and Lehel Ruzsa. Carol-Eduard Novak competed in four events cycling and took the silver medal in the individual category LC2 class. Corina Viorica Cusutura participated in this edition proven weight lifting and Crina Steliana Tugui in wheelchair tennis.

Laura Văleanu is the first Romanian athlete who competed at the Winter Paralympic Games in Vancouver in 2010. She participated in alpine skiing, giant slalom samples (which ranked 14 of 23) and slalom.

At the 2012 edition of the Summer Olympics, Romania participated with six athletes in four sports. Carol-Eduard Novak won gold in the individual category C4 and C4 silver in the road. Cycling and Imre Torok competed. For the first time, our country had a representative in athletics: Marius Florin Cojoc competed in the long jump F46 category.Swimming and were presented for the first representatives of our country: Naomi and Samuel Ciorap brothers. Table Tennis Dacian Maksin participated in individual C3.

Laura Văleanu was again the only representative of Romania at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, which were held on 7 and 16 March.Sports aged 24 years was the only one in Romania qualified Paralympics in Sochi. She took off all competition in alpine skiing. Over the nine days of competitions in Sochi, 547 athletes from 45 countries competed for 72 sets of medals in five samples of winter sports.

Romanian representatives at the Paralympics

Marius Florin Cojoc is the first Romanian athlete who has qualified for the Paralympics athletics samples. He is 32 years old and became European champion in the long jump in 2012 after, in 2010, was the silver medalist at Bologna in the 100 meters and long jump. In the same year, he won the bronze medal at the championship from Malaga, in the same samples.

Carol Eduard Novak (37) was the national champion in speed skating, but could not practice the sport after a serious traffic accident suffered as a teenager when he left with a disabled. He began to practice cycling, and in 2011 became world champion in Denmark. In 2012, he became world champion in the time trial test on one kilometers track

Imre Torok (48) took third at Cup of Paraciclism on Highway 2011 in Belgrade in class C5.

Brothers Naomi (16) and Samuel Ciorap (18), both blind, began to practice swimming performance in 2009. Naomi Sock won two gold medals and one silver at the 2010 World Championships in Turkey. His brother, Samuel, came in 2012 first in the 100 meter backstroke, the International Swimming Championships in Hungary.

Dacian Makszin is international champion at table tennis. Confined to a wheelchair, practice this sport level of performance and is one of two athletes who managed to qualify Romania to the sample table tennis at the Paralympics.

Văleanu Laura , 24, was one of Romania qualified Paralympics in Sochi. Laura Văleanu giant slalom finished in 7th place in Sibiu Sports boasts 5th (slalom) and No. 7 (giant slalom) at the 2014 Paralympic Games.
