HUMBER, ENGLANDThe site had been identified for the installation of a windfarm, this site was on agricultural land, this land was unsuitable for a wheeled CPT rig however the crawler rig was suitable to handle the terrain.
This project involved 2 Cone Penetration Tests and a Seismic Dilatometer test at each of the 12 wind turbine locations. In addition to the In situ testing a borehole was also carried out at each location.
Over a period of 2 weeks, the crawler performed well, sometimes in very wet ploughed fields. The client was impressed by the amount and quality of data obtained from the CPTU and the seismic dilatometer.

ProjecT review
newPorT/ Maindee dePoT, wales In Situ were asked to work on a long term rail project for a client utilising our rail rig and undertaking day shifts and night time possessions. The project involved CPTs, pressuremeter, seismic dilatometer and installation of vibrating wire piezometers.
The rig is attached to the road railer platform which then enables us to perform the necessary testing to provide our client with the high quality geotechnical data that they require.
The project relates to the electrifying of the Great Western route to make journeys more reliable, greener and quieter for thousands of passengers. The electrification of one of Britain’s busiest and oldest railways will improve connections between major towns and cities across southern England and South Wales.
