Some of the general assumptions and leading question wetook as a guideline were:

We decided on a universal approach which can be used inter-nationally and does not have national or specific culturalconnotations.

For this reason we used a very simple, reduced and easy toreproduce design.

Colour:

In order to avoid any colour specific interpretations wedecided to use black and white. Using other colours may leadto unwanted interpretations such as the colours of nationalflags or other colour codes, which we didn’t intend or evendidn’t know about.

A good side effect is that black and white is easier to repro-duce, and does not require professional devices, or even acolour printer.

In addition, the use of black and white in web design is rareand therefore an outstanding element.

Font:

Following our concept of simplicity and easy reproduction,we decided to use the font »Arial« (true type font) which isavailable in Cyrill ic, Greek, Arabic and Hebrew, and is preins-talled in most computers.

As can be seen in the examples below, there are also desi-gned versions, but the core of the logo is kept in a way thateverybody can type it on their keyboard (i.e. with no need todownload it).

Logo:

We decided to take the known symbol – the curly bracket –but to deconstruct and interpret it in our way, so that it willrepresent solidarity:

By only using one side, the brackets stay open, therefore be-coming a symbol for openness, against exclusion, avoiding

the expected closing border of the frame.

The space after the bracket is a graphic tool which also em-phasises the openness of the logo. The two additional digitsin the graphic design further help in aligning the logo.

Conceptual:

In addition, we thought of providing everybody with a wideset of tools and pre-produced materials, such as stickers,posters, pre-cut stencils, buttons, barrier tape etc.

This set of tools would enhance the possibilities for usageand make it easy to start promoting without much effort.

The website as the main public communication tool wil l

contain a download section with logos, banners, gifs (littleanimated images for the web), available to everybody for theusage in the digital world.

Moreover there will be an internal website (communicationforum) , not open to the public, which will ser ve for internaldiscussion and private exchange of ideas.
