Recipes

The Raspberry Energy Smoothie

• ¾ cup water • ½ cup almond milk • 1 cup raspberries • ½ peach or 4 wedges (if using a frozen product) • ½ banana • 1 cup (large handful) baby spinach • 1 tbsp. ground flax meal • 1 tbsp. almond butter • 1 tbsp. lemon juice

The Green Detox Smoothie

• 1 heart of romaine • 1 peeled cucumber • ½ green apple • 1/4 peeled lime • 1 tbsp. coconut oil • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk • 1 cup pineapple

The Hottie Smoothie • ½ cup mango • 1 cup blue berries • 1 ½ cup coconut water (one of the 11.1 ounce- Vita Coco work fine) • 1 cup (or large handful) baby spinach • 1 cup (or large handful) kale • ¼ avocado • ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper • 1 tbsp. lemon juice • 1 tbsp. ground flax meal

Tips

• Prep smoothies for the day (or for the full 3 days) ahead of time. Measure ingredients according to recipes and store them in airtight mason jars. When you are ready to go, pour the contents of your mason jar into the blender, blend until creamy, and pour back into the mason jars to enjoy throughout the day. Wait to blend smoothies for the day on that day. The smoothies begin to oxidize and look a little funky if they sit for too long.

• A good blender is helpful, but not necessary. A Ninja or VitaMix will make this process easier, but I have made fantastic smoothies with my thirty-dollar blender too. Be patient, pausing regularly to push down the sides. Blend thoroughly, and check to ensure no large chunks slip through.

• Chia seed is a highly nutritious food that may be substituted for flax meal in any smoothie. It will make a creamier drink, although it must be consumed immediately upon blending. Chia will absorb all the liquid in your smoothie if it sits, leaving a pudding/ gel consistency that is better eaten with a spoon.

• Because the water content of fruits and vegetables varies, if needed, add water to adjust the consistency of any smoothie.

• These are savory smoothies designed to provide maximum nutrition, support detoxification and reset our taste buds. Use generous handfuls of leafy greens (spinach and kale). They are low in calories, packed with valuable nutrition and are alkalizing (key to detox).

• A scoop of raw plant-based protein powder (such as Sun Warrior) may be added to any smoothie. I put a half-scoop of vanilla Sun Warrior- Warrior Blend in The Hottie Smoothie and it was delish!
