An energetic vibe is often embraced for Spring/Summer but this trend also lends a relaxed and laid-back yet luxurious feel to the spring/summer 2012 season, with movement and optimism being keys words. Performance, lifestyle sports and dancewear take centre stage, in a season that revolves around comfort and simplicity yet also having an element of fierceness and a sense of the physically powerful. The clothing varies from loose fitting, flowing and fluid shapes in fabrics such as jersey and silk to tight fitting, body-con styles in lycra and the return of spandex. With influences all around including the London 2012 Olympics, the remake of the movie Footloose, and 2011s Black Swan, 2012 Spring/Summer will focus heavily on a dance and ex-ercise lifestyle and this will be reflected in the collections. Consumers still have a desire for longevity and eco-friendly designs and this is considered witin the trend, replacing momentary value with key pieces that will last indefinitely.

With the Olympic games looming on the horizon of 2012, they can’t help but make an impact on the design world, primarily Fashion. We have seen sports luxe drip-drop into the collections for the past fewseasons in small micro trends and accessories, thanks to the likes of Dsquared2, Alexander Wang and Ralph Lauren’s consistent athletic aesthetic. With Stella McCartney now designing the official uniforms for the UK 2012 Olympic team, along side her much coveted collaboration with Adidas for the 7th year running, Sports Luxe will be a major trend for Spring/Summer 2012.

Mood and Colour DirectionClever layering and softly draped fabrics in a contrasting colour palette of light to dark grey and navy blue, with flashes of red and yellow tones to create a luxurious and supple feel. The clothing will consist of loose fitting tanks, leotards with revealing geometric cutouts, mesh inserts, micro shorts and flattering jersey layers

Accessories Regarding accessories there will be an interest in flat but structural shoes, luxury trainers, soft gym bags and tan leather details.

DetailsThere will be a focus on exposed seams, lacing detail, straps and fastenings and also on the loose cut of the fabric causing it to drape in a relaxed manner. Straps and asymmetric lines will take center stage whilst the tight fitting and cropped clothing give a feeling of fitness apparel

With the 2011 film Black Swan having been a major hit and also the remake of Footloose on the cards, dancewear in Fashion will be a veryinfluential trend in 2012.

An atmosphere of flowing elegance and graceful movements expresses itself in a dance inspired trend. A mood of glamorous yet relaxed style with a contemporary interpretation of classic ballet chic and a new twist on 80’s dancewear. This fluid and feminine look focuses on soft, flowing and delicate shapes in simple, plain yet luxurious fabrics.

Mood and colour directionA soft and elegant colour palette features powder pinks, peaches and light greys with the occasional flash of dark blue and black. Key items will include softly draped tops and fuelling a lust for all thing ballet, pleated skirts in light floatly fabrics will have a moment. Dancer floor length pleated organza and transparent silk chiffon skirts in soft pastel and blush hues create a feminine spring style. This obvious feminine vibe will be juxtaposed with silver studs and a slight tough 80s look, including high-waisted tight trousers and baggy jersey items. Long skirts, loose playsuits, tight trousers and luxurious knits are key to working this look.

Accessories Metallic accessories and luxe leather bags are crucial. Teamed with flat pumps or mid heels, delicate silver and gold jewellery and light embellishments.

Details A focus on rough edges and unfinished and fraying seams add to the delicate feel, whereas silver studding and metallic splashes toughen the look up.
