Our school year is underway and we’re really pleased with how things are going! This year you will see assistant principals, Mrs. Brenda Pohlman & Mrs. Rachel Dorsey representing the administrative team at R.E. Bennett. As many of our third grade parents are already aware from what was communicated last year, Mr. Bob Hunt will serve as the principal & Mrs. Brenda Pohlman will serve as the assistant principal of the new K-2 building. Next door at the new 3-5 building, Mr. Brett Ellingson will be the principal & Mrs. Rachel Dorsey will be the assistant principal. This implementation continues to support the process that was started last year with the upcoming transition to the new buildings. Construction is underway on our new schools: James Lintott Elementary (K-2) and Orin Smith Elementary (3-5). At this point we anticipate that James Lintott Elementary will be open to K-2 students for the fall of 2018. Orin Smith Elementary is presently on hold due to the state’s capital budget freeze. As soon as those funds become available, construction will continue on Orin Smith Elementary for our 3-5 students. As we prepare for the new schools to open, Cascade, R.E. Bennett and Olympic will be here to serve students. As an administrative team we are committed to student safety and student learning as our top priorities. We are here to support you and your child with needs as they arise during the school year and into the transition of the years ahead. Warm regards from the R.E. Bennett Administrative Team!

Research shows that attendance is the single most important factor in school success. Those students who miss a lot of school do not do as well. It becomes difficult for teachers to fill in the gaps they have missed, which makes for discouragement on the part of students. Recently a district attendance letter was sent home for parents to read, sign, and return to school. The information in this letter helps to ensure parents understand the attendance policy in our district. When your child misses school, we miss them!

    Help for

    Families

ParentHelp123.org is perhaps the best website currently available to parents who are seeking help finding food and health resources in Washington state. If you have access to the internet go to:

http://resources.parenthelp123.org you may also call (800) 322-2588 to ask questions. Help is available in all languages.

Please remember that cars cannot be left parked and unattended on the school side of the street on either 2nd or 3 rd Streets . Violators may receive a ticket from the Chehalis Police Department .

Lost & Found Every year our lost and found collection gets to be very large. Using a permanent marker, please take a few moments & put your

student’s name in his/her outer garments that

    are worn to school.

Volunteers Welcome! Volunteer clearances are good for two (2) years. If you are a first-time volunteer, the time to apply is NOW so you will be ready for volunteer opportunities (several of our classes have already gone on field trips)! If you have previously applied, you can always check with the office to see when your clearance expires.

Lunchtime! Parents are always welcome to come and have lunch with their student. When you come, please be sure and have the exact change ($3.35) with you, and don’t forget to sign in at the office!

Picture Day! Individual pictures were taken on Wednesday, September 20th by Parsons Studio. If you are dissatisfied when you receive your child's picture packet, you may return the entire packet on Wednesday, October 18th on retake day. This is also a time to have pictures taken if you missed the September date.

Health & Hope Free Medical Clinic was started by a team of volunteer doctors and nurses. Their purpose is to provide a high quality of care for uninsured patients in Lewis and south Thurston Counties. The clinic is located at 1911 Cooks Hill Rd. in Centralia and is open on Tuesdays between the hours of 5:30-8:00 pm. If you are uninsured, you are encouraged to advantage of this wonderful resource to help keep your family well! No appointment is needed.

Help our school library expand 10¢ at a time! Last year our school earned $1,650.00 (really!) through your collection of Box Tops for Education. That’s 16,500 Box Tops! It’s easy to see it’s worth that few seconds to “clip the tops” and send them to school!
