I’d like to Thank our 2 City Coun-cil candidates for attending our

Aug 15th forum, as well as Thank Paisano’s and Mama’s Whoopie Pies for donating the great pizza and dessert.

We had 36 people attend and a wide variety of questions were an-swered and updates were given on area Police & Fire service, the new

park, the new bridge, the Gandy Overpass delay, stormwater drain-age improvements, canal water quality concerns, and a list of some of our streets that need repaving was made.

We can’t be everywhere in Riv-iera Bay, so please contact us or the Mayor’s Action Line about your concern.

Rio Vista Park UpdateThe City of St. Petersburg has awarded a contract in the

amount of $817,800 to LEMA Construction and Developers, Inc., a St. Petersburg Company for the Rio Vista Park proj-ect. A pre-construction meeting will be held in September. A ground-breaking will occur in approximately 30 days. Con-struction is scheduled to commence in October. The comple-tion of the park is slated for March/April of 2014.

Gandy Boulevard UpdateThe Gandy Project to improve east/west traffic flow from

east of 4th Street to west of Dr. MLK, Jr. Street North is mov-ing forward. The FOOT will be entering into a design /build contract to construct a new 4-6 lane controlled access facil-ity, grade separated interchanges, frontage roads and drain-age work. Essentially, bridge type overpasses will be installed at 4th Street, Dr. MLK, Jr. Street North, and/or the Frontage Road extension. The $83 million project will seek out public input this fall and expect to be under construction within 12 to 15 months thereafter. The funding for this project is from a surplus Federal and T.R.I.P. sources.

83rd Avenue/San Martin BridgeRecently, Pinellas County Commissioner Karen Seel,

Council Member Doreen DiPolito, City of Clearwater, and I had a phone confer-ence with Undersecretary of Transporta-tion, Polly Trottenberg with the objective of obtaining a Tiger Grant of approxi-mately $22 million for the completion of the 75 mile trail loop, which specifically included the replacement of the San Martin Bridge. If we are able to obtain this funding, this project may be accomplished sooner than currently planned.

Dates to RememberIf you have any ideas, interest or concerns regarding the

vision for our city, please come out to one of the Public Hear-ings below:

• FY 14 Budget Public Hearing- September 12 at 6:00 pm, City Hall, 175 - 5th Street North.

Tampa Bay under the umbrella of CareFest USA, the annual week of compassion-related activities culminates with a day of service that gives back to the community, benefitting individual homeown-ers, schools and non-profit orga-nizations.

CareFest activities are part of St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster’s I.C.A.N. initiative (Involved Citi-zens Active in Neighborhoods), to help support effective, efficient volunteer efforts throughout the city and throughout the year.

On September 28, CareFest St. Pete 2013 starts and ends at Lake Vista Park with check-in and light morning refreshments at 7:30 a.m., followed by projects conducted from 8 a.m. to noon. The event wraps up with CareFest organizers and the mayor presenting certificates to all volunteer groups.

Last September, more than 70 projects were com-pleted thanks to more than 1,249 volunteers and 68 groups who participated in CareFest St. Pete 2012 rep-resenting the religious, business and collegiate com-munities and service agencies.

It’s time once again to search for treasures and/or trade your unused stuff taking up your space for

somebody else’s unused stuff that takes up even more of your space. Our Fall Neighborhood Yard Sale event is scheduled for Fri through Sun, Oct 4th, 5th & 6th. Call Donna Hoover 579-3644 to be marked on the map before Tues, October 1st.

Some people have the best turnout on Fri during the day, and some people have the best turnout on Sun after church hours. The RBCA will advertise this sale in the Tampa Bay Times, St Pete Patch, the Flyer and our Face Book page for all 3 days, advertised times are 8am-2pm, but you are always welcome to set your own days and hours for that weekend. The RBCA will set up large Neighborhood Yard Sale signs at certain loca-tions along 4th St and 83rd Ave on Thurs night to direct traffic into the neighborhood based on the locations of those residents/members that have called to get marked on the 500+ maps that get handed out FREE at each sales location between 78th Ave and 98th Ave. We also have a few smaller signs that we can place inside the neighborhood if we have time, but all other signage di-recting people to your location is up to you. Also, be a good neighbor and remove any signs that you have posted when your sale is finished. We will pick-up all of the RBCA signs Sun evening.

Since we are advertising this event and printing the maps with RBCA funds, you must be a current RBCA member to get marked on the map. Membership is only

$10 per household and runs from Jan-Dec. A conve-nient membership form is printed on the back page of this newsletter for you to mail in with your $10 check, made out to the RBCA.

If we get rained on 2 out of the 3 days we will put the signs out for the following weekend, but we won’t have time for the advertising. Happy Un-Cluttering to everybody!!!

One of the main ten-ants of Scouting is

good citizenship and ser-vice to others. Millions of cans of food are col-lected by our Scouting movement every year. This year will be no dif-ferent. The need for food in our community is more important that every before. Many area food banks are stretched to their limits by an in-creased demand for food coupled with lessening donations. This is our chance to really help our community and show our neighbors how great a program Scouting is to

SCOUTING FOR FOOD DRIVE - Sat, Nov 9th

our youth. Our Scouts are more than willing to step up and help their neighbors in need.

The Annual Scouting for Food begins on Sat, Nov 2nd with the bag distribution. Scouts from Troop 263 will leave plastic bags on front doors or porches. Col-lection day will be Sat, Nov 9th. Place the bag on your porch by 9AM with canned goods/dry goods and the scouts from Troop 263 will pick them up.

Last year, in partnership with your Neighborhood As-sociation, the scouts from Troop 263 collected a truck load of food.

The need for food is growing everyday within our communities. The Boy Scouts of America is ready, willing, and able to step up and build our communi-ty. Be part of the difference, make the effort, and help those in need.

A fool and his money can throw one heck of a party.
