In 2009, the Somali Bantu Association of America (SBAOA)was founded in the hope of
providing Somali Bantu refugees with the opportunity find happiness, community, and
prosperityintheirnewhomecountry.
Now,eightyearslater,theSBAOA’smissionhasgrownandexpanded.Wearenolongeran
organizationthatonlyservestheSomaliBantucommunity.Today,weadvocateonbehalf
of the Somali Bantu, and other similarly disadvantaged refugees, for access to resources
thatwillallowthemtomakeasuccessfulcultural,economic,andsocialtransitiontolifein
the United States.We also provide services to assist families in becoming economically
stable,civicallyengagedmembersofthecommunityofSanDiego,California.
Weareproudtoreportthatthroughourprograms,wehaveservedthousandsofrefugee
and immigrant families, helping them to find their feet and thrive, regardless of the
adversitiesthattheyhadtoovercome.
OnSeptember16thofthisyear,theSBAOAwillholdour3ndAnnualRAJA=HOPEevent.RAJAisaculturalcelebrationfeaturingmusic,dance,cuisine,andstoriesfromtheSomaliBantuyouthofSanDiego.ThiseventwillprovideauniqueopportunityforSanDiegansto
learnabouttheirBantuneighbors-helpingtopromoteawarenessandfortifycommunity
bondsthatweshare,aswellasbuildacommonunderstandingacrosscultures.
TheSBAOAistrulyexcitedtohostthisevent,andallowourcommunity’syouthtosharethe
beauty andvibrancyof theSomaliBantu culturewith thewholeofCityHeights andSan
Diego.Weaskforyourhelpinmakingthiseventpossiblebyactingasasponsor.
