GOD’S MERCY Today’s reading from the second book of Chronicles contains a sort of “mini-history” of Israel. It highlights God’s mercies in choosing Cyrus the Persian to be an instrument of deliverance when the people were in captivity in Babylon. Despite their sinfulness and the deserved punishment they were undergoing, God’s mercy was lavished on the people in the form of a miraculous act of liberation. The Letter to the Ephesians, in much more theological terms, gives a similar account of a God “who brought us to life with Christ—by grace you have been saved.” The au-thor stresses that it was when we were “dead in our trans-gressions” that God saved us, an act of pure grace. He em-phasizes that it is not our own efforts that freed us from sin (“this is not from you”); rather, “it is the gift of God.” This, of course, is the heart of the entire Pauline corpus, that sal-vation comes to us by faith in God’s mercy, revealed in the death of Jesus. This Sunday, the third Sunday of Lent, RCIA Candi-dates and Elect will participate in the First Scrutiny; it revolves around the story of Jesus meeting the Samari-tan woman at the well. A Scrutiny is an opportunity pre-sented to those seeking full membership in the Church to deepen their understanding of themselves and their rela-tionship with Jesus. This Scrutiny focuses specifically on one’s sinfulness and weakness in their life, prior to knowing Jesus. All are called to be mindful of their sin and failures during Lent. This is an opportunity for the entire Church to embrace the healing and strengthening power of our Lord. Let us pray for successful conversion of our Candidates and Elect and for ourselves to grow closer in relationship to God.

LENT SCHEDULE

THE YEAR OF ST. JOSEPH

Been Away for Awhile? No matter how long you have been away, and no matter what the reason, we invite you to consider renewing your relationship with Jesus and the Church.

Please call 215-945-0215 or [email protected].

STEWARDSHIP “You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of

anything…” - EXODUS 20:4 How many “gods” do you put before God? “Idols” do not always take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and feel. Those are easy to recognize. Many times they take the form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot like pride, power, ego, time, comfort or health. Pray for God’s help to prune our vices and to grow in virtue.

Sunday, February 21, 2021 (34th Weekend 75% Capacity Permitted in Church) Collection $11,573.35 Envelopes 235 E-Giving $3,689.00 Electronic 138 Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 $15,262.35 (-4%) Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 $15,908.57

Please accept our Sincerest Gratitude for your ongoing support of Queen.

May God Bless You and Keep you Safe.

Queen of the Universe will be participating in the an-nual Rice Bowl collection. Rice Bowls are available at all church entrances.

The season of Lent gives us a wonderful opportunity to re-flect and make room in our hearts to welcome the stranger. Through our prayer, we encounter Jesus, who is present in the face of every member of our human family. When we fast, we encounter the obstacles that stop us from fully loving God and our neighbor. When we give alms, we share what we have with others.

Fridays: March 12, 19, and 26, 2021, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Event Series: A Vincentian Approach to the Virtues of

St. Joseph (Virtual) Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has dedicated 2021 to cele-brate the 150th anniversary of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. While little is known about this saint, his virtuous actions speak volumes as the ideal “provider and protector.” To celebrate the occasion, join us every Friday in March as the Shrine’s Vincentian priests delve into the life and personhood of St. Joseph in an intriguing series: “A Vincentian Approach to the Virtues of St. Joseph.” Sponsored by: Miraculous Medal Shrine, Philadelphia To learn more: For speakers, talk topics and registra-tion, visit the website: https://miraculousmedal.org/events/stjoe2021/ Father John has recommended the book. Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father by Father Donald Calloway. The book is offered in English, Spanish, and in e-book and audiobook formats.

Year of Saint Joseph

The entire Archdiocese of Philadelphia is encouraged to spend this year growing closer to St. Joseph by honoring him, imitating his virtues and asking for his intercession. To find local events, prayers and faith study resources to celebrate the Year of St. Joseph, visit archphila.org/joseph.

“Devotion to St. Joseph is one of the choicest graces that God can give to a soul, for it is tantamount to revealing the entire treasury of our Lord’s graces. When God wishes to raise a soul to greater heights, he unites it to St. Joseph by giving it a strong love for the good saint.” St. Peter Julian Eymard

We have commented a number of times about the program Father John Zagarella, the Prior at Daylesford Abbey in Paoli, has been presenting twice a month since June of 2020. If you have never checked it out, I highly recommend it. Father Zagarella takes popular songs, by well-known sing-ers and explains how the words tie in with

Scripture. He ends each session with the song playing with the words on the screen. It is totally amazing what he does. Most of us have probably listened to these songs but have not really captured the words. Enter “Rock the Word 153, Sea-son 2, Episode 2” in your browser to access his latest session “Dance With My Father” by Luther Vandross. Check it out. The National Catholic Women’s Conference – “My Peace I Give to You” will be held March 12-14. To learn more and to register go to https://go.virtualcatholicconference.com/NCWC2021 There is still time this Lent to deepen your relationship with Christ with Father Ken Geraci, CPM and his presentation of The Life of Christ. The series began Ash Wednesday and runs daily through Palm Sunday and can be accessed at https://www.goodcatholic.com/product/the-life-of-christ/. Journey Through Scripture -PAROUSIA: THE BIBLE AND THE MASS is the latest Journey Through Scripture study, from the St. Paul Center. This program began on Ash Wednesday. Join host Scott Hahn to uncover how and why all of God’s action, in creation and redemption, is related to the Mass. To register enter “St Paul Center Parousia Regis-tration” in your browser. There you will find directions to register. Even though you missed a little, there is still plenty of time to learn from this program. Words of Wisdom – “Man is led into the open realm in which he can love by the love he believes in because he has understood its sign. If the Prodigal Son had not already believed in his father's love, he would have never set out on his homeward Journey–even though the love that re-ceived him back was beyond his dreams.” – Hans Urs Von Balthasar
