We continue to see our students positively re-connecting with their classmates and re-engaging with learning, which is wonderful. We are all closely monitoring the changes to restrictions and protocols as they impact our school and our community. As you may have noticed, although masks are not mandatory everywhere in the community, they are still required for all school staff and visitors. We continue to be very vigilant about student health as the COVID protocols dictate. Thank you to our families for your support in this area and for supplying medical certificates & COVID test results where required. This helps us all stay healthy and safe. I would like to confirm to you that 100% of our staff onsite each day are fully vaccinated and some have even had their booster! Kinder 2022 Thank you to the Kinder O team who have done a lot of work to prepare videos and welcome packs for our incoming Kinders for 2022. We have over 60 students enrolled and anticipate we will have four classes for next year as the cap in government schools is 20 students/class for Kindergarten. If you have a neighbour who is intending to enrol a child for next year and hasn't done so yet, please encourage them to contact the school as soon as possible so they are included in our Kinder O program. On Friday in Wk.9 we look forward to taking our new Kinders and an accompanying vaccinated adult on a short tour of our school. End of Year Presentation Assemblies These assemblies will be very similar to 2020 where each stage had a morning celebration of learning. The current restrictions don't allow for family members to come onsite for these, however, if the restrictions change before these dates we will let you know. Vaccination Requirements All visitors onsite are required to show proof of full vaccination. In the hope that we will have opportunities for families to share in events onsite we are beginning a Vaccination Register using our school online enrolment information of parents/carers. If you would like to be included on this potential school visitor register, you can see me at the Holdsworth St gate most mornings or contact Mrs Maxwell in the office. This information will be kept confidential.

Community Messages

Pink Day

Thank you to our students and families for your support for this event. Our wonderful

staff donated all the ice-cream and creaming soda and wore ‘pink’ and Foodbank NSW

donated the cups! Our Year 5 & 6 students had a 2nd opportunity for an ice-cream spider

last Friday and Year 3 & 4 will have the same opportunity for this Friday for a $1 or $2

donation. So far we have raised $1527.95 for this organisation that has supported so

many families.

Change of afternoon exit gate

Mrs York witnessed the conditions at Gate 2 yesterday as our Stage 1 and Stage 3 students exited on Matthew

Street. As a result, we will change the exit gate for these years to Gate 3 on Fowler Road where there is not

only more parking but we will be able to exit the students from the gates with a crossing to support a safe exit

of an afternoon.

Library News

This year Merrylands Public School was selected to be part of the wonderful Dymocks Library Regeneration Program that is sponsored by Dymocks Children’s Charities. We were thrilled to be invited to select $5000 worth of books for our school library. We used this opportunity to create a new section in our library- an already very popular book spinner with early chapter books perfect for students who are ready to start to read longer texts. We also selected a selection of indigenous texts by indigenous authors to add to this important collection in our library. A huge thank you to Dymocks Children’s Charities for this fantastic opportunity.

Did you know about the First Lap Government assistance?

https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/firstlap

How to help keep our students safe?

First Lap | NSW Government

First Lap. The First Lap voucher program aims to make water safety education more accessible for NSW

families, providing $100 vouchers for parents, guardians and carers of children aged 3-6 years to contribute to

the cost of learn to swim classes.

If your child is sick, it is very important that you please keep

them at home to rest and recover. This will help us care for

each other at Merrylands Public School.
