Assistant Principal’s Communication Dear Parents and Carers As Salaamu Alaikum Wr.,Wb., We are all experiencing the profound effects the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is having on every aspect of our lives. Our thoughts are with those across Queensland and Australia who have a loved one with the virus and those families whose livelihoods have been dramatically impacted by this global health crisis. ICB is open only for vulnerable students and children of essential workers from the beginning of Term 2. The rest of the student population are to learn at home for the first five weeks of the term. The move to a home-based online learning model started on Monday April 20 and will continue until at least Friday May 22, 2020 when it would be reviewed by the government. Online Learning Following the Premier’s announcement on Monday, 13 th April, ICB has been working very hard to prepare online learning resources for students who will be staying at home. What we have tried to achieve is a system that offers an excellent alternative pathway for students and families to learn throughout this period of isolation and social distancing necessary for combating COVID-19. Virtual learning, particularly using the platforms of See-Saw and Teams, will allow all our students to connect, collaborate, interact, learn and create. These platforms are safe and only authorised users will have access. You can help your children at home by: Following the help guides on our websites to understand the platforms the students are using. Being cybersafe. Keep checking in on what your children are learning and stay in the same room with your children while they are using their devices. It is important we recognise that your main job as a parent is to be the parent, not an educator. The current climate prohibits teachers from doing their job face to face, but hopefully the development of this online resource, means that the education, its philosophy and tailoring towards the needs of each child is still done by the teachers and parents can assist with maintaining a routine and look after their wellbeing so that our students don’t miss out on their essential learning. Thank you to our whole learning community for all of your wonderful support at this time. Sincere thanks to our thoroughly amazing, hardworking and devoted staff, who have enthusiastically agreed to the changes. This is because they care about your children, and they understand the importance of education and our need to keep everyone safe.
