A treat is given for Monthly Perfect Attendance from the administration and yearlong perfect attendance is recognized at our end of year program. We also recognize quarterly perfect attendance.

YOUR NEW AGENDA

All students are given one complimentary student agenda as a management tool to use for the school year.  All students are expected to carry their agendas at all times while in the building.  Student passes to the rest room and transition through the hall will be noted in the student agenda.  The student agenda will be a very useful tool to our students this year.  Lost agendas can be replaced at the cost of $3.00.

ACADEMIC TEAMS

Students are assigned to an academic team. Each team consists of a Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies Teacher. As scheduling permits, students will have all their classes within the team; however, students may go to another team for classes in order to meet the academic needs of the student.

Teachers in the team work collaboratively to help each student achieve success both academically and socially. Specialists are available for students who require additional support.

LOCKERS

Student lockers are located outside the student classrooms and in the PE locker rooms. Students are not to share their locker combinations or lockers with other students. They are also discouraged from bringing valuable items and excess money to school. The school is not responsible for the loss of personal items.

CURRICULUM

6th Grade - Language Arts, Math 6th, Math 6/7, Earth Science, and Social Studies

Gifted Program – Advanced Learning ProgramThe middle school Advanced Learning Program is designed to meet the needs of academically gifted students and extend competencies in the areas of cognitive skills, research and reference skills, communication skills and meta-cognitive skills beyond the experience of the regular classroom.

The curriculum for the Advanced Learning Program meets Cobb County performance standards while providing a differentiated curriculum based on the needs of the students. Students are served daily in a content-based Language Arts, Social Studies, and/or Science program with a teacher certified in the Advanced Learning Program. The procedures for identifying and placing students in the gifted program are governed by the Georgia State Department of Education.

Transfer Students - A student already participating in a gifted program in Georgia will most likely be transferred into the Cobb County program. However, the student's records and test data will be reviewed by the eligibility committee before a final placement decision is made. Students who transfer from out-of-state must meet Georgia requirements for placement in the Cobb County program. Test data from a previous school will be considered if the test results are less than two years old and if they meet the Georgia eligibility criteria. Referrals for transfer students are available from the Advanced Learning program teacher.

HOMEWORK

The faculty and administration believe that homework is vital to helping students develop good study habits so they are ready to grow as their cognitive capacities mature. It can help students recognize that learning can occur at home as well as at school to help prepare for standardized testing. Homework can foster independent learning and responsible character traits. It can also give parents an opportunity to see what is going on at school and let them express positive attitudes toward achievement.

At the end of the twelve-week grading period or semester, the report card becomes part of the student's permanent record.

In addition to progress reports and report cards, parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers by e-mail, student agendas, and phone calls. Parents are also encouraged to check teacher blogs and register for Parent View for knowledge of class assignments and/or grades.

SCHOOL WIDE BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT PLAN

THE FALCON FIVE

Lindley 6th Grade Academy’s Positive Behavior Program

Lindley 6th Grade Academy has an exciting rewards program. This program offers great incentives for good behavior and promotes positive character building skills that will help your child have a successful year at Lindley 6th Grade Academy. All Lindley Sixth Grade Academy Falcons are Respectful, Responsible, Present, Positive and Scholars. We want to show our Falcon Pride in everything we do! Here is how the program works:

A) Teaching Appropriate Behavior

Through PBIS, students are taught school-wide expectations and have opportunities to practice them. Staff members teach what behaviors are expected in the hallways, cafeteria, bathroom, classroom, bus, before school, after school, and at assemblies. B) Acknowledgment/ Reinforcement System

C) Home Support

Parents, we cannot do this alone so we are soliciting your support to help review the expectations with your students on a regular basis at home. When you see your student excel in an area at home please nominate your student for a Monday Morning Recognition Form which can be obtained from the website and turn it into the front office.

THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES FOR MISBEHAVIOR: (Parents are contacted with each infraction issue.)

If the book is deemed to have major damage, the fine is 100% of the replacement cost.Minor damages include pen and pencil markings and/or folded or torn pages. Fines for minor damage(s) will be 50% of the replacement cost.If the CCSD sticker is removed, the student will be responsible for 100% of the cost of the textbook.

Parents are asked to inform the school of any medication changes.

Over-the-counter medications may be given for up to 10 consecutive days with a completed “Over-the-Counter Medication Permission Form”. A doctor’s note is required for over-the-counter medication that is given for more than 10 consecutive days. The school will not supply over-the-counter medications.
