Introduction Options and upgrade

1.3 Options and upgrade

Second processor

The system board can be upgraded with a second processor. Only processors of the same type may be used on the system board. The second processor must have the same clock frequency and the same cache as the first processor.

Upgrading of the main memory

2x6 slots for main memory FBD PC2-4200 or FBD PC2-5300 fully buffered DIMM memory modules with 512 MB, 1 Gbyte, 2 Gbyte and 4 Gbyte (single rank).

Memory modules must always be incorporated in pairs.

The organization in six memory banks, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 with 2 memory modules each, permits rapid memory access with four-way interleaving.

SAS RAID controller

The SAS RAID controller can be installed for operating internal hard disks. RAID levels 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, 6 and RAID 60 are supported..

SAS IME controller

The SAS-IME controller with Integrated Mirroring Enhanced functionality can be installed for operating internal hard disks. Integrated Mirroring Enhanced also provides RAID 0, 1, 1E functionality for configuring the internal hard disks.

Additional accessible drives

A number of mounting locations are available:

– one bay for a 3.5-inch slimline 1.44 MB floppy disk drive (optional) one LocalView module (optional) or a CSS-LED module (optional)

– one bay for a slimline optical drive (optional)

I The accessible drives integrated in these bays cannot be replaced during operation.

In a 6x3,5 or a 6x2,5 HDD configuration, a USB magnetic tape drive or an RDX drive can be installed in the left drive cage as an option. As a result, two bays are occupied in the drive cage.

I – In a 6x3,5 HDD configuration these bays are then no longer available for HDD modules.

– The magnetic tape drive or the RDX drive cannot be replaced during operation.

LocalView module (alphanumeric system display)

The LocalView module provides you with the option of displaying system infor-mation and hardware system faults alphanumerically. This is an intelligent module with a micro-controller and its own memory, which functions indepen-dently of the server system.

The LocalView module consists of an LCD display panel and a toggle switch, both accommodated in a suitable mount. The mechanical mechanism used allows the LCD display panel to be pulled out and open. Further information on operating the display modes are provided in the documentation on the LocalView module.

Customer Self Service (CSS)

The Fujitsu Siemens Computers Customer Self Service (CSS) concept enables you to identify and replace the affected component yourself in the case of certain error scenarios.

In the CSS concept, you can replace the following components yourself in the event of an error:

– Hot-plug hard disk drives– Hot-plug power supply units– Hot-plug fans– Memory modules– Expansion cards

For information on replacing these components, see chapter „Hot-plug compo-nents of the operating manual or the Options Guide for your Primergy RX300 S4 on the ServerBooks DVD.

CSS indicators on the control panel and on the back of the PRIMERGY server provide you with information if a CSS event arises (for more information on the behavior of these indicators, see operating manual and the "Customer Self Service (CSS)" manual on the ServerBooks DVD). You can also fit your server with a CSS Module which enables you to identify the type of component affected by the error directly on the server (for more infor-mation, see the "Customer Self Service (CSS)" manual on the
