COMPANY PROFILE

Usha Martin Ltd was started in 1961 in Ranchi,

as a wire rope manufacturing company.

Now it is India's largest & world’s second

largest steel wire rope manufacturer.

MD of UML is Mr. Rajiv Jhawar.

Chairman of UML is Mr. Prasant Jhawar.

Total 1900 employees are working in UML,

in which 1500 are workers, 82 are staff and

318 are officers.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

To know how many workers are aware about labour welfare facilities.

To study the welfare facilities provided to the workers by the company.

To study the grievance of workers regarding welfare facilities.

To know the level of satisfaction of workers toward welfare facilities.

LABOUR WELFARE

“every organization hears what employees say, good organization listen to what employees have to say but organization with employees welfare scheme listen what employees don’t say”

Labour welfare is a comprehensive term including various services, benefits, facilities which is provided over and above the wages to the workers by employers.

It is provided by the government, trade union & non government agencies in addition to the employers.

FINDING

About 70% of the works are aware about labour welfare facility provided by the company.

Company provide all the basic facilities like uniform, medical, safe drinking water, good working environment, transportation, canteen, children education etc.

56% of workers are not satisfied with the scheme of getting Rs 1,00,000 to the nominees, after death of the worker while working in the company.

Almost all the workers are getting safety gadget like gloves, shoes, glasses, helmet, uniform, mask and eardrum.

36% of workers have grievance related to working condition, 53% have grievance in allowances, 29% have in canteen and 51% have grievance related to holiday.

70% of workers said that welfare facilities which are provided to them play as motivational factor.

29% of workers are satisfied with the welfare facilities provided to them while 53% are partly satisfied and 17% are not satisfied.

There is positive correlation between awareness about labour welfare and motivational factors.

LIMITATION

• Sometime some of the workers refuse to corporate.

• The working schedule of the workers often contradicted with the survey requirement.

• The survey was time consuming due to the lack of knowledge of workers about welfare facilities.

SUGGESTION

As per the factory act 1948, there should be a rest room with adequate lighting facility, proper ventilation and sitting arrangement should be there in rest room.

To increase the awareness about welfare facilities, proper training should be given to all the workers.

Allowances for education & housing should increase.

Recreational activities like sports & cultural activities should re-start.

Some new book should be introduce in library so that workers can update their knowledge, as well as proper lighting and sitting arrangement should be there in library.

CONT….

Housing facility should be provided to each and every worker.

On the death of any workers, while working Rs 1,00,000 is given to the nominees; it should be increase according to economic scenario, where common people are affected by inflation.

Some more facilities should be introduced like interest free loan for workers to purchase household goods.

Company should try to open holiday homes in Nainital, Darjeeling etc where workers can stay with their family at reasonable rates .

The interaction between workers & management should improve.

More Holiday should be given to the workers.
