    VisaA visa is a permit required rom persons wishing to enter Swe-den or a temporary visit or when passing through in transit. InSweden, entry visas ollow the rules set orth by the Schengenagreement.

    I you are not a citizen o a Schengen country, you may need avisa to enter the Schengen zone. Since rules vary rom countryto country in Europe, please obtain relevant inormation romthe Swedish Embassy or Consulate in your home country beoregoing to Sweden. Be aware that the application process maytake up to two months.

    Residence Permit and Right o Residencendc cusCitizens o the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland,Norway) who are going to stay up to one year in Sweden donot need to register or right o residence. I you intend to stay

    longer than one year you should contact authorities in yourhome country and the Swedish ax Agency to inorm aboutyour immigration to Sweden.

    eU eea cusCitizens o EU or EEA countries must apply or Right oResidence within three months rom the entry into Sweden.Application orms are available on the Swedish Migration Boardwebsite. It is also possible to make the right o residence onlineon the Migration Board website. A certied copy o the Europe-an Health Insurance Card (or other proo o health insurance)is required along with copies o your Letter o Acceptance, valid

    identication and certicate o nancial support.n eU eea cusStudents who are not citizens o an EU or EEA country mustapply or a Residence Permit or study, at least 7-8 weeks beorethe intended date o departure to Sweden. You will need a validpassport, a Letter o Acceptance, certication o nancial sup-port and health insurance coverage. Apply and request inor-mation via the Swedish Embassy or Consulate in your homecountry.

    By air Cphg ap CPH/KsupCopenhagen Airport, CPH, at Kastrup in Denmark, is theclosest large international airport to Lund.

    Malm and Lund can be conveniently reached by train rom

    Copenhagen Airport. Te trip rom Copenhagen Airport CPH/Kastrup to Malm Central Station will take approximately 20minutes and 35 minutes to Lund. ickets can be purchased allthe way through to Lund or app. SEK 135, but you may haveto change train in Malm. Bring cash or the vending machine.Please note that you have to buy the ticket beore you boardthe train. I you buy the ticket on the train you are charged anadditional 100 SEK.

    Landing on Kastrup airport means entering Denmark andpersons o some nationalities will need a Danish transit visa.Please remember to check with the Danish Embassy/Consulate

    in your home country i you need a transit visa to Denmark ori a Schengen visa is enough.

    Lcl ap ml mmX/SuupTe local airport Malm-Sturup, MMX, has requent domesticights mainly to and rom Stockholm, but also internationalights to and rom or example Warszawa in Poland and Buda-pest in Hungary.

    Tere is a bus service (Flygbussarna) rom Sturup to Lund.Te buses depart at least once an hour. Te bus stops in Lundcity centre and at the Central Railway Station. Te ticket costs

    79 SEK (ages 16-25) and 99 SEK or adults.Te taxi companies operating at the airport has agreed on aset price or journeys between the airport and Lund as well asother destinations. Te price to Lund by taxi should not costmore than SEK 500 anytime o day or night. Tis ee should be

    settled with the driver beorehand.

    By train mlIt takes approximately 15 min by local commuter trains (Pga-tg/resundstg) to travel rom Malm to Lund. Te trains de-part approximately 4 times per hour during weekdays, somewhatless requently in the evening and during weekends. ickets cost

    app. SEK 42 and are available rom the ticket machines in thestation building or on the platorm or local train departures.Tis procedure requires local currency (no larger than a SEK 100note.)

    Sckhl oslLund is located on the main railway rom Malm to Stockholmand Oslo. ravel time rom Stockholm is about 4 hours on theexpress train X2000 or 6-7 hours on Intercity trains.

    By carTere are car- and passenger erry connections to southern Swe-den rom Germany, with Scandlines and -Line, and rom Po-land with Polerries. Tere are also connections via Denmark romGermany and UK. o travel one way by car over the resundBridge rom Denmark costs approximately 275 DKK, 370 SEKor 38 EUR per car. Lund is conveniently reached rom the mainhighways E6 and E22.

    txMalm - Lund by taxi is app. 300 SEK or a group o 1 - 4 pas-sangers only small variations rom that should be accepted. Tetrip takes app. 20 minutes.

    Te Swedishtaxi market is ree and most companies have recom-mended prices or dened routes (such as Sturup-Lund). axis inSweden can be ordered in advance or ound at taxi stops usuallysituated just outside stations, harbours etc. Hailing them in thestreet sometimes works but it is not the normal routine. axis

    On Arrival DayStudent mentors will meet you at the Central Railway Stationin Lund (until 19.30hrs) and help you to our minivan shuttleservice which will take you to Arrival Day services. Arrival Dayis open rom 9hrs (9 am) to 20hrs (8 pm) in the AF-building,Sandgatan 2. Please note that the shuttle service is only availableon Arrival Day.

    All procedures concerning the International Desk, the Inter-national Housing Ofce and the course Introductory Swedish- SUSA will be managed at one location on Arrival Day. It is very

    important that you bring your Letter o Acceptance to ArrivalDay as you will need it during the day as well as or various otherprocedures throughout the semester.

    Chck dskAter you have let your luggage in the luggage room, you willbe guided to the check-in. You will receive a Welcome packagewhich contains useul inormation about Lund University andyour stay in Lund. I you have applied through the online appli-cation orm you will also receive a personal envelope containingyour enrolment orm and log in inormation to your studentaccount (StiL) at Lund University.

    iducy Swdsh SUSaTose o you who have registered or the course in the onlineapplication will nd inormation and the schedule in the Perso-nal envelope and Welcome Package handed to you at Check Induring Arrival Day.

    HusgPlease note that it is recommended that you have your accom-modation sorted out beore arriving in Lund. You are responsibleo nding your own housing.

    Te International Housing Ofce (IHO) will go through neces-sary inormation, including the housing contract, hand out keysto those students who received housing through the IHO. Dontorget to bring documentation o the advance payment you havemade to the IHO.

    Other services on Arrival Dayickets or the excursions, city tours as well as or the ofcialwelcome party are or sale during Arrival Day.

    As we welcome hundreds o international students on ArrivalDay, there may sometimes be long waiting times and queues. Weask or your understanding and patience. However, i you haveany questions, dont hesitate to ask the international mentors orLund University sta. Tey will be present all day and are happyto help you.

    When you have visited all the stations on Arrival Day, you will be

    given a lit by our minivan shuttle service to your new accom-modation.

    Arriving beore or ater Arrival DayPlease keep track o your application status on the website oInternational Housing Ofce (see link on page 6). I you havereceived accommodation through the International HousingOfce, the date when your accommodation will be available ispublished there.

    I you arrive in Lund later than 19.30 hrs on Arrival Day you willnot be able to reach us beore we close and will thereore need to

    organise alternative accommodation or the night. You can stay,or example, at a youth hostel in Lund or Malm. Te ouristOfce in Lund can help you during their ofce hours to book ahotel in Lund. You also nd a hotel booking service on the LundCity website. Make all these arrangements in advance, beoredeparting or Lund.

    I you are planning to come to Sweden on a later date, you mustinorm your coordinator and the International Housing Ofce (iyou have received accommodation rom the IHO) o your newarrival date. When you arrive you should visit the InternationalDesk to check in and the International Housing Ofce to getyour keys (i you have received accommodation rom the IHO).

    General Inormation MeetingTere are two chances to attend the General InormationMeeting; one in the early aternoon and one later. Sta rom theInternational Student Mobility Group and representatives romStudentlund, the Swedish police, IHO and StiL will be there toprovide you with useul inormation.

    Introductory Swedish - SUSATe course oers introductory studies in the Swedish languageand culture (3 ECS). Te course schedule will be provided in

    the Welcome Package handed out during Arrival Day. Pleasenote that there is no on-site application!

    Registration meeting and rst lecture:Date: August 17You are expected to prepare the rst part o the course at homebeore your departure or Sweden. You nd the material andreading instructions on links in the box below.

    Registration DayRegistration Day is the day to meet your coordinator or to visit

    an introduction meeting. Please note that some meetings areonly open or exchange students within aculty or departmentexchange agreements. Please check with your coordinator (theperson who signed your Letter o Acceptance) to nd out whatmeeting you need to go to. Exchange students on universitywide agreements visit the student mobility group in GamlaKirurgen to meet their coordinators.

    Other activities or international studentsth il m pgYou apply or the mentor programme online along with with yourapplication or courses, Swedish courses and accommodation. Iyou apply you will be contacted by your mentor group in July.Te mentor group consists o 3-4 Swedish students (your men-

    tors) and 15-25 international students.

Maybe you will tour the city, have dinner, go toone o the nations parties or something similar together in thegroup. You can always contact your mentors or any advice, so donot miss this opportunity to learn more about being a student inLund!     It has come to BoPoolens attention that some landlords demand alarge deposit to be paid beore any agreement is signed. Bopoolenrecommends that you only pay one month o rent in advance,which is standard in Sweden. Dont send any money i you arentsure that the apartment exists and that you will get access to it.Make sure that you get a receipt or all payments you make.

    When searching or housing on your own, please beware oraudsters. From time to time raudsters are contacting peopleregistered under Housing needed/bostad skes and put in ake adson housing available. Do not send any money through Westernunion to these persons.

    Sud rsdcsTe international students who arrange their accommodation th-rough the IHO will in some cases be placed in student residences(studentkorridor) together with either Swedish or internationalstudents or both. Living in a student residence is a unique way oliving, which provides both opportunities and challenges:

    - An important aspect o living in a student residencein Sweden is cleaning. Tere is usually a cleaning schedule orthe common rooms. Please remember to ull your obligation toclean the kitchen and residence!

    - Specic laundry rooms are available or common use in eachresidence area. You should book a time in advance to make surethe acilities are available. umble dryer and drying cabinet are

    also included in the equipment.

    - All garbage is sorted or recycling. At every recycling station youwill nd dierent containers or kitchen garbage, newspapers,carton boxes, coloured glass, uncoloured glass, metal, batteries andhard plastic. It is important to throw your garbage in the correctcontainer.

    Lund is a small university city with a limited amount o ac-commodation and many students are looking or housingat the same time. Thereore, we recommend that youhave your accommodation sorted out beore your arrival.We cannot guarantee housing to all students and ultima-tely it is your own responsibility to fnd housing.

    il Husg ocInternational Housing Ofce (IHO) administers a limited num-ber o student rooms or exchange and international mastersstudents at Lund University. Application or housing is made inthe online application where you also apply or SUSA, mentorprogramme etc. In order to be considered or a room you mustbe accepted by your coordinator at Lund University and youronline application must have been submitted beore the dead-line. I you have stated preerences in your application, IHOwill try to meet your request, but please be aware that there isno guarantee that they can oer housing according to your choi-ces. I IHO can oer a room they will inorm you o this via theollow you status-page. You will not be inormed by other me-ans i.e. email. I you receive housing you need to make a prepay-ment equal to one-months rent to keep your room reservation.Tis prepayment is not a deposit as it will go towards the priceo your housing contract. I the payment is not made on orbeore the designated deadline the reservation will be cancelled.All inormation about this will be posted on ollow your statuspage at the IHO website (see link below). Please be aware thatLund University does not guarantee housing to alla students andultimately it is your own responsibility to nd housing.

    During previous semesters demand or accommodation hasexceeded supply. Tus, it is a good idea to search or housing el-sewhere than only via the IHO. Contact the IHO i you nd ac-commodation elsewhere and have applied trough IHO as well.

    Te Housing Pool, Bopoolen, is an advertisement agency orhousing run by the Lund University Student Unions (LUS). Teservice is managed via their website (see link below) where youcan post ads or housing as well as search or housing ads. TeHousing Pool does not apply a queuing system and does notcharge any ees or their services.

    InsuranceHlh sucAll students in Sweden are currently covered by the personalinjury insurance (the general student insurance) that is ob-tained on behal o universities and colleges within the Stateinsurance system by the Central Student Grants Committee.

    All students that study at Lund University are thereore coveredor accidents occurring within the ramework o their studies(or example: during classes, while studying at a universitylibrary and when travelling rom dorm to class). Tis providesinternational students cover or certain medical expenses. It alsocontains a certain accident cover in the orm o a xed amountin conjunction with disability or death, as well as liability andlegal expenses cover. It applies twenty-our hours a day.

    Note that this insurance only applies in Sweden, so i you wantto travel outside o Sweden you will need additional insurancecoverage which you should get in your home country. Remem-ber to bring some sort o certicate o the insurance.

    I you are an EU/EEA citizen you must bring your EuropeanHealth Insurance Card. Tis document is a health insurance,which will guarantee you medical treatment on the same condi-tions as Swedish citizens. Contact your regional social insuranceofce or the European Health Insurance Card or other docu-ment that proves your insurance.

    Please note that regulations or medical care do not apply todental care. In most cases international students are not entitledto subsidized dental treatments, no matter i they are registeredas residents or not, and will have to pay the total cost o a treat-

    ment. It is a good idea to arrange or a dental check-up beoreleaving home.

    H d l sucLund University oers no insurance covering thets, burglery,re etc. It is your responsibility to keep a sufcient insuranceand arrange third-party-liability insurance. You need travelinsurance that covers your travel to and rom Sweden and thetime you spend in the country prior to registration, or ateryour courses have nished, and insurance to protect yourpersonal belongings. All students are strongly advised to havea complete insurance cover to avoid extreme costs that might

    occur. Careully consider which level o insurance you need.Read the inormation ound via the link in the inormation boxbelow and pay particular attention to the coverages restrictionsand exclusions. It is very important that you obtain comple-mentary insurance beore leaving or Sweden.

    FinancialsCucyTe Swedish currency is called krona (SEK) and re (100 re=1 krona). Bank notes are available in denominations o 20, 50,100, 500 and 1,000 kronor, coins in 1, 5 and 10 kronor. You needapproximately SEK 8,000 per month to cover your living expen-

    ses (housing included) in Sweden. Note that Euro is not used inSweden.

    opg bk ccuBeore departing your home country, please make sure that allnecessary arrangements are made to prevent cash-ow problemsrom occurring during your stay in Sweden. Order a credit card orconsider other means o payment. Most credit cards are acceptedin Sweden and AM:s, Automated teller machines, can be oundthroughout the cities and on the universitys main campuses. Ban-king in Sweden might be much easier with advice rom your ownhome bank. Check with them beore departure to Sweden to see i

    Weather & ClothingIt is winter in Sweden rom mid-November to the end oFebruary. Snow is expected in most parts o the country, but inthe southern parts there will probably be rain mixed with snow.Te temperature varies between -10 to +5 degrees Celsius.

    Spring arrives in the end o March and lasts throughout Apriland May. Te temperature will rise to app. 20 degrees Celsius.

    Te wonderul summer comes to Lund in June and stays untilmid September. Summer temperature lies app. between +17 -30 degrees Celsius.

    In the autumn, September - November, rain starts to all andthe temperature decreases to app. + 5 degrees but can go below0 degree Celsius.

    In December winter arrives again and snow might start to all.

    Since Skne, the very southern part o Sweden, is very at itis a good idea to bring windproo and also warm clothing toSweden.

    Telephoneopg lph ccuTere are several opportunities to open a telephone accountin Sweden. Tis is thecheapest opportunity, especially or long distance calls.

    Cll phsI you already have a GSM cell phone (requenzies 900 and1800), remember to bring it to Sweden. However to be able touse your cell phone together with a Swedish cash card your cellphone can not be restricted to be used only with the operator inyour home country. I you do not have a GSM cell phone youcan easily buy one while in Lund.

    ElectricityTe electricity in Sweden is 220 volts and 50 cycles/sec (Hz). AsBritish and American outlets dier rom Swedish, you may needto bring a transormer and/or adapter or your electrical applian-ces rom your home country.

    E-mail addressIt is important or us and your mentors to be able to get in touchwith you when you have arrived to Lund University, thereorewe recommend that you have a web-based e-mail address (orexample Gmail or Yahoo) when you come to Lund.

    All enrolled students will be provided with a Lund Universitye-mail account, called StiL (student in Lund), once they are re-gistered. You should use this e-mail address as soon as it has beenregistered. Te e-mail address inormation will be included inyour personal envelope.

    InternetAs a student you have access to internet via student computersand the wireless network all over the university by using your StiLdetails. Lund University is also connected to Eduroam.
