An encyclopedia contains information on people,
places and many topics.
A encyclopedia gives a broad overview of the subject.
How to use:
Look for the last name of a person
For a titled person, look under the name, not the title
In words of two or more parts the are not the names of
people, look under the first part.
For an abbreviation, look for the word as though it were
spelled in full.
A dictionary is a book that contains a list of words in alphabetical order.
You can use the dictionary for many things: Spelling of a word Meaning of a word Pronunciation of a word Syllables in a word Part(s) of speech
An almanac contains up-to-date facts, charts, maps, and tables.
An almanac is published every year.
A thesaurus is a book of synonyms (words with the same meanings.
A thesaurus may also include antonym. A thesaurus is arranged in alphabetical order A thesaurus can give you new choices for
words instead of using the same words over again.
An atlas is a bound collection of maps. Sometimes an atlas contains maps of an
entire country, sometimes the whole world or just maps for a particular state.
