for next year. If you do not plan on
returning to Robinson next year,
could you please let us know so that
we know how many spots we have
available to offer to those students
who applied for 7th and 8th grade
positions.
Found a library book
at home? Make
sure it is returned to
the library by May
10. Otherwise you will be charged
for the book. Overdues have been
handed out through language arts
classes. Students who owe library
fines or other school fees will not be
allowed to participate in the End of
Year Celebration on the last day of
school. Please remind your student
to return any library books that they
may have checked out and take care
of any financial obligations.
Summer homework and school
supply list will be included in the
students packets that they receive at
their award celebration. They are
also on our website under
documents.
Please make sure you are checking
Parent/Student Vue for the most up
to date grades. Thank you for your
support! Please contact us if you
have any questions or concerns.
8th Grade Promotion ceremony will
be held on Thursday, May 23, in the
Robinson Gym beginning promptly at
9:00 a.m. Students are
encouraged to dress nicely for this
event. Following the ceremony,
PTSO will host a reception on
Bleckley Field. Students are free to
leave with their parents/guardians
following the reception. Students
who remain at school will attend
their scheduled classes for the
remainder of the day.
We will be turning in textbooks on
Friday, May 17 and cleaning out
lockers on Tuesday, May 21.
Please make sure all textbooks are
returned on the 17th. If they are
not turned in, you will
be charged for the cost
of the book. Also, next
week might be a great
time to start cleaning
out the lockers. They
will have to carry all of
their items after we
clean out lockers on the
21st, and no backpacks
should be brought to
school.

Volunteers Needed
Have you heard of Volunteer Kansas? It’s a website
(www.volunteerkansas.org) for people who want to find
exciting and useful ways to engage in their community.
Students can browse opportunities to volunteer by loca-
tion or by their interests.
United Way has a website that lists
volunteer opportunities for teens. For
more information, visit http://
www.unitedwayplains.org/teen-
volunteers/ .
Turn in hours to your
CHARGE Teacher. Check
google classroom for the number
of hours you have turned in.

www.kshumane.org/how-to-help/volunteer.html
Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) YVC projects engage teams of 8-10 youth ages 11-18
volunteering their time and service to help local non-
profits and learn more about real issues in their com-
munities. YVC's summer programming is offered at a
subsidized rate of $49/week with full scholarships
availability to anyone demonstrating need. The youth
scholarship application is available after clicking

help your community, but don't know how? Volun-
teer at the Library this summer! You'll meet other
teens, help kids sign up for the Summer Reading
Program, and assist staff with important tasks. It's
a fun way to get experience that looks good on a

This week we will complete the unit over multipli-
cation and division of rational numbers. This
means that we will finish our last unit of the
year! It looks like the test will be either Friday
(May 6) or Monday (May 13), so help your child
prepare. For the final week students will not carry
their books. They will store them in Ms. Van
Horn’s room over the summer so that they are
ready for
This week we will continue our work with weather maps and
forecasting. Our other focus will be creating our Weather
Widgets. Students got the directions and rubric on Friday,
May 3 so please refer to it for the basic idea. The devices
will be created in class. Parent support with contributing
household recyclables is appreciated, but students cannot
take them home to work on them so send a camera if you
want to see your child’s genius. You do not need to buys
supplies for this, so please don’t let them convince you oth-
erwise.

our Pearson books. We will be discussing lan-
guage and literary methods used in this classic
play.
We will test over Chapter 14 (Islam) on Wednes-

project which covers what we have learned about
world religions.
6th hour has finished Nothing But the Truth, Avi’s
acclaimed documentary novel, and will do an ab-
breviated novel study of Catherine Called Birdy
during our last week. 8th hour will finish Catherine
Called Birdy next week. Both classes will work on
helping verbs during our last two weeks, and we
will be on vocabulary lesson 13. Congrats to the
28 Room 224 kids who participated in the 25
Books Campaign this year. Great reading!
This last full week of 6th grade Spanish is going
to be busy. The final project is due on Monday.
Those who chose not to do a project will take the
cumulative final exam that day. We will spend the
rest of the week with project presentations and
seeing the results of the Ch. 2A test that students
took last week. Thank you for helping to make
this such a wonderful school year!
Final projects are due on Monday, May 13. Any
student without a project to submit will be taking
the final exam on Monday in class. The remainder
of the week will be spent playing the games and
watching the presentations of the final projects.

erations with negative integers to finish out the year!

Company Project, which will provide a culmination of all

These last nine days of 7th grade Spanish are jam-packed
with hands-on activities to strengthen students' abilities to
communicate in Spanish. They will visit a "crime scene" and
make predictions about what happened, try out some new
technology that we may use next year and learn a new song
from a well-know Dominican recording artist.
Seventh graders will be studying human growth
and development next week.
We will come to the end of our journey through the
woods and find ourselves back in the city of order,
Athens. Students will begin work on their final pro-
jects for A Midsummer Night’s Dream and will be
presenting these the final week of school.

We will spend this week reviewing vocabulary and
grammar from the past two years. Students will
play some familiar games and pilot some new
technology as well.
On Monday, students will find out the details of their last project in
Kansas History. They will be working with self-selected partners to
complete a research and presentation. On Tuesday, the kids will
take the Kansas History Final. They can use their notebook, which
should contain all of their assignments from Kansas History, on
the test. Students must have their notebooks organized or they
will run out of time to complete the test.

tion and point-slope form of a linear equation.
We will continue through the Civil War this
week. We are working to the test on Monday, the
20th, assuming that our field trip does not get
rained out. If that happens, we will readjust our
schedule. I still have three 2018-19 eighth grade
PIB t-shirts, all size medium, if anyone would still
like to have a t-shirt for the memory and the field
trip.
Students will finish reading the novel El Viaje de
su Vida next week and take a quiz over the entire
book on Friday, May 17th. I can hardly believe
that this is my last full week with these wonderful
young people. They are completely prepared to
confidently take on Spanish 2 next year as fresh-
men in high school!
Eighth graders will be studying human growth and
development next week.
