PhD student in Experimental Nephrology

The position

The PhD student will investigate the effect of macrophages and some of their secreted factors

in the proliferation of Bowman's capsule parietal cells (PECS) in extracapillary proliferative

glomerulonephritis. The student will use in vivo and in vitro approaches as well as human

samples. The objective of the project is based in real translational results in order to design

new therapeutic strategies targeting PECs to reduce the severity of the lesion and improve its

prognosis.

Summary

Crescentic glomerulonephritis (GNEC) is the most severe form of renal injury with morphological manifestations of glomerular leading to the rapid deterioration of renal function (weeks). The infiltrating macrophages have been classically described as the potential source of the crescents. However, the parietal epithelial cells of the Bowman capsule (PECs) are currently accepted as the overwhelming predominant cell type in the crescents. Thus, macrophages participate in glomerular inflammation and PECS are the origin of the crescent, although the signalling pathways that activate its proliferation are still only partially understood. With this project, we will decipher signalling pathway of soluble factors derived from macrophages in the activation and proliferation of human PECs.

Se oferta una plaza en el laboratorio de Nefrología experimental de IDIBELL como becario pre-

doctoral.

Proyecto: Macrophage stimulating factor (M-CSF) como factor inductor de la proliferación de

células parietales de la cápsula de Bowman (PECS) en glomerulonefritis proliferativas

extracapilares.

El estudiante de doctorado investigará el efecto de los macrófagos y algunos de sus factores

secretados en la proliferación de las células parietales renales en la glomerulonefritis

proliferativa extracapilar (formación de medias lunas). El alumno utilizará enfoques in vivo e in

vitro, así como muestras humanas. El objetivo del proyecto se basa en obtener resultados

traslacionales reales con el fin de diseñar nuevas estrategias terapéuticas dirigidas a las PEC

para reducir la gravedad de la lesión y mejorar su pronóstico.
