Dear Friends,

I’m glad it is warming up now, as I cannot believe the winter we have had this year. The weather was way too extreme, even for me, a German kid who grew up used to the long winters.

At this point, I would love to mention our dedicated employees. I would especially like to thank those who have a long commute and braved the blizzard-like conditions to make it to work on time and ready to build our beautiful machinery.

During the infamous January 6th blizzard here in Bradley, I considered closing down for the first time in Peddinghaus history. However, at six o’clock in the morning, I drove to work to find all the sidewalks, entrances, and parking lots had been cleared and Peddinghaus was ready to go! Thanks to our great maintenance crew – for clearing the way!

NASCC

As always, the NASCC show was a huge success!! It was refreshing to see the large number of people who made it to Toronto from all corners of the United States. It reinforces the importance of all the time and preparation put in here at Bradley. I know it can be agreed that the City of Toronto, even when cold, was a beautiful site.

Like always, the AISC organization did a wonderful job running the seminars and letting all of us manufacturers and software companies show off our machinery. Of course, our newly introduced Multmaster for the Advantage 2 and the HSFDB-C with beveled head were both a huge success.

Networking Event

It turns out that I’m not as strong-willed as I once thought I was. This year, Peddinghaus’ traditional Wednesday night event was moved to Thursday by the AISC, so I thought it might be a good year to take a break from our annual event.

Now, I would love to mention Lyle Menke and Nick Hajewski who did a wonderful job saving the day when I changed my mind at the last second. I believe I decided on Monday that we would go ahead and enjoy a nice Thursday evening dinner with all of our customers.

In just three days’ time, those gentlemen organized an event for 200 of our closest customers. We had a delicious meal and entertainment from the Top Twins. These two ladies are Christchurch, New Zealand’s best comedians. Now, we all know why!

Last but not least, I would like to thank our employees for their continued efforts and devotion. We know that we are not always perfect, but I am happy to see that perfection remains our overall goal. There are many options out there, so thank you to all of you for helping to keep Peddinghaus customers happy.

Thanks Everyone

As you know, my schedule is pretty busy, and I may not get the opportunity to thank you personally for all the hard work and dedication that you bring to Peddinghaus every day. Whether you are in Andrews or Bradley, I just want to say “thank you” for a job well done.

I Never Knew! Peddinghaus Inside Sales Department

The Peddinghaus Inside Sales Team consists of Tim Douglas, Jesse Rodriguez, Chad Meents, Josh Thacker, Jesse Fox,

Alicia Halcomb, and Trenton Horn. Together they have over 45 years of

experience here at Peddinghaus. The Inside Sales Team is located in the

Peddinghaus customer service call center and work closely with Technical Support. They handle all requests for quotes and

order entry of spare parts and consumables for the Peddinghaus machines. In 2013, the

Inside Sales Team entered over 14,450 customer orders!

The spare parts department assists customers with all the different model of

machines that Peddinghaus has manufactured over the years. This includes

everything from the Manco and Fabriline divisions to PFP machines, hand tools,

saws and all the machines that have been manufactured in Bradley and South

Carolina. It is not unusual to receive a request from a customer with a 50-60 year old machine and be able to find the parts required and have in stock for immediate

shipment! The spare parts department is in the office from Sunday at 10pm until Friday at 6pm. On weekends and holidays an “on

call” system has been developed to provide support for our customers. Whether it is a domestic or international customer – the

spare parts department is here and ready to assist.

The consumable division began in 2007. It was developed to provide individual tools for

Peddinghaus machines to our customers. Consumable products consist of punches

and dies, carbide drills and inserts, Hypertherm cutting components, our very

own PeddiCat bandsaw blades, PeddiTwist drills, and PeddiCool eco friendly coolant. Since its establishment, consumable sales

have tripled, and they continue to grow every quarter. Alicia & Trent work with our

customers to insure they have the best tools for their job.

Did you know that Peddinghaus has its very own EBay store? So far, we have been able to sell Hydraulic Single End punch machines, belt sanders, hand machines,

and miscellaneous spare parts through the online store. It has really given us an

opportunity to reach new customers and sell some of our obsolete/rebuilt inventory. We are always looking for innovative ways to

promote Peddinghaus!

Mill Creek Bass Tournament by Andy Fritz

The 21st annual Peddinghaus Mill Creek Bass Tournament was held May 3rd, 2014. Mill Creek is an 800 acre impounded lake near the town of

Marshall, IL, and the tournament teams are compromised of PC employees and their

acquaintances. Fish were caught on topwater baits, crankbaits and plastic baits.

Lauren Bertrand, PC MS

This year there were 24 teams competing and below you will find the PC employee & former

employee results:

2nd Place: Tommy & T.J. Schultz (you might remember these former employees), 12.88 lbs

and Tommy “Big Bass” Schultz caught the largest fish of the Tournament at 6.87lbs which is an all time record that stood since 1996! The

record was 6.69lbs and held by yours truly.

4th Place: Paul Milk & Brad Janson, 9.10lbs

6th Place: Jake & Adam Konik (traveled from Ohio to fish & are sons of former employee Ed

Konik who is sadly missed!), 8.49lbs

7th Place: Greg Kubick & Travis Selby, 7.67lbs

9th Place Bill Trubach & Andy Fritz, 5.61lbs

13th Place Todd & Lauren Bertrand, 3.79lbs (great job for her first tournament!)

Me and my Moms

by Alex Hill

My mother is a huge Chicago Bulls fan so on

February 11th, 2014, I took her to her first Bull's game!

She was so happy and excited. My mother is the most loving person I know. She has taught

me the importance of family and how family should be. My joyful personality is a direct result

of watching the way she treated others while I was growing up. My dad passed away twenty

years ago, and ever since then I have been there to pick up every single piece! Love you

always mom...my BEST friend!!!

Caitlin Drzewiecki Masters

Two important things happened with my

daughter, Caitlin, this past week.

First, she finished her Master's program in Communications with an emphasis in Public

Relations and a Certificate in New Communications from Wayne State

University. She has been working on it for three years along with working with the

Sundance Institute in Park City , Utah. She is a strong proponent of the resurgence of Detroit and is working on Cintopia, a film festival that is connecting the City of Ann

Arbor and the City of Detroit with local and international films.

Second, She got engaged to be married this past weekend. The young man she is

marrying asked me for her hand which is something a person doesn't think about until

it happens. Linnette and I both enjoy his company and he has managed to survive us

so the planning begins!

Congratulations Caitlin!

Getting to Know Your Team Member

Andrews, SC

Meet Carol Swails

Purchasing Agent, PCSC

Carol has just celebrated her 1 year anniversary with Peddinghaus. She

started in May 2013.

Carol was interested in working for PCSC because of the great

opportunities and benefits provided in their area. Although her main job is purchasing agent, she also had the opportunity to help in the Stockroom

during inventory!

Carol and her husband Billy have 2 beautiful daughters, Mary Alice 7 and Melody 5. They share their home with the girls pets, a Leopard Gecko and a

Cane Corso puppy!

Carol says she enjoys reading, fishing and football...DA BEARS!

Thank you Carol for sharing a bit about yourself with your fellow employees!

Brian Corbett

Purchasing and Safety

Everyone in Bradley has had the opportunity to meet Brian! He started at PC in the Stockroom in 2006

after Virgil Dickson told him it would be a perfect fit!

Brian balances his days between Purchasing and Safety and is currently assisting Terry Chinn and our yellow belts on our Lean journey. One very special

project during Brian's employment was his involvement with our 2008 Oktoberfest. Brian was in

charge of coordinating bus parking and shuttle for guests and employees, along with assisting with

security and the firework show!

Brian and his wife Mendy have a beautiful daughter, Shelby, and believe it or not, he is even busier when he's not at work! Brian coaches Shelby in Softball

and Cross Country. He also plays Men's slow pitch softball, is a member of the Knights of Columbus,

enjoys bow hunting and camping and is involved in many volunteer opportunities in our community.

Something you might not know, Brian attended the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl Parade with his

grandmother! It was -32 degrees with the wind chill and he was NOT leaving!

"Every day you wake up is an opportunity to make a difference. I feel that people should always look for

ways to improve; physically, educationally, spiritually or any way that makes you a better person."

Thank you Brian for sharing with us!

From the Chef! by Marc Magiera

Here is an oatmeal sandwich cookie I like to make for Memorial Day. It's a great recipe to make the day before, but don't build the sandwich until that day!

Oatmeal Cream’wich

FOR THE COOKIE:

1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup dark brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

Grated zest of 1 lemon

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg, preferably pasture-raised

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/8 teaspoon grated nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

FOR THE FILLING:

2 tablespoons water

7 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 tablespoons heavy cream

5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Pinch of kosher salt

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

To make the cookies:

Combine butter, sugars, lemon zest, and vanilla in the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Mix on medium speed until all ingredients come together and are light and fluffy. Add the egg. Sift together the flour, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt, and add to the butter mixture in three parts, waiting until each is well mixed before adding the next. Add the oats last, mixing just until combined. Chill the dough in the freezer for 5 minutes.

Transfer the dough to a large surface covered with a layer of parchment paper. Top with another layer of parchment and gently roll the dough into a 1/4-inch-thick sheet. To prevent the cookies from sticking as you cut them, carefully remove the top layer of parchment and drizzle some flour over the sheet of dough. Replace the parchment, flip the dough, and release the parchment on the other side. Cut the dough into 2 1/2-inch round cookies and space about 1/2 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Gather any leftover scraps of dough and roll and cut as described above. Repeat until you have no dough left. Bake the cookies for 15 to 20 minutes, turning the pan 90 degrees halfway through baking, until golden brown in color but still soft in the center. Transfer the cookies to a cooling rack. Let cool completely before filling.

To make the filling:

Bring the water and 3 tablespoons of the sugar to a boil in a small heavy-bottom saucepan. Once a dark brown color is achieved and the sugar looks like caramel, remove from the heat and very carefully whisk in the cream. Allow to cool. In the mixer with the paddle attachment, combine the butter with the remaining 4 tablespoons sugar and mix until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add the salt and vanilla, and once they are incorporated, turn the mixer down to a low speed and add the cream cheese and the caramel. Mix until fully incorporated

Place half of the cookies with the top side (the most attractive) down. Using a piping bag or a spoon, evenly distribute the filling among the cookies, and close into sandwiches with the remaining cookies. Gently press down. Serve immediately or store the cookies in a cool place.

Focus on Safety!

Slips, trips & Falls by Gregg Jenkins

It’s probably happened to most of us. That momentary lapse of inattention or distracted by an activity that ends in a slip, trip or fall. It

can lead to a variety of regrettable events ranging from a simple bruised shin to an extremely serious injury. Slips, trips and

falls make up the majority of general industry accidents, which account for: 15 percent of all accidental deaths per year, the second-leading cause behind motor

vehicles; about 25 percent of all reported injury claims per fiscal year and more than 95 million lost work days per year – about

65 percent of all work days lost.

Most safety topics are centered around the production floor but this one includes the production floor and the office areas. To

create a safer working environment for you and your fellow workers, good

housekeeping is critical. Safety and housekeeping go hand-in-hand. If an

organization’s facilities are noticeably clean and well organized, it is a good indication

that its overall safety program is effective as well. Proper housekeeping is a routine. It is

an ongoing procedure that is simply done as a part of each worker’s daily performance. It’s ultimately up to each individual to stay

alert and pay attention but if we all implement good housekeeping practices we can help reduce the risk of slips, trips and

falls.

Thank you from Nutech Systems!!

Lyle,

I want to mention to you personally that I have toured hundreds of companies over the past 26 years.

Something that really struck me about Peddinghaus was how everyone that we met throughout our visit was "glowing". It was evident that your organization is working, people are happy and that the employees are proud of Peddinghaus.

I have never seen or felt this while visiting a business in the past.

What you are doing is amazing!

Sincerely,

John P. Manilla, CCP, CPA

Geek Speek by Shad Taylor

Check out the 3D Pen that can write in the air!

Here is the "geek" behind the pen:

Inside the pen it heats plastic to 150°C (300°F), which is then pushed out through the nib as a hot liquid at the touch of a button. The plastic used is a plant-based filament, although it can also use stronger

forms of plastic. When the liquid is exposed to air it solidifies into shapes. You can’t move too quickly

though, as the filament needs time to cool. Each rod of plastic that you feed in is about 4in (10 cm) long

and lasts for about two minutes of drawing in the air. After this, the pen needs to be refilled.

Wheel of Fortune follow up!

Walking Away From Wheel a Winner!

Wednesday May 7th family and friends gathered at Brickstone Restaurant & Brewery for a local

viewing party in honor of Lindy Casey, Marketing Communications Specialist. Her Wheel of

Fortune episode aired on ABC 7 with hometown support watching in anticipation of her ‘fortune.’

Lindy filmed the Wheel episode this past February at Sony Studios in California and has been anxiously awaiting her airtime to share her

moment in the spotlight with others.

Although Lindy did not walk away the overall winner, she won $7,200! With close to a million

participants who apply for Wheel of Fortune each year, Lindy is happy to have had the once-in-a-lifetime experience and hasn’t yet decided

on how she will spend her ‘big money.’ Her favorite part of being a contestant on the show? Besides meeting the legendary Pat Sajak and

Vanna White, she enjoyed the behind-the-scenes showbiz secrets!

The Three Wolves and the Tall Pig

Once upon a time there lived three wolves, their names were Jack, Tom and Ben. They lived in the

woods. They had no homes, so they decided to build their own houses. The first wolf built his house out of grass. The second wolf built his house out of mud. The third wolf built his house out of Peddinghaus steal. One day a very tall pig came along thru the

woods, and saw the three houses. He knocked on the first house door. The pig said, let me in let me in. He heard a voice that said, not from the hair on my taily

tail tail. Then I'll huff and puff and blow your house in. So he did and the house fell down. Then the tall pig

ran to the second house. He knocked on the door and said, little wolf little wolf let me come in. He heard a voice that said, not by the hair on my taily tail tail.

Then I'll huff and puff and blow your house down. So he did and the house was down. So then he went to the third house, knocked on the door and said , little wolf little wolf let me come in. He heard a voice that said, not by the hair of my taily tail tail. Then I'll huff

and puff and blow the house down. He huffed and he puffed and he didnt blow the house down. The three little wolves on the inside started laughing and said,

sorry mr pig this house is made out of the best steal in town, Peddinghaus steal. So the pig ran away and the

three wolves were able to play Xbox with no more interruptions from that tall pig again.
