from the Principal FEB 19 2014 Goal setting 3 way conferences This is an important opportunity to touch base at the start of the year for you, your child, and your child's teacher. I would like to thank you for making the effort to keep that connection between home and school strong and positive. Team Teaching One of the opportunities during this time is for you to have asked and heard a little more about our team teaching philosophy. The teachers have on hand a handout that answers some of the frequently asked questions. This is also available on our website (http:// myrossbush.ultranet.school.nz/ WebSpace/34/). It is important to realise that this is not a made up idea or just a repeat of the 1970's! Any school that is serious about providing a modern learning environment for their children, whether they are getting a new school or not, is looking at their teaching pedagogy (the method and practice of teaching and learning) and therefore its learning programme structure and the use of the physical space they have. Our development across our school of our learning spaces, the structure of our learning programmes and the closer collaboration of our teaching staff is a journey that we all have ownership in. Pedagogy and design working together creates the environment of a 'third' teacher. While a new school gets a design built for this century we have designed our teaching pedagogy to bring our design into the 21st century. Our team approach also gives us the opportunity to grasp the power of teacher collaboration, student to teacher feedback and also formative ('as you go') assessment methods; all highly ranked teaching approaches highlighted in John Hattie’s Research into effective teaching and learning strategies. Goal setting 3 way conferencesThis is an important opportunity to touch base at the start of the year for you, your child, and your child's teacher. I would like to thank you for making the effort to keep that connection between home and school strong and positive.

Team TeachingOne of the opportunities during this time is for you to have asked and heard a little more about our team teaching philosophy. The teachers have on hand a handout that answers some of the frequently asked questions. This is also available on our website (http://myrossbush.ultranet.school.nz/WebSpace/34/). Our development across our school of our learning spaces, the structure of our learning programmes and the closer collaboration of our teaching staff is a journey that we all have ownership in. Week 3 Term 1MATAI 9 (Mrs Polaschek & Mrs Lemin)We had a wonderful day at athletics on Friday. It was exciting to try all the skills we have been learning on the real athletics track.

"I liked doing the obstacle course" said Maebh and Charlee. "I had to put out my aiming arm at shot put" said Amelia M. "I got better at the hurdles" said Luke.

We welcome Matilda Stevens and Katie Black and their families to Matai this week. It's been great to meet with some of our parents at our goal setting meetings, and we are looking forward to a sharing time with all our new parents once their child is 6 weeks at school.Amy and Mel

MIRO 5 (Mrs Godby) & RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik)Here are Rawe's News and ViewsIt was great to see so many parents last Friday at our first school athletics day. We have the zone athletics at Surrey Park on Monday February 24th so let's hope for warmer weather. A big thank you to all the people who have sent along tissues to school it is very helpful. We are seeking parent help in both Rata and Miro so if you have already said you would be available or if you would like to help please come in and see either of us and let us know when you are free. Your help is greatly appreciated. You will have noticed that the homework books have gone home with spelling in the front of the book and the maths knowledge ladder at the back. For spelling we have circled all the words that need to be learned for that list level, however, only practise the words that have a 3 beside them this week, the others will be reviewed in the following weeks. The maths basic facts cards will be assessed each week.

You will be pleased to hear that Rata has won the award for the tidiest classroom last week, well done! Let's hope Miro can match them soon.Have a great weekEvelyn and Natalie

KOWHAI 2 (Mrs Kahukura) & RIMU 3 (Miss Burton) Wow, what another excellent week in Kawaka.

Thank you to all the parents for attending the goal setting interviews. These are a great way to set goals and targets for the children.

Action Stations and Work Shops are fully up and running.

Children have been set a task to make and create a movie about "showing persistence", these are coming along very nicely. Please feel free to pop in to see them. You may have seen some of our children along the road side around 9:30am. We are doing a statistical investigation to see what  the most common coloured car that passes Myross bush at a certain time of the day. So far Silver is winning.Kiri & Keri.

TOTARA 7 (Mrs Carr) & KAURI 8 (Mr Herring) News and Views for AkotoaAll the year 5 and 6's went to Oreti Beach today as part of the Surf Life Saving Education programme. We learnt lots about rips and how to identify them, how to get ourselves out of situations and what to do in emergencies. Beach safety is very important as in New Zealand we live so close to the ocean wherever we are. We learnt that it is important to swim between the flags and to swim with other people. Thank you so much to all the awesome parent help, it was a great day! fro
