And the second is like unto it, Thou

shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Matthew 22:39

In the Hebrew, the word “commandment” is not used regarding what we commonly refer to as the Ten Commandments. Instead the transla on properly is “the ten words” or “the ten declara ons.” As “words of God” they carry great weight for people of faith, and the fact that they are not “commandments” per se in the original text does not reduce their signifi‐cance or importance. H.O.S.T. Ques on: What was PIPC’s first name? Un l the 16th Century, the common tle for the Ten Commandments was “the Deca‐logue” (the Greek transla on of the Hebrew “the ten words” in the Septuagint). At the publica‐

on and prin ng of the Geneva Bible (the first mass produced English version of the Bible), a sub tle was printed at the top of the page that called this sec on in Exodus 20 “The Ten Com‐mandments” and that was the first historical occasion that can be documented calling this pas‐sage of scripture “the Ten Commandments.” The Decalogue or Ten Commandments are found in Exodus 20:1‐17 and Deuteronomy 5:6‐21. Different faiths and denomina ons that use the Ten Commandments divide and ar‐range them differently. Which version of the Ten Commandments do you use? Grace and peace, Mark

con nued

February 5 Communion and the beautiful anthem “All of These” by Craig Curry

February 12 J.A.M. kids will sing “If I Were a Butterfly”

Chancel Choir will sing, “Come, Ye Sinners”

February 19 “Speak, O Lord” a lovely arrangement by Mary McDonald

February 26 “Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God”

We are so proud of our Alleluia Ringers for their dedication! We attended the Handbell Festival in Charleston on February 3rd - 4th and spent hours learning new music and techniques with 200 oth-er ringers. We also teamed up with neighboring ringers from St. Paul’s Lutheran. Well known compos-er, Kevin McChesney, was the clinician. Tentative performance dates are March 19th, April 23rd, & June 11th to finish our season.

JAM Kids are planning to sing the delightful “If I Were a Butterfly” on February 12th.

We also plan to process and sing on Palm Sunday, April 9th, and Mother’s Day on May 14th.

Want to be involved in the music life of our church? Contact Lana at [email protected] or

(904) 434-6753. There’s a place for you! The Chancel Choir needs enough basses, tenors, altos, and sopranos to cover each other for every Sunday. No one expects you to sing a solo or be here every week. It is an amazing group and a joy to be a part of. H.O.S.T. Question 2: What year was the youth recommitment baptism service held in Pawleys Creek?
