In January the word was Invocation. In March it was Kyrie. This month it’s Glo- ria in Excelsis, which is Latin for “Glory to God in the Highest.” The Gloria is our great hymn of praise. Now that we are in the Easter season we have every reason to sing joyful praises to our risen Savior. We omitted praise words like “Gloria” and “Alleluia” during Lent in order to give due respect to Jesus’ sufferings for our sins. But now we pull out all the stops! We blast the trumpets! We glorify the Lord with full force. Christ is risen! Sin, death, and Satan have been defeated! Alleluia! Praise be to God! We sing several praise hymns at Park View Lutheran Church. Two of them are drawn from the words of the Christmas angels in Luke 2:14- “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (See Divine Service 3 and 4 in LSB). Each Sunday therefore becomes a little Christmas, minus the lights and the sawed-off tree. Another praise hymn that our congregation likes to sing is “This is the Feast.” (See Divine Service 1 in LSB). It too draws on the song of angels, this time the one sung in heaven in praise to God for His final victory (Rev. 5:12). The Easter theme is unmistakable. “Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God.” So, what does it mean to “glorify God” or to “give Him glory?” How can we poor sinners, in any way, give God anything? Certainly, God is perfectly glori- ous. He is radiant, brilliant, and magnificent in every way! Yet, God is most glo- rified when His people rejoice in His gifts. He is glorified when we hear His Word preached in church, when our sins are forgiven for Jesus’ sake, when we receive the Lord’s Supper, and when we trust in His promises. In other words, God is most glorified when He gets to give gifts to His children. Praise be to God! GLORIA IN EXCELSIS: GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST

In case you haven’t noticed, my newsletter articles this year have been about unusual words we use in worship, and how they apply to our daily lives. In January the word was Invocation. In March it was Kyrie. This month it’s Glo-ria in Excelsis, which is Latin for “Glory to God in the Highest.” The Gloria is our great hymn of praise. “Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God.”

So, what does it mean to “glorify God” or to “give Him glory?” How can we poor sinners, in any way, give God anything? Certainly, God is perfectly glori-ous. He is radiant, brilliant, and magnificent in every way! Yet, God is most glo-rified when His people rejoice in His gifts. He is glorified when we hear His Word preached in church, when our sins are forgiven for Jesus’ sake, when we receive the Lord’s Supper, and when we trust in His promises. In other words, God is most glorified when He gets to give gifts to His children. Praise be to God!

Special Informational Meeting

May 4

11:45 am

The Executive Board has called a special meeting to be held after the second service on Sun-day, May 4. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend. The purpose is for members to openly share thoughts or concerns about the possibility of hiring the services of a professional capi-tal campaign group. Since a congregational vote will be taken at our May 18th meeting, we felt that it would be good to give the members a chance to share opinions beforehand in an open forum. We hope you can attend!

Please keep these young adults in your prayers, that our risen Lord Jesus will guide them to the col-leges, military, or careers where they will be His blessing to many!

RESULTS!!!!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! Our goal was 25 units. Even with equipment malfunctions and long wait times we saw 33 donors, with 4 donors that at-tempted to give but were deferred, finishing the day with 29 units - surpassing our goal. Each unit has the potential to help 3 people making it possible to help as many as 87 people and the patients are very appreciative. Our next drive is scheduled for Monday, August 18 from 3 - 7 pm. You will notice some new changes made diminishing wait times. Last day to donate at another drive yet be eligible to donate at PVLC is June 22.

TORNADO RELIEF

On Saturday, April 12th, Natalie Amhof, Dawn Marti, Dan Bartel and Pastor Bob represented PVLC at a tornado relief effort in Washington, Illinois (6 miles from Peoria) where some 470 homes were completely destroyed, and over 700 others damaged to various degrees. Leaving from Park View at 5:30am, they ar-rived at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wash-ington at 7:45am, joining another 100 volunteers from Iowa and Illinois. Our PVLC group worked at 4 sites, clean-ing and raking debris, and putting them into dumpsters: carpets and plywood, many stock bricks from fallen walls, broken glass, insulation, and more. We had the opportunity to hear the stories of several tornado survivors, to encourage them, and to share our faith in Christ with them. Our Savior’s women provided a scrumptious meal for all volunteers. Our group arrived back in Park View at about 5:15pm.

Dear PVLC, Thank you for the gift bag. How very thoughtful of you to think of me with the Love Bag! I wish the Lord’s blessing upon you all. In Christ’s Name, Gerald Davison Dear PVLC, I want to send a big, heartfelt “thanks” to all of the wonderful people that brought us food, sent me cards, and especially said prayers for me during my recent recovery from surgery. Linda Johnston Dear Pastor Bartel, Thank you and your congregation for your gift of $2,215.55, which will be used to provide Military Bi-bleSticks to the men and women valiantly serving our country. More than 415,000 Military BibleSticks have been placed into soldiers’ hands. I am amazed when I con-sider that your generosity has resulted in so many families being blessed with the powerful, life-changing Word of God! Again, thank you for helping make this possible!

SHARE AND CARE PRESCHOOL

Just a few more weeks and another school year will be over. This month will go by fast while we do lots of fun activities and have in guest speakers. The children will also be preparing for their last devotion for the year. We have decided we are going to do several of their favorite game songs for their families. Should be fun. Each child will march in wearing bucket hats and Noah’s Ark sunglasses. The children going off to “big school” will each receive a children’s bible and a lap quilt along with their certificate. The Bible is from Buck Fish memorial money and the quilts are from our quilting group. What special gifts to remember their first Christian preschool experience. Thank you is not enough for what the Fish family and quilting ladies are do-ing for our preschool. This month will also end another short era at Share and Care. Leanne will be leaving our staff to move to Missouri. I have had a lot of fun working with Leanne and wish her all the best. I know she is anxious to have their family back together. I am going to miss working with her and thought we were going to have many years together. God has other plans and Share and Care will move forward. Leanne’s warm smile, gentle loving nature will be missed by our families. Thank you, Leanne, for all you have done for our preschool the past two years. At the present time we are looking very good for enrollment for fall. We have 20 paid Tuesday and Thursday registrations and 18 Monday, Wednesday and Friday registrations. Please continue to pray for full enroll-ment (40), and that we get a few more names on our waiting list in case of drops in August. I was hoping to be able to introduce our new staff member in this Herald. At the time of my writing we still have applications open. I hope we will have some good news in the June Herald.

JR. CONFIRMANDS REALLY GOT WET & WILD!

Despite pushing the date back one week at short notice because of a crack in the pool, 37 swimmers from 3 LCMS churches spent a noisy but fun 2 hours at Bettendorf High School’s pool on Friday, April 4th.There were:

26 swimmers from PVLC 7 swimmers from Immanuel 4 from East Side Mission.

(Swimmers from Risen Christ and Our Savior had church conflicts when we changed the date)

The guards this year allowed a very spirited game that was a cross between dodgeball and war; yet, those who chose a more quiet evening enjoyed the diving area and the other side of the pool for swimming with floating devices and flip-pers. PVLC swimmers were: 5th Graders: Kelly Caskey; Lizzy McChesney; Nick Peacock & friend Jarrett Fein; Kade Tippet & friend Max Adkisson; 6th Graders: Nathan Hoft & friend S.J. Madden; Hailey Howes & friend; Cody Johnston & friend Luke Kroeger; Zoe Warm and friend Brylee. 7th Graders: Jor-dan Caskey & friend Quinn McChesney; Alex Isely and friend Bryce Harhe; Mitchell Temperly; Aaron Vandivier; and Breanna Voelkers & friend Chloe Greig; 8th Graders: Conner Kull and friend Brian ; and Donavan Schachel PVLC chaperones- swimmers and/or drivers were: Bethany Hoft, Linda Johnston, Jerry Voelkers, Pastor Bob and Jeannie Mirfield of East Side Mission.
