40 Days of Prayer & Discernment

2020 - a year focused upon seeking God’s will

for the future of Park Hill Christian Church.

Rev. Dr. Craig Walls, a representative of

of Disciples Church Extension, will lead PHCC

through a 40 Day Plan of Prayer &

Discernment this Sunday, January 12th to

give an introduction to the 40 Days and

how it will work. The 40 Days will begin with a

kick-off event on Sunday, February 23rd and close

with an event on Sunday, April 5th.

How Craig describes the 40 Days:

The overall purpose of the 40 Day discernment is to allow space for

the congregation to listen to the Holy Spirt for guidance and

direction. This is a time to let God lead and ask: What are

we being called and led to do and be? What mission and/or

ministry might God be asking us to undertake?

Part of the purpose of this process is to invite the Holy Spirit to put

before the congregation something big, something that God’s people

could not possibly do without the movement and help of God. We

are being invited to dream big dreams and to envision what thriving

ministry might look like. We are opening ourselves up to the radical

and powerful movement of God believing that God has a vital and

lifegiving ministry for our congregation. This is done through

intentional times of prayer, quiet, meditation, and

discussion.

The goal is for this visioning work to be covered in prayer

every day for 40 days. This is a biblical model as Jesus retreated

to the wilderness often to be with God before important moments in

his ministry.

❖ Prayers for Teng Bol who left on 1/2/2020 for the National Guard.

❖ Jane Hoover’s brother, Max Caldwell, passed away on 12-18-19. Please pray for her sister-in-law, Fran and Jane’s family, as they mourn his death.

❖ Prayers for Lori Fink who is recovering from a broken ankle.

❖ Charlene Brown had recent foot surgery. Prayers for healing and quick recovery.

❖ Please pray for Bill Hurst, Jim Turpin's cousin. Bill is currently receiving chemo treatments for prostate cancer and had recent open-heart surgery.

❖ Continued prayers for Wendy Lashbrook as she recovers at home from her stroke.

❖ Prayers for Dennis Bell, friend of Rajean Buffa, who is recovering from multiple myeloma recurrence.

❖ Please pray for Steve Plagmann, The family of Renae Dishman Ronayne, and the family of Sandy Quinly Good, friends of Martha Fullerton.

Our children’s clothing volunteers are in need of clothing for Micah kiddos:

BOYS: Sizes 3-18 long sleevewinter shirts and t-shirts

GIRLS: Sizes 24 months – 2 all types of warm, winter clothing and size 7 underwear.

Deborah Group VALENTINE BOX PROJECT Please have recipient’s name and addresses submitted to Carleda Williams at: carleda.williams@gmail.com or the church office no later than Sunday, Feb 2nd. Due to the great success of our annual bake sale we will not be needing/or accepting donations for postage.

We will be preparing the boxes for mailing on Saturday, Feb 8th at 9:30am in the Pathfinders classroom. All church members are invited to help with the filling of the boxes. We will be collecting donations of prepackaged goodies starting Sunday, January 26th. A box will be provided in the Narthex. If you need information about mailing boxes to military personnel overseas, please contact Paula Kimbrell.

There is a small group of us women who are

interested in having a Spring Luncheon, probably

on Saturday, May 2nd, but this date is flexible.

So we can promote, sell tickets, set a menu and

discuss entertainment options, we will need a

committee and a group of at least 15 women who

would be committed to help plan and work this

luncheon. Please consider volunteering!!!

Unfortunately, if we do not get enough

volunteers, we will be unable to proceed

with this spring luncheon.
