LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Brothers and Sisters, One of the fundamental motifs of the Lenten Season is that of healing and purification. As we began our Lenten journey we were admonished to Repent and believe in the Gospel. The experience of conversion in Christ brings about fundamental healing of our hearts that have been wounded by the selfishness of sin. Sin invariably fragments our lives and leaves us spiritually and psychologically “disjointed.” Sin creates havoc within the human experience rather than the wholeness and holiness to which we are called in Christ. Lent is a time for us to purify our minds and hearts as it calls us back to the first love of our life – God’s love for us and our love for Him in Christ the Sav-ior. Two Sacraments of our Church celebrate the healing that God wants for us in our lives: the Sacrament of Penance and the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Through the Sacrament of Penance, God, like the loving father in the story of the prodigal son, anxiously awaits our homecoming when we have foolishly wandered from the source of our ultimate happiness and joy. In the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, the Jesus who reached out to heal the sick and broken hearted in the Gospels is with us still. Through the ministry of the Church, spiritual as well as physical healing – if it be God’s will – is celebrated in this Sacra-ment of mercy and comfort. Purification and healing are very much part of the Good News of the Savior. It is with that in mind that I share some very good news that I received recently. The Order of Malta which is an historic order in our Church for both laity and religious, sponsor a yearly pilgrimage to Lourdes, in France. They generously bring with them a group of malades, individuals who because of serious and chronic illness or disease, seek God’s healing presence in this wonderful place of miracles. I have been selected to join this year’s pilgrim-age that will take place from April 30th to May 9th. While I will be away from the parish for a short period of time, I ask your prayers for whatever gift of healing that the Lord in His loving mercy might grant to those who will be part of this special pilgrimage. My good friend and neighboring pastor from St. Edward the Confessor, Fr. Steve Sallot, will be journeying with me to provide assistance or, as he jokingly says, “to carry my bags!” As we begin this new week in Christ, let us commend to the mercy of God all those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, especially, Blanche Franklin, Ana Maria Fassora, Alfred Sanchez. PREGUNTA DE REFLEXION DE LA SEMANA

Declaración de la Parroquia de la Misión

MENASJE DE LA SEMANA: Ya plenamente insertos en la segunda etapa de la Cuaresma, también hoy, la liturgia quiere seguir trabajándonos a cada uno de los seguidores de Jesús. Y es que si el objetivo de la Cuaresma es caminar con Él, para identificarnos con Él y su estilo de vi-da, es necesario ir profundizando su mensaje. Aquí estamos y lo queremos hacer. Tenemos una experiencia de vida: a menudo caminamos entre luces y sombras. En ocasiones, las sombras son intensas, profundamente intensas; ocasionalmente, vivi-mos la experiencia del gozo, de la luz. Nos gustaría poder dominar la vida, los miste-rios, sus interrogantes… e, incluso, explicar el hecho de la muerte y de nuestra propia infelicidad y pecado. Y a pesar de tantos esfuerzos y avances, nos siguen persiguiendo las intensas sombras. Aquí resuenan las palabras del hijo pródigo del evangelio de este domingo: “Me pondré en camino a donde está mi Padre y le diré: «Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y contra ti; ya no merezco llamarme hijo tuyo»”. ¿No será el momento de acoger la propuesta de Jesús, al Dios de la misericordia y de la reconciliación? Y es que el Padre espera con los brazos abiertos con el fin de recuperar en plenitud al hijo con el don del perdón. Es el camino de la Conversión. Así es como nos hacemos criaturas nuevas (según el testimonio del apóstol Pablo, en la segunda lectura). Estamos a tiempo de volver al Padre, de aceptar la nueva realidad y vida que Él mismo nos brinda. ¿Por qué no intentarlo una vez más?

CARTA DEL PASTOR

Queridos hermanos y hermanas, Uno de los motivos fundamentales de la cuaresma es la sanación y la purificación. Al comenzar nuestra jornada de cuaresma nosotros fuimos invitados a la conversión con la fra-se de “Arrepiéntete y cree en el Evangelio”. La experiencia de conversión hacia Cristo trae salud a nuestros corazones que han sido heridos por el pecado del egoísmo. Invariablemen-te, el pecado fragmenta nuestras vidas y nos deja espiritual y psicológicamente “desconectados”. El pecado crea “estragos” dentro de la experiencia humana en lugar de la entereza y santidad a la cual hemos sido llamados en Cristo. La Cuaresma es un tiempo pa-ra purificar nuestras mentes y corazones así como hemos sido llamados a nuestro primer amor de nuestra vida - el amor de Dios por nosotros y nuestro amor por Él en Cristo nues-tro Salvador. Dos sacramentos de nuestra Iglesia celebran la sanación de la que Dios quiere que nosotros gocemos en nuestras vidas: El Sacramento de la Penitencia, Dios, como el padre amoroso de la historia del hijo prodigo, ansiosa-mente espera nuestro retorno cuando nosotros tontamente nos hemos alejado de la fuente de la felicidad. En el Sa-cramento de la Unción de los Enfermos, Jesús el de los evangelios, el que toca al enfermo y al de corazón roto para sanarlo aún está con nosotros. Por medio del ministerio de la Iglesia, la sanación espiritual y física – sí es la voluntad de Dios – es celebrada en este Sacramento de misericordia y consuelo. La purificación y sanación son parte de la Buena Nueva de nuestro Salvador. Es con esto en mente que yo puedo compartir muy buenas noticias que recientemente recibí. La Orden de Malta la cual es una orden histórica en nuestra Iglesia tanto para los religiosos como para los laicos, anualmente patrocina una peregrinación a Lourdes, Fran-cia. Generosamente, ellos llevan consigo a un grupo, individuos quienes por su seria y crónica enfermedad buscan la sanación en la Presencia de Dios en este bello lugar donde se llevan a cabo milagros. He sido seleccionado para ir en este viaje peregrino el cual tendrá lugar del 30 de abril al 9 de mayo. Mientras que estaré fuera de la parroquia por un corto periodo, pido a ustedes sus oraciones para que el Señor en su misericordioso amor otorgue el regalo de sana-ción que él quiera dar a todos aquellos quienes seremos parte de esta especial peregrinación. Mi buen amigo y ve-cino, el párroco de la Iglesia de San Eduardo el Confesor, Rev. Steve Sallot, me estará acompañando para ayudarme, como el diría bromeado, “¡para cargar mi equipaje!” Mientras comenzamos esta semana en Cristo, encomendemos a la misericordia de Dios a todos aquellos quie-nes han sido marcados con el signo de la fe, especialmente Blanche Franklin, Ana Maria Fassora, and Alfred Sanchez. Que encuentren la paz. ¡Siempre adelante!

De la Cuaresma al Triduo Pascual: CAMINO DE LA CONVERSION

Meditación El Año de la Fe es una invitación a una auténtica y renovada conversión al Señor Jesús, único Salvador del mundo. En el misterio de su muerte y resurrección, Dios ha revela-do en plenitud el amor que salva y llama a los hombres a la conversión de vida me-diante la remisión de los pecados (ver Benedicto XVI, La puerta de la fe, 6). Este mes de marzo, en este Año de la Fe, nos guía en nuestro camino cuaresmal de la conversión al Triduo Pascual: el lavatorio de los pies y la Misa de la Cena del Señor el Jueves Santo, la celebración de la Pasión de Jesús que nos da la vida el Viernes Santo, la Vigila y la alegría de la resurrección gloriosa de Jesús el Domingo de Pascua. En algunas parroquias, especialmente aquellas con catecúmenos, los evangelios durante marzo nos ofrecen el desafío de unirnos con la mujer samaritana y el hombre ciego de nacimiento en profundizar nuestro entendimiento de Jesús como algo más que un profeta, como el Salvador del mundo. En otras parroquias, los evangelios nos invitan a dejar que el Señor nos “pode” del pecado para que demos fruto mientras hay tiempo; para que volvamos como hijos pródigos a la casa de nuestro Padre y preparemos la bienvenida para nuestros hermanos y hermanos, pecadores co-mo nosotros; para que abracemos nosotros el perdón de Jesús, ofrecido con tanta clemencia a la mujer adultera. Estos evangelios nos piden que abramos nuestros corazones a la gracia de Dios, ligera pero pode-rosa, que lentamente purifica y transforma nuestros pensamientos y relaciones con otros, nuestra mentali-dad y conducta. Pero si en Pascua nos encontramos desilusionados con nuestra transformación incompleta, la constante celebración de la Cuaresma cada año nos recuerda: la conversión, como el camino de la fe, es verdaderamente un camino de toda la vida.
