    Dear Parents,

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would you choose? Thinkabout this for a moment, before reading on. Do you have someone in mind?

This intriguing queson was posed to dierent groups of parents and then the samequeson was posed to their respecve children. Take a look at this wonderful vid-eo to see the interesng, and very dierent ways, the parents and children re-sponded. You might want to have a box of ssues close by!

The message in this video is simple- quality family me maers. Creang the space

to talk, in a safe and relaxing environment helps strengthen family relaonships anddemonstrates how much you value each other and what is taking place in each ofyour lives. As students go through Middle School, there can be a tendency forthem to pull away from their parents, but they sll need to feel deeply connectedto their loved ones and to know that parents care deeply about them. By makingfamily me sacred parents can help keep the communicaon channels open andshow your children that you really care about them and their day.

    Student-Led Conferences:

We hope all parents are ready to come to school on Wednes-

day, March 16th for the Student-Led Conferences. The con-

ferences are divided into two sessions:

    Session 1 = 12:30- 2:30p.m.

(Students whose surnames begin with A- K.)

    Session 2 = 3:00 - 5:00p.m.

(Students whose surnames begin with L - Z.)

The SLC brochure was sent home via email on Monday,

March 7th and contains addional informaon about this

    event.

While preparing students for this event, we have received

numerous pleas from students to provide some parental

guidelines for cell phone usage during the SLCs. The purpose

of this event is to have uninterrupted me to talk with your

child about their learning to date. We therefore politely re-

quest that cellphones are turned to silent and remain in pock-

ets or handbags for the duraon of the conference. If a child

is sharing their learning and a parent is focused on reading

their email, sending/responding to texts or wring a Face-

book post, it sends a message to your child that their learning

is not important to you. Show your child how much you care

by making this a device-free event!

While everyone knows how much I love my high heels, these

too are frowned upon during the SLCs! The gym oor is not

designed for heels and as such moms will need to take their

    high-

heeled shoes o when they go to the gym. (Even I amnot allowed in the gym or on the arcial turf with my

heels!) We suggest that moms bring a pair of ats in their

handbags or wear comfortable shoes and clothes for the SLCs

so parents can parcipate in all the fun learning experiences

your child would like to share with you. As a sign of support, I

    promise to wearing ats too!

    Temporary Guardianship:

If you and your partner/spouse are both travelling outside of

Manila at the same me, please remember that you need to

complete a temporary guardianship form and submit it to the

MS Oce before you leave town. This helps to make sure wehave the correct contact details for your chosen guardian in

case your child misses the school bus, needs to go to the clin-

ic or needs addional help in some area.

    MS Academic Bowl:

On Wednesday, March 9th ISM hosted the Academic

Bowl. Three schools parcipated in the nal - ISM, Faith

Academy and Brent School. This event was a huge success

with ISM coming rst with 593 points. This was ISM’s 6th

consecuve Academic Bowl victory! Congratulaons go out

to the MS Academic Bowl Team as well as their coaches - Ms.

Holly Elwell and Ms, Holly Walker. (1st ISM 593 pts, 2nd Faith

    436 pts, 3rd Brent 321 pts.)

    Maker Faire:

Tuesday March 8th was a wonderful day where innovaon

and creavity oozed from the Lile Theater! It was truly a

showcase of student ingenuity and the countless hours of

preparaon, collaboraon and crical thinking that went on

behind the scenes helped to make this event unforgea-

ble! Congratulaons to all parcipants and to Mr. Chadwick

    who hosted the event.

    Have a great week!

    Kind regards,

    Rachel Harrington, Middle School Principal

Amanda Pekin, Assistant Middle School Principal

Need to top up? ISM goes cashless in SY16-17!

Starng SY2016-2017 ISM will implement a full debit system in the MS/HS Canteen. The debit system

provides customers with a cashless payment system once the customer's ID has been loaded with funds.

Parents and Students are encouraged to start using the debit system if they

    aren't already doing so.
