174,162 registered families with more than 1 million individuals are currently displaced in Kyber Pakhtunkwa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) as a result of ongoing insecurity since 2008. The 79,839 people (13,306 families) from Tirah Valley in Kyber Agency in March/April 2013 remain largely displaced in Kurram and Kohat. 32,482 people (7,077 families) of the 63,816 people (10,636 families) displaced from Para-Chamkani in May 2013 are estimated to have already returned spontaneously, according to the FATA Disaster Management Authority, with those remaining living in New Durrani camp, or in host communities, mostly in Kurram.

More than 1.3 million people have returned to FATA since 2009 while 1.64 million Afghan refugees remain in Pakistan.
