Pastor’s Corner Prayer Corner 2020

Weekly Income for August 01-02, 2020

Today we celebrate the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Today’s gospel (Mathew 14:22-33) tells us the story of Jesus who walks on the water, then calms the storm.

Jesus can handle your storms.

Like the disciples in today’s gospel story, we too even though we have Jesus in our life, we will face some storms in our life. But here is the good news: Jesus can handle our storms. So, when you are going through a “storm” in your life, have faith that Jesus can get you through it. No matter what storm that you may find yourself in, always remember that you are not forgotten. God knows what you are going through, and he will be there for you at the right time to help you, and He can handle your storms. Call on Jesus. Whenever you find yourself in danger or difficult situations, cry out to Jesus and say, “Lord, save me.” And when you call upon the name of Jesus to save you, He will stretch out his hands to deliver you as He did to Peter 2000 years ago. Like Peter, we all have weak moments. The truth is “A saint is not a person who never fails, but rather a saint is a person who gets up and goes on again every time he falls.” Peter is the model for us in our journey of faith. Always fix your eyes on Jesus. Whatever your storms are, always remember these words of Jesus”: "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” So, Stop focusing on your storms, and start focusing on Jesus. Like Peter, step out in faith and obey Him, get out from your boat or fear and as long as you focus Jesus and only then will you experience His mighty power, you too can “walk” on water like Peter. You don’t have to figure out how - how can you walk on the water or even fire, how to go through your storms, how to solve your problems. Nothing is impossible for God. All you need to do is to always fix your eyes on Jesus. For indeed, there is no storm too big for God to handle! Your storm might be big, but our God is always bigger! Jesus can handle your storms. Amen Our Lady Star of the Sea Pray for us

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary It is not a holy day of obligation this year. However, Fr. Emanuel will celebrate the mass of the solemnity of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday, August 15th at 9:00 Am in the church. You are welcome to attend.

A Building Fund Account: Dear parishioners, I would like to give you a good news that the Archdiocese has granted our request to open a Building Fund Account to raise funds for projects to beautify our Church. These funds will not be subject to the parish share (assessment) to the archdiocese. From now on, please write down your special donations for Building Fund if you wish to dedicate your donations to beautify our church. And please spread the news to anybody to be part of this restoration project. I would like to thank you for your continued contributions to Our Lady Star of the Sea during this difficult time. I am aware that many of you have been using the online giving program, some of you drop off your envelopes at the rectory /office during the week. Please know that your generous contributions to support our Church have always been greatly appreciated. Your stewardship is an act of thanksgiving for all that God has done for you, your family, and our community. I pray that God will multiply your “five loaves and 2 fish” that you put in God’s hands, and I pray that God will provide “12 basket full” of blessings (abundance of blessings) back to you and your family as you share your financial blessing with our church community. Finance and Parish (Pastoral) councils Meeting There will be a combined Finance and Parish councils Meeting on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 6:30 pm in the Church. All Finance and Parish Council members are encouraged to attend this important meeting. However, if you are not comfortable to attend the meeting in the church, you may attend the meeting using zoom.

Proposed New Mural - $52,500 We want to give each of you a chance to make your preference known before we make a recommendation to the Finance and Pastoral Councils, so they can advise Fr. Tanu.
