Nineteen (19) players participated in the 2017 rookie camp and tournament in Ottawa and Toronto. The list of camp invitees is built primarily around the Senators’ draft. Twenty-six (26) players were Ottawa selections in NHL drafts, 13 players were signed as free agents, 10 players were obtained in trades, three players are signed to American Hockey League contracts, three players are on professional tryouts and two players are on amateur tryouts, respectively.

The Senators 2016-17 season training camp roster included 52 players: Five goaltenders, 17 defencemen and 30 forwards of which 24 players were selected by Ottawa in NHL drafts.

Rookie tournament

The Senators participated in their 17th rookie camp and tournament from Sept. 7 to 10. This year’s tournament was held in Toronto with the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs also participating.

The Senators won the tournament with a 2-0-0 record and earned at least two victories (of a maximum of three) for a ninth consecutive year; an 8-2 win over Montreal in the tournament’s opener and a 4-3 shootout win over Toronto in the finale. The Senators rookies had trailed 3-0 in the third period before Maxime Lajoie ultimately scored the game-deciding goal in the shootout’s sixth round.
