Reactions 439 - 20 Feb 1993 ■ Once-daily felodipine as effective and better tolerated than twice-daily nifedipine. This was the conclusion of a UK study in which patients with hypertension received extended release felodipine (Plendil ® , Modip ® or Flodil ® ) 5mg once daily or nifedipine (Adalat ® retard) 20mg bid. The BP response rates were similar in both groups, but nifedipine recipients experienced more adverse effects, particularly ankle oedema and flushing, compared with felodipine recipients; adverse effects resulted in treatment withdrawal in 5/40 and 1/37 patients, respectively.
