■ Once-daily felodipine as effective and bettertolerated than twice-daily nifedipine. This was theconclusion of a UK study in which patients withhypertension received extended release felodipine(Plendil®, Modip® or Flodil®) 5mg once daily ornifedipine (Adalat® retard) 20mg bid. The BP responserates were similar in both groups, but nifedipinerecipients experienced more adverse effects,particularly ankle oedema and flushing, compared withfelodipine recipients; adverse effects resulted intreatment withdrawal in 5/40 and 1/37 patients,respectively.Hosie J, et al.
