INTRODUCTION

This listing is intended to serve as a guide to key library resources useful for foreign country research.

The guide presents selected basic reference works in a wide - variety of areas--defense, energy, economics, demographics, etc.

For important periodicals, see the companion publication, International Affairs: a Listing of Major Journals, compiled

- and published by Technical Information Sources and Services, available in the Audit Reference Services and Law Libraries. Similarly, the area of international energy statistics has been separately treated in Basic Sources of International Petroleum Statistics, an analytical bibliography produced by the Technical Information Sources and Services Branch in 1980.

In addition to the printed sources listed in this guide, Technical Information Sources and Services has access to a number of on-line data bases in both general and specialized subject areas which would be useful in foreign country research.
