Foreword1. Foreword

This operator's manual contains information and procedures for thesafe operation and maintenance of your Wacker machine. In the inter-est of your own safety and to prevent accidents, you should carefullyread through the safety information, familiarize yourself with it and ob-serve it at all times. This operator's manual is not a manual for extensive maintenance andrepair work. Such work should be carried out by Wacker Service or au-thorized specialists.

The safety of the operator was one of the most important aspects tak-en into consideration when this machine was designed. Nevertheless, improper use or incorrect maintenance can pose a risk. Please operateand maintain your Wacker machine in accordance with the instructionsin this operator's manual. Your reward will be troublefree operation anda high degree of availability.

Defective components should be replaced immediately! Please contact your Wacker representative if you have any questionsconcerning operation or maintenance.

2. Safety information

2.1 General recommendations

The oil-fired space heaters with chimney of the HD and HI series, op-erate with burners which run on fuel oil. The oil-fired space heaterswith chimney in the HD series radiate warm air, as well as flue gas inthe room to be heated, whereas the machines in the HI series have aflue outlet, which diverts the smoke out. The conditions of use for the machine must correspond to the regula-tions and laws in effect. Observe the following points:

* Strictly follow the instructions in this manual.

* Do not place the machine in rooms where there is a risk of explosionor in rooms where fire is not permitted to be used.

* Do not store highly flammable materials in the vicinity of the ma-chine.

* All fire prevention measures must be met.

* Ensure there is sufficient ventilation in the room where the machineis located. Make particularly sure for machines in the HD series thatthere is an adequate supply of fresh air in the room, as these ma-chines give off warm air as well as flue gas straight into the room tobe heated.

* The suction and discharge pipes must be kept free of obstacles andblockages. Make sure that any cloths or covers are not put on themachine and it is not placed directly near a wall or large bulky ob-jects.

* Top up the tank with kerosene at very low room temperatures.

* Check the machine before you start it and monitor it during opera-tion. Keep children and pets away from the oil-fired space heaterwith chimney.

* Always check the fan is working properly before starting up. Thenconnect the mains plug into the socket.

* Always remove the mains plug from the socket after operation.

HD 64, HI ... Safety information2.2 Safety devices

The oil-fired space heater with chimney is fitted with an electronicflame monitor. If there is a malfunction, the flame monitor shuts themachine down and the control lamp for the restart button (1) lights up. If the machine overheats, the overheating contactor thermostat switch-es on and stops the fuel supply. The thermostat is automatically resetonce the temperature of the combustion chamber has dropped to themaximum value permitted. Before restarting the machine, identify andrepair the cause of the overheating (such as a blockage in the suctionor discharge openings, fan stopped working). To start the machineagain, press the restart button (1). Follow the instructions in section"Starting up" on page 9.

2.3 Labels

Your machine has adhesive labels containing the most importantinstructions and safety information.

* Make sure that all the labels are kept legible.

* Replace any missing or illegible labels.

Item Description

1 CAUTION• Read the operator’s manual carefully.• Privide a sufficient flow of fresh air to closed rooms.• Operate the unit at least 2 m away from combusstible

materials.• Neffer pull out the mains plug during operation or during

the after-cooling phase.• Only use heating oil or diesel fuel (not bio fuels).• Turn off the unit before you fill the tank.

2 Fasten suitable lifting tackle to the machine or attach to the transport lugs.

HD 64, HI ... Operation4. Operation

4.1 Starting up

Before starting up the machine, check whether the power supply crite-ria correspond to the details on its label.Caution

* The electric power supply cable for the machine must be earthedand have a fault current protective switch.

* Plug the electric power supply cable of the machine into a socketwhich has a circuit breaker.

Then the machine can only be operated automatically if it is connectedup to a monitoring device, such as a thermostat or a timer. Connect thecorresponding cables on terminals 2 and 3 of the plug supplied. Re-move the cable that connects the two terminals together. This cablecan be connected again once the machine is running without the mon-itoring device. To turn on the machine, proceed as follows:

* Once a monitoring device is connected: set the monitoring device toallow operation (for example, set thermostat to maximum tempera-ture).

* Set the main switch (3) to the "I" position: The fan starts up and aftera few seconds the combustion procedure begins.

For the initial start up or after the fuel oil has been completely drainedfrom the system, the flow of fuel oil into the jet can be very low. In thiscase, wait a few minutes then press the restart button (1) and start upthe machine again. If the machine fails to start, proceed as follows:

1. Check there is adequate fuel oil in the tank.

2. Press the restart button (1).

3. If the machine still does not work, see section "Malfunctions, caus-es, and remedies" on page 13. Identify the cause of the malfunction.

4.2 Switching off the machine

To switch off the machine, set the main switch (3) to position "0" or setthe monitoring device at a temperature lower than room temperature. The flame goes out, the fan continues to run until the combustionchamber has fully cooled down.

HD 64, HI ... Transport5. Transport

CautionBefore moving the machine, carry out the following steps:

* Switch off the machine. Follow the instructions in section "Switchingoff the machine" on page 10.

* Disconnect the electric power supply. Pull the mains plug from thesocket.

* Wait until the machine has cooled down.

Before lifting or moving the machine, check the tank seal is firmlyclosed. The machine is mobile and delivered on wheels. The machine can beloaded and unloaded with ropes or chains using the transport lugs.Hold onto the handle and roll the machine on the wheels.

6. MaintenanceTo ensure the machine can operate properly, the combustion cham-ber, the burner and the fan must be cleaned regularly.CautionBefore you start maintenance work, carry out the following steps:

* Switch off the machine. Follow the instructions in section "Switchingoff the machine" on page 10.

* Disconnect the electric power supply. Pull the mains plug from thesocket.

* Wait until the machine has cooled down.

After every 50 hours of operation, carry out the following maintenancemeasures:

* Dismantle the filter and clean it with uncontaminated diesel oil.

* Remove the cylindrical external cladding and clean inside the ma-chine and the cooling fins.

* Check the condition of the cable and the high voltage connectionson the electrodes.

* Dismantle the burner and clean the individual components. Cleanthe electrodes and set the distance as illustrated in figure 1.
