PARTS OF AN OHP
Transparencyprojector is a visualtool that can be usedin a normal
classroom. Thisprojector is ateaching aid inachieving moreeffective teaching, where the studentswill be taught in away to see and hear.

Handling of OHP
a. Make sure you properly understand the brand and functions ofprojector parts you are using. This may vary from one device toanother device.
b. You must learn to detect damage to the bulbs so that they can befixed.
Be careful when replacing the bulb. Do not touch it with bare handbecause the bulb can be easily damaged.
c. Clean the mirror plate inside the projector occasionally.d. Project the image to the wall or a white cloth if there is no screen.e. The transparency Projector unit should be moved using a trolley for easy
transfer from one place to another. Switch off the power before moving.

f. For a good display, the following must be observed:i. Screen width of 1.5 m for a room for 40 people
ii. Screen is not glossyiii. Getting a little lightiv. Put at the height of 70 cm from the floor
v. Tilt 45 degrees to avoid the effects of distortion(keystone)
vi. Make sure the screen is uprightvii. Do not block by users so that can be seen by all
students.viii. All writings and drawings must be in accordance with
the appropriate size.ix. Use a straight pointed indicator and show something on
transparencyrather than on the image on the screen.

Advantages
1. The teacher canmaintain eye
contact while usingthe overhead.
2. Transparenciescan be made
professionally orby the teacher.
3. Colour can beused.
5. Transparenciesare easy to prepare
6. Overlays can beused for
sequencedpresentations.
7. Transparenciesare reusable.
8. They can beused with bothlarge and small
groups.
9. Transparenciescan be used with
normal roomlighting.
10. Overheadprojectors are
simple to operate.
11. Transparencies can be made with copymachines (be sure to use the correct film type
with the correct temperature setting.)

Disadvantages or Limitations
costly
moving theprojector around
can result indamage.
Occasionally,transparencies become
overheated, causingthem to be damaged.
Professionally preparedtransparencies cannotbe easily modified asinformation changes.
The process ofgetting the
projection image ata height where all
can see oftenproduces a
"keystoning" effect.

Application 1. Make sure the overhead projector is available when you need it.
2. Have your transparencies prepared and organized in advance of their use.
3. Turn the projector off when changing transparencies so as not to distract the
viewers.
4. Use a pencil or small pointer to point out important information directly on thetransparency.
5. A cellophane roll or blank sheets of acetate can be used in the sameway as the chalkboard.
6. Students should be encouraged to learn to use the overhead in making studentpresentations.

Basic Principles of Preparing OHPTransparency.
Do not put too many information on a transparency. It mayconfuse the students.
The layout must be systematic. All the information areimportant. The information should be arranged systematicallywith the different fonts and colours.
Make sure all the information ion the transparency can beprojected on the screen. Teacher should ensure that the spaceon the transparency are correctly use.

The basic principles of preparing thetransparency consists of the content, layout, format and the scope of the
transparency.

Good Preparation of OHPTransparency
1. Write-on (secara tulis terus) Can be used directly by writing on it. Write the info using liquid soluble ink pens or dry
ink pens to make sure the writing is not dirtywhen accidently touch.
Recommended writing (fonts) on the
transparency: Small letter : 3mm (1/8 inch high) CAPITAL LETTER : 6mm (1/4 inch high)

2. Thermal (penggunaan bahan kimia termalatau peka haba)
Transparency film coated with thermal chemical. Included in the stencil maker tool that will burn
the chemical substance on the film surface toproduce an image.

Effective Use of OHP Transparency
1. Progressive Transparency (secara urutan) Most basic and useful for teaching purposes. During teaching, teacher will explain the content
progressively (step by step). Helps pupils to focus on the main point. Helps pupils to maintain their interest towards the topic.
While explain one of the content, the teacher can close theother content by using the cover.
This technique is useful for graphic presentation to showhow the system can be shape holistically.

3. Animation Transparency. (penggunaan animasi)
Even though OHP is a permanent visual presentation, animation element can be added.
It is used to show the rotation, the flow of the liquid inthe pipe or the direction in the flow chart. The step is to combine the polarizing plastic sheet by
pasting them on the image on the transparency. While
using this, a polarizer is pasted on the projector opticlens. When the tool is rotating the image on thescreen will be appear rotating too.
