President’s Report
This month we have the AGM. If you would like more of a say in the running of the Club, please
nominate for a committee position. It can be a rewarding experience. Thank you to the current com-
mittee's work during the past year. After the AGM, Cherie Vernschuren is doing a desert, so don't
miss it just $2 a serve.
Since the last mag a lot activities have been held. A big thank you to everyone who helped out at
the Club's 33rd birthday and detailing weekend in June. With many hands helping out it was a
great success.
Another big thank you to Bill Greenwood who was able to get a large new vinyl Club banner made
for a great price, while he was working in Manila. The size is just right to hang from a standard in-
stant shade frame.
Club membership is now due. The new fees are city $60.00, country $55.00 you can pay online,
cheque or by cash. The Club’s bank details are -- Bank of Queensland, BSB 124 009, Account num-
ber 91117282.
To keep the new look Suba News letter running smoothly it is very important to keep the trip re-
ports, your favourite camp site, your car’s profile, photos, or anything of interest coming into
[email protected]. Getting this info makes the Editors job so much easier.
Always check on the What’s On section on www.subaclub.com and the email updates for the latest
info. Remember don’t just stay at home, get out and about on Club Trips and meetings, to meet new
friends and to enjoy driving in our great outdoors. Finally always remember to drive safely.

Reflections on my First Year in the Club
Page 2 SubaNews Letter
The end of the financial year marks
the expiry of the club membership.
All club members will ask them-
selves do I renew or not? Like most
people when you pay for something
naturally you want to get value for
money, so the question arises
“What’s in it for me”?
Before I answered this, I stopped,
and allowed myself some time of
reflection. Thinking of the past year,
took me to the beginning of my first
year of being a club member.
For years I had been searching for a
pursuit, a social activity, a group
that I felt comfortable within. I was
looking for a place that would wel-
come me for who I was. No pre-
tences. Nothing seemed to suit. My
wife attempted to encourage me to
take up golf (even paying for a 6 les-
sons). That didn’t work when I was-
n’t Greg Norman after those lessons.
After owning 3 Subarus and thor-
oughly enjoying driving all of them, I
thought that if that if there was a
club full of like-minded “Subie fans”
this might be worthy of pursuing. I
did not know where to start. I saw
the website on a number plate sur-
round, looked it up on the net, found
meetings details and a phone contact
number. I rang it. Got the details of
the next meeting and I was set. The
first meeting I attended also was
the AGM. I met lots of people. The
atmosphere was nice and relaxed. I
joined the following meeting. It was
so easy I don’t know why I hadn’t
done it earlier.
What an introduction or should I
say induction. As yet I am still be-
ing selective of what trips are ap-
propriate for the Tribeca. I have
been a passenger at other times.
The beauty of the club and its sup-
portive approach means that this is
ok. I am not forced into situations I
All of these memories have reaf-
firmed I had made the right choice
by becoming a member. Yes, I will be
renewing my membership. What is
in store for us in the next 12
months? Hopefully there will be
more opportunities to enjoy and add
to the dynamics of our family life
that did not exist 18 months ago.
So if anyone asks why should I be a

The activities my children and I have
participated in:
Ballina Beach was where I took
the Tribeca for its first
and quite successful intro-
duction to beach driving.
Under the expert tutor-
age of Club President
Dave Martin it was also
my first experience of
beach driving.

Training Weekend at War-
wick where I learnt about

don’t want to be involved with. No
judgement or negative connotations
associated when I have chosen not
to participate.
What I didn’t expect was that when
I signed up, I signed my family up
as well. The family friendly environ-
ment was the bonus I had not
counted on. I joined the club for my-
self. Some may say that was selfish.
I was meant to be. However, my
children now ask me when they are
going on the next camping trip. This
is from kids who before me joining
the club had not been camping out-
side the back yard.

A big thank you to all the Club mem-
