November 25-26 Week 14 Mrs. Stephan’s News We are still enjoying watching ‘Rusty’ videos which teach us about how to treat ourselves and others respectfully. The videos are short and cover a wide range of topics. Dates/Important Info. Math Language Arts PBIS/Behavior Phonemic Awareness This week we completed week 13 of the program. We are now working at the sound level of words with blending, segmenting, deleting, adding, and substituting sounds. This can be quite challenging. You can help your child by having them count the sounds in words at home. Remember – spelling is not part of this program. They only count each individual sound that is heard. Reminders:*Every Friday-book check-out (Thursday if Friday is a day off of school)*Every Tuesday-gym class*nut-free classroom*when snow comes, send in dry shoes to change into.

This week we began working on Topic 3 in our math series. We read an interactive book about the beach. Together we counted objects and wrote the numerals. The children worked on counting the dots on dice and finding that numeral on a Thanksgiving math sheet. Some children had time to also draw the corresponding number of dots.

We read more Thanksgiving stories this week. We are working on noticing the details in the stories and being able to talk about them and ask questions. The children made turkeys using coffee filters and enjoyed watching the ‘magic’ as the colors blended together with water. We have been working on a poetry packet together. We practice reading the words as a group and with a partner. Many of our sight words are in these poems. We will continue to work on poetry all year. A big focus for us right now is memorizing our words for the Gingerbread Play. Please also help your child to practice. The more repetition the better! We will be reviewing sight words until January when new words will be introduced.
