    ARLINGTON, Texas - Three bowlers have been elected to the

    United States Bowling CongressHall of Fame - two inOutstanding USBC Performanceand one in the MeritoriousService category - by the USBCHall of Fame Committee.

    Four-time USBC OpenChampionships titlists JohnGaines of Orlando, Fla., and DaleTraber of Cedarburg, Wis., haveearned entrance in theOutstanding USBC Performancecategory, while the late WoodyWoodruff of Long Island, N.Y., alongtime executive at AMF, waselected posthumously for nearlyfour decades of service to theindustry.

    The induction ceremony willtake place April 24 at the 2014USBC Convention in Reno, Nev.

    John Gaines, a 46-year-oldright-hander, recently helpedLodge Lanes Too of Orlando,Fla., to the highest team score in110 years of OpenChampionships history (3,538),and the 2013 Regular Team title.It was the fourth title for Gainesin his 25-year career, which

    includes Team All-Events wins in1997 and 1998, and a Regular Singles crown in 1998. He has 10other top-10 finishes and isamong the top 20 on the tourna-ment's lifetime average list.

    Gaines is the 1997 USBC TeamUSA Trials champion and was amember of Team USA from1998-2000. He earned a teamgold medal at the Pan AmericanGames in 1999 and a silver medal in the five-player teamevent at the World Tenpin

    Bowling Association WorldMen's Championships the sameyear.

    Dale Traber's four titles at theOpen Championships includeRegular Doubles in 1999, TeamAll-Events in 2000 and 2009 andRegular Team in 2009. He hasthree additional top-five finishesand is among the top 25 on the20- and 30-year lifetime averagelists.

    The 56-year-old right-hander added to his legacy with USBC

    Senior Masters victories in 2009and 2011 to go along with aneighth-place finish at the USBCMasters in 2005.

    Traber owns 10 state champi-onships and six city titles and is amember of the Ozaukee County(1988), Greater Milwaukee(1999) and Wisconsin State(2012) Halls of Fame.

    Raymond (Woody) Woodruff played a major role in the commer-cial development of AMF'sAutomatic Pinspotter, created

    AMF's pro staff and supervised andoperated the installation for the

    1957 Open Championships in FortWorth, Texas, the first major bowl-ing tournament to be completelyautomated. He also worked closelywith Professional BowlersAssociation founder Eddie Elias to

    bring PBA competition to nationaltelevision.

    Woodruff was a graduate of theHarvard Graduate School of Business, and along with variousroles at AMF, he served as presi-dent of the National BowlingCouncil and was a member of theInternational Bowling Museumand Hall of Fame Board of Directors for a decade.

    Under his leadership as chair-man of the IBMHOF board, hehelped establish the Salute toChampions fundraising event aswell as the SustainingMembership program to securecorporate contributions that

    brought in more than $100,000 inannual funding.

    Woodruff retired in 1984 after nearly 40 years of bowling-industry service and died in2009 at age 9

    BPAA ANNOUNCES BOWLINGSU.S. OPEN WONT BE HELD IN 2014Bowling Proprietors Association of America Tournament

    Committee Chairman John Losito announced Friday thatBowling's U.S. Open format will not be conducted in 2014, butBPAA expects to resume its signature tournament in 2015.

    "After running successful events in Dallas, Reno and most recent-ly in Columbus, Ohio, and soliciting some in-depth feedback fromparticipants and BPAA member centers, we want to look at ways tofreshen and improve the Men's and Women's Bowling's U.S. Opensin 2015 and beyond," Losito said.

    BPAA also announced it will conduct a Womens All StarTournament in July 2014 in Rockford, Ill., in celebration of the for-

    mation of the Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour (which later became theProfessional Womens Bowling Association) and 40 years of womens professional tournaments hosted by Rockford proprietorJohn Sommer, the co-founder of the LPBT.
