LEPHALALE - The minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga visited Lephalale last Friday for the official hand over of the newly-built Lephalale Primary School.

The school was handed over to the Lephalale community to realise a partnership that was formed between Vodacom and the Limpopo department of basic education to address the need for educational infrastructure in the Lephalale area.

The concept to build the school was first developed in 2009 when the department identified Lephalale as an area in need of a new primary school due to an influx of workers into the municipality following the construction of the Medupi power station.

Motshekga said in her keynote address that reaching out to rural communities, by providing schools and other services, as Vodacom has done, will go a long way in reducing the number of people without any schooling in the province.

“It is by expanding educational opportunities that we can hope to bury poverty. Children who will go through this school will have better choices on their fingertips other than leaving Limpopo in

MOKOPANE - Residents from GaMadiba, GaMagongwa, Mosesetjane and other neighbouring villages marched in protest against the local chief, Victor Kekana on Tuesday.

More than 700 community members who marcehed from the GaMadiba-Moshate Crossroads next to the Engen Garage allege that Kekana has sold the community’s ploughing and grazing fields to Platreef Platinum without their knowledge and of entering into prospecting and mining deals. The people claimed the traditional leader made himself the sole custodian and beneficiary of the mining proceeds at the expense of the community. He was also accused of running a terror and intimidation campaign against his opponents by using his traditional council.

This follows a bigger action on October 28 when communities from the entire Mokopane and Mapela areas marched to Mogalakwena Platinum’s offices where they met with Anglo Platinum, Platreef,

LEPHALALE - Several people were injured after an event hosted by Lephalale Mayor, Jack Maeko in Shongoane on Sunday were disrupted by members of the Steve Biko community led by councillor Koos Motsholakgetse.

According to Maeko the purpose of the event was to engage with the public concerning issues of service delivery in the Steve Biko area. He told Northern News on Wednesday that Motsholakgetse and a group of young people, tried to disrupt the gathering. He accused Motsholakgetse of illegally allocating stands in the Steve Biko area and pocketing R800 per stand and R25 000 per business stand.

Motsholakgetse who on Wednesday appeared in the Lephalale Magistrates Court on charges of public violence following Sunday’s incident, denies these allegations. He explains that the land belongs to the communal property association (CPA), chaired by David Tselane following a successful land claim in 2008. Since then members of the community could “purchase” a stand by contributing R385 to cover administrative and legal costs.

Die rowers het na ‘n uur se gesoek op die vlug geslaan met twee vuurwapens, juwele en selfone.

has on several occasions threatened to evict residents from the area demanding that they pay R200 to chief Shongoane. “The land does not belong to the chief and the community is in the process of acquiring the land from the CPA at a set amount. The CPA will then use the money to ensure that services like water and electricity is brought to the area,”

Mosholakgetse explains that the previous council budgeted for water and electricity in the area, but that Maeko stopped the process until the Chief is paid his “dues”.

Regarding the incident on Sunday, Motsholakgetse accuses Maeko of bussing people, who are not part of the community, into an area to provoke residents. He said he saw a municipal truck filled with stones, chairs and a tent drive into the area.

“The Mayor wants to fight and he comes prepared. Community members pulled the tent down and made it clear that they were not interested in a meeting. That is when a vehicle left the area and came back with a group of people who started to throw stones at us. The Mayor has formed a group called 'Majammogo' and they have threatened to kill me when they plan to return to our area on 18 November,” claims Motsholakgetse.

BESKERMDE GEBIED AREA BESTUURS PLANNEDie Limpopo Departement van Ekonomiese Ontwikkeling, Omgewing en Toerisme is die aangewese besturende gesag vir alle Provinis-iale Natuur Reservate en is verantwoordelik vir die samestelling van ‘n Beskermde Area Bestuursplan (BAB) vir elke reservaat in oor-eenkoms met die Nasionale Omgewings Bestuur: Beskermde Gebied Artikel, No 57 van 2003. Elke BAB bestaan uit ‘n vyf jaar Strate-giese Bestuurs Plan SBP en ‘n vyf jaar aaneenlopende Jaarlikse Plan van Operasies (JPO). Die SBP dien as ‘n oorkoepelende bestuurs raamwerk en sone plan vir die beskermde area / gebied en lig die opeenvolgende bestuurs aktiwiteite op die reservaat deur vyf opeen-volgende JPVOs. Dit is ‘n regulasie van die Artikel dat die aangewese bestuursgesag samesprekings met belanghebbende en geaffek-teerde partye in die samestelling van hierdie planne betrokke moet wees.

NCC Environmental Services (NCC) is die aangestelde dienste verskaffer (omgewings konsultant) om hierdie bestuurs planne saam te stel. ‘n Volledige konsultasie proses het alreeds plaasgevind met die reservaat bestuurders, regerings amptenare en reservaat bestuurs-groepe (wat die aandeelhouers insluit) en nou moet daar net meer breëvoerige aandeelhouer konsultasies plaasvind.

So tussen die lyne...As 'n dam jou bederf!

Elke jaar stuur die uitgetrede Majoor de Vos vir my ‘n spul foto’s van hom en sy ander oud-weermagpelle se vangste in Bloemhof Dam, en elke jaar hoop ek om die volgende keer saamgenooi te word.

Wel hierdie jaar was dit toe so en met groot opgewondenheid vertrek ek en 'n vriend, Francois (hy is ook vir die eerste keer genooi) al die Woensdagmiddag Pretoria toe waar ons by die uitgetrede Majoor, deesdae net bekend as Hein, gaan oorslaap.

Nie dat ek kon slaap nie. Bloemhof is bekend vir sy karp wat mens nie ruskans gee as hulle eers begin byt nie en vir babers so groot soos speenkallers!

By Bloemhof aangekom het ons ‘n ander ding leer ken waarvoor die dam bekend is: wind. Farao sou verseker die Israeliete met sambokke uit Egipte jaag as Moses dié wind as die eerste plaag voorgehou het. Verbeel jou jy sit bo op die bloutrein se dak terwyl die trein volspoed deur die Karoo jaag – so waai hy sonder ophou.

O, en amper vergeet ek – Sandveld Natuurreservaat is vernoem na die pragtige spierwit seesand wat later in elke holtetjie van jou lyf ingewaai word.

Dit alles was egter nie genoeg om Bloemhof se karpe terug te hou nie. Teen sononder het al ses die hengelaars in ons geselskap al iets in die hounette gehad. Die Broers van Centurion, Juan en Albert was loshande voor die res van ons en baie geheimsinnig oor hul aas en geurkombinasies.

Daardie aand het Moeder Natuur ons gewys hoe lyk dit as sy nou regtig omgekrap raak so ek en Francois was nogal bly toe ons die volgende oggend uit ons nat, sanderige lendelam oorblyfsels van ‘n tent kon kruip. Die wind het kalmeer tot ‘n bedagsame bries en die water het belowend teen die oewer geklots. Ek het die geleentheid gebruik om gou een van die vorige dag se graskarpies as aas op ‘n baberlyn die dieptes in te roei. Dit is glo die Bloemhofbabers se stapelvoedsel.

Terug op die ower begin ek en Francois kyk of ons kan uitpluis waarvoor die dam se karpe vandag lushet. Na ‘n paar eksperimente tref ons goud: FX op die voerbal en heuningfloaties laat die katrolle die een na die ander sing en partykeer sommer al vier gelyk. Nou is dit ons beurt om geheimsinnig te wees oor die suksesresep.

Laatoggend waai die wind weer asof dit sy laaste kans is en ons slaan oor na kaneelgeure op die bol. Ek vang ‘n mooi karp van 4 kg en tussen my en Francois het ons al ‘n sak vol karpe van tussen een en drie kilo’s.

En toe kreun die ou Penn Jigmaster. Eers ‘n stadige lopie, stilte, weer ‘n lopie, stilte en toe ‘n stadige wegtrek wat al vinniger word. Ek maak vas en voel sommer dadelik die ou platkop daar in die middel van die dam se gewig. Selfs met die hefboomkrag van die seevisstok is dit harde werk om die snorbek al die pad tot by die kant te spook.

Hy trek die skaal op 10kg, ‘n kleintjie vir Bloemhof, maar vir my ‘n nuwe persoonlike beste.

Daar en dan besluit ek wind se dinges en ek roei nog ‘n baberaas op die onstuimige varswaterseee in.

Intussen land Francois ‘n karp van 5 kg en ek besluit om ook karplyne in te roei in die hoop op iets groters en nog voordat ek behoorlik aan wal is, loop my een katrol. Dis ‘n mooi spieëlkarp van 5kg en ‘n uur of wat later spog ek met nog ‘n baber van net onder die 10kg.

Toe is ek pootuit. Die son, wind en twee aande se slapeloosheid het hul tol begin eis. Ek het by Hein onder die Gazebo gaan sit en kyk hoe sy skoonpa, Oom Dick, die wind trotseer om die een karp na die ander in te trek.

Daardie aand om die vuur wys Juan en Albert dat Bloemhof se karpe dag en nag sonder ophou byt en Hein brom omdat hy voel hy het nie soveel vis gevang as wat hy graag sou wou nie, tog is sy hounet propvol. Bloemhof maak glo so. Hy bederf ‘n mens. - Jasper Raats

LEPHALALE - Die Mogol stoeiklub het Saterdag ‘n suksesvolle stoeijaar afgesluit met ‘n prysuit-deling by die Mogol Klub. Die volgende stoeiers is beloon vir hul prestasies deur die jaar: o/6 eerste plek Samuel Leahy en Derik Bessel-ing; o/13 eerste plek Cicel Peek; o/15 kadet-ter Andreas van Zyl. Kadette eerste plek: Paul Brand en tweede plek, Jeandré Liebenberg. Juniors eerste plek: Dirk Beukes. Senior eerste plek: Marnitz Grobler, tweede plek: David van der Merwe en derde plek: André Schutte. Meesters eerste plek: Adie van Zyl en tweede plek: Hardus van Zyl. Beste Hoërskool stoeier was Andreas van Zyl en beste begin-ner: Hoërskool - Paul Brand. Beste op

Ses renjaers van Mokopane het Saterdag hul staal gewys op Polokwane renbaan. In die standaard klas het Joseph Bothma ‘n eersteplek behaal in sy klas.

In die 1660cc Modifeid klas het dinge behoorlik gekook omdat Frederick Cooper en André Coetzer se algehele jaareind punte op die punte leer presies dieselfde is en saam ‘n algehele 3de plek deel. Frederick Cooper het vir die aand algeheel ‘n eersteplek verower met André Coetzer met net een punt agter Coopier in die tweede plek. Die volgende byeenkoms vind plaas op 24 November te Polokwane. Dit sal dan die laaste byeenkoms wees vir die jaar en klas kampioene sal dan aangewys word.

Cooper en Coetzer het die vorige Saterdag aan die Spin City byeenkoms in Polokwane gaan deelneem. Dit is ‘n ‘drifting’ kompetisie, ‘n motorsport dissipline wat onlangs in Suid-Afrika vlamgevat het.

By die Spin City byeenkoms het omtrent 8000 toeskouers gekyk hoe jaers
