This week’s writing
comes from students in
class 6S. They were
asked to plan a story
about Dad (or
someone) turning a
funny colour and
floating in the air. Once the plan was
done, the writing began.
It was a frosty, Saturday morning and dad was doing
aerobics with all of his aerobic mates. They all
started doing these really weird and disturbing
moves on the ground. I just gave up watching them,
because was boring.
After an hour, everyone had morning tea. Dad was
talking to this really weird guy with a mullet. Dad
said that he felt drunk, but dad never drinks.
Anyway, his face turned hot pink and everyone
started laughing. Then, he started flying in the air….
Excerpt from Charlotte Strong
Cuddles was having a party; celebrating his
promotion as head clown at King Clowns. Cuddles was
trying to be funny, but it just wasn’t working. So,
Cuddles had a new joke-he started sucking in helium
from the balloons.
That night, Cuddles went to bed, feeling a bit
lightheaded, and extremely gassy. When he woke up
in the morning he found himself very close to the
ceiling. Cuddles wasn’t in his bed and the house
hadn’t shrunk-Cuddles was just floating!
He flew into the kitchen using the roof for guidance,
and missed all the tops of the doors. Cuddles tried
to get down to the fridge, but he was grabbed by a
huge gust of wind, pulling him toward an open window.
Cuddles flew through the window and soon enough he
was drifting in the wind like a plastic bag…
Excerpt from Sophie Willis
My family frantically wave me goodbye. I take in a
deep breath and apply more pressure to the
accelerator pedal. That’s when I feel it; a sudden
tightness in my lower stomach. I ease my foot off
the pedal and pull into a service station on the left.
As I walk towards the tacky-looking public toilets, I
notice a huge, red sign, saying… OUT OF ORDER. I
swiftly turn and get back into the car. Surely, I can
hold on.
Five hours later, there is still no sign of any toilets.
I’m still holding on. Just in case you were wondering,
it’s really hard to maintain control of a car when
you’re driving with your legs crossed.
I peer into the side mirror to see if it is safe to
ease off the pedal. My face! It’s purple!
SAM’S ENDING AFTER SHE BEGINS FLOATING
AT ANOTHER SERVICE STATION AND ENDS UP
IN A TREE!
…. Blaring sirens can be heard in the distance.
A big, red firetruck pulls around the corner. A
fireman slowly drops from the cabin. He turns and
grabs the ladder.
I try to get myself untangled from the branches,
but as I do, I continue to float higher and higher.
The fireman passes a ladder to me, but it is just out
of my reach. I continue to rise.
That’s it! I can’t hold on any longer. I release gas.
Ewww!-Egg! I get a slight boost, but then I start to
fall.
I cling to the top of the tree. I feel so much better,
but now I have a new problem. I’m stuck at the top
of the tree.
Beginning and ending of Samantha Hughes’ story
…I get a bit worried now, because his eyes are
bulging out from their sockets. Then, I hear it. A
noise! So loud, that I wouldn’t be surprised if the
Africans heard it. It was a growl. A growl, coming
from his stomach! There must be a cat-fight going
on in there!

I’m running through the park, frantically looking for,
‘Da Egg!’ It’s Easter and our town is having the annual
Egg Hunt. Every year, on the night before Easter, all
the kids’ parents go out into the park and hide the
eggs. But, every year, there is one egg that just
appears, and no one knows who is responsible for this
egg. In all the years of hunting, no one has ever
found the egg, although some people have found the
remnants of the wrapper. It has a black ring around
it, and there are golden crosses all over it….
LATER WHEN HUNTING FOR THE EGG!
….. Dad comes racing from the crowd. He put a hand
over my mouth, so I can’t say any more. With his
other hand he grabs the egg, unwraps it single-
handedly, and swallows the 15 cm in diameter egg,
whole. I’m trying to say how much of an idiot I think
he is, but his strong, sturdy, slick hand has a good
hold of me. He looks at me. I look back at him. I see
two large white teeth poke out of his mouth. His hair
starts to go a light shade of white. You would swear
he was turning into a cloud. His feet burst out of his
shoes. Ears pop out of his head.
“The Easter Bunny!” Scream all the kids, as they
frantically run towards dad.
Excerpts from Charlie Dudley
“Dad! You’ve got to be careful of your peanut
allergy!”-Dad loves peanuts and peanut butter and
anything to do with nuts, but ever since he was 16,
he’s been allergic. So, what mum and I tend to do, is
disguise the nuts in brussel sprouts or anything
green. He doesn’t even give it a thought.
Then, one day dad reached into the back of the
fridge to get a cake for my 12th birthday, and when
he did he knocked the brussel sprouts over. Peanuts
poured out of them and dad was like an ant-eater
sucking them from the ground.
He began floating like an inflatable sales gorilla…
Excerpt from Tom Cochrane
Dad was having a great time, sitting on the couch,
happily eating his bright, red, bubblegum. He is
always chewing on a red piece of bubblegum. It’s like
he has an addiction; he should be in rehab.
After dad had gotten through 50 pieces of
bubblegum that day, something crazy happened. All
of a sudden he turned into a ball of chewed
bubblegum, the colour of hot, red chilli. And then, a
big gust of wind came from out of nowhere and blew
him up like a bowling ball…
Excerpt from Holly Amor
RALPH’S BIG DAY
Dad was on the farm. His farm house was leaky. He
needed to go to town to get some pipes.
He got his dog, Ralph from the dog kennel. He
hooked a chain onto Ralph’s collar, so he could hold
onto Ralph. He took Ralph over to his ute, and he
pulled down the gate at the back of the ute. Ralph
jumped up into the ute. Dad checked to see if Ralph
was safe. Ralph was OK.
Dad started the ute up. He drove to the pipe shop.
When he got there, Tynen the pipe man, said,
“Would you like me to hold your dog while you go and
get some pipes?”
Dad said, “yes!”
Dad walked away to get some pipes. While he was
gone Tynen lifted Ralph into Tynen’s ute, and then he
took off. He drove to the dog pound.
At the dog pound, Tynen put Ralph in a cage with lots
of other dogs. There was Indi, the sausage dog.
There was Benji, the jack russell. There was Kyle,
the police sausage dog. There was Riley, the whippet.
They didn’t like Ralph, so they attacked him. Ralph
dug a big hole and he escaped.
He ran all the way to the pipe shop, and hopped into
Dad’s ute.
Dad said to Ralph,” what have you been up to?”
Ralph just barked and smiled.
As told to Mr Hogan by: Tynen, Benji, Indi, Kyle
and Riley.
FROM KCH When Dad leaves
home, his favourite dog is in the back of the ute, but when he
gets to town, it is gone. Tell the tale!

HAIRY McLAIRY GETS STUCK
Dad was working out of town on a dairy farm. He had
finished the milking and he decided to go into town
and see his kids at the park.
All of a sudden he whistled and a shiny, black and
tan, kelpie dog came running. The dog jumped up all
over him.
“Sit down Hairy McLairy,” said Dad.
Hairy jumped into the back of dad’s ute. Dad hopped
into the front of the ute and he twisted the key.
Vrooooom! Went the ute. The ute went crazy down
the muddy driveway. It was slipping and sliding.
Suddenly the ute got stuck in the mud. It was
bogged.
Along came a tractor. Amy was driving the tractor.
She stopped and she got out a rope. She tied the
rope onto the ute. She tripped over and fell into the
mud. She was knocked out and stuck.
Along came another tractor. Brydey and Kyah were
driving the tractor. They stopped next to dad’s ute.
Brydey got a long rope and tied it to dad’s ute. Kyah
pressed the accelerator. The ute came out of the
mud. Brydey called an ambulance and it came and got
Amy. It rushed her to the hospital.
Hairy McLairy jumped out of the back of dad’s ute.
Dad hopped into the ute and drove into town.
When he arrived at the park he stopped the ute and
said, “come on Hairy McLairy!”
But, Hairy McLairy was gone. Dad screamed. His kids’
Riley and Alyssa were playing on the monkey bars
with some monkeys. They ran over to the ute and
said, “where’s Hairy McLairy?”
“I don’t know!” said dad.
They all got into the ute and dad drove back to the
muddy road.
There was Hairy McLairy stuck in the mud.
The kids jumped out of the ute and pulled Hairy
McLairy out of the mud. They took him to the tap,
and cleaned all the mud off him.
Hairy wagged his tail.

Riley and Alyssa
RALPH and the ALIENS
Dad was at home. He had to go to work at Tyre
Power. He got dressed in his work clothes. He
packed his lunch. He had a meat sandwich, a banana
and some apple juice. He also had spaghetti
Bolognese with peas in it.
He walked outside. He went over to the dog kennel.
He got his dog, Ralph and put him on a lead. He took
Ralph to his ute. Ralph jumped up into the back of
the ute.
Dad got his keys and started up the ute. He put his
foot on the pedal. The ute drove off so fast, dad
started to scream. The ute went around in a circle.
Ralph got so dizzy he fell off the back of the ute.
Dad didn’t see Ralph fall off the ute. Dad drove off.
All of a sudden a big rocket ship came down from
space. It landed near Ralph. The rocket ship was full
of green aliens. They pressed a button. A big door
opened. An alien walked out of the ship and said,
“who wants to get that dog?”
An alien called Ruby said,” I will get that dog.”
“No!” said the other aliens. “We will help!”
So, the aliens’, Talitha, Xavier, Seth and Sophie
grabbed Ralph by the lead. They pulled Ralph into
the space ship. Ralph was sad. He had a broken leg.
The rocket ship blasted off. Smoke went into the
air. The aliens got a bandage and wrapped it around
Ralph’s leg, so it wasn’t sore anymore. The rocket
ship came back to Earth and landed next to dad’s
ute. The alien’s pressed a button and the doors
opened. They gently put Ralph back into the ute.
They tied him up to the ute. The alien’s blasted off.
Nee! Nah! Nee! Nah! A police car pulled up next to
dad’s ute. The policeman put handcuffs onto dad.
“Get in the police car, now!” said the policeman. “You
are under arrest for doing circles in your ute.”
The policeman picked up Ralph and put him in the car.
“You will make a great police dog!” he said.
As told to Mr Hogan by: Ruby, Talitha, Xavier,
Seth and Sophie.
There will be more tall tales and true from
other classes, in the week’s ahead.
