Excerpt from Principal’s Speech

……”Several months ago our school was validated by a

panel of 2 visiting Principals. This validation, like the

many that were randomly selected throughout NSW,

took place over 2 days, and thoroughly examined

what we do, how we do it, what we have achieved,

and where we are heading.

On the first day, panel members; Graeme from Coffs

Harbour, and Richard of Albury High, were kept very

busy, ploughing through all sorts of pre-prepared

documentation, including: specific school programs,

policies and relevant data, and by the morning of Day

2, they were ready to share their findings with Mrs

Hunter and I.

For the next 2 hours, Graeme and Richard took

great pleasure in confirming that Deniliquin North

Public is an outstanding school, particularly in terms

of the provision of learning, where it was identified

as excelling in terms of its learning culture, its

curriculum and learning, and its student performance

measures. The school was also considered to be

excelling in its use of data skills.

These findings place Deni North Public school, not

only on the podium, but also, in the gold medal

winning position.

At the end of the validation visit, and after much

shaking of hands, Graeme and Richard offered the

following ‘off the record’ comment:

“HOGES, THIS IS A FANTASTIC SCHOOL!”

Let me say that again, for the words flow as sweet

as honey,.. “THIS IS A FANTASTIC SCHOOL!”

In one brief statement, Graeme and Richard nailed it

right on the head.

Boys and girls, parents, carers and staff:

our school, your school: IS a FANTASTIC school-and

one that sparkles with fantastic opportunities,

fantastic learning and fantastic people. It is

incredibly progressive, vibrantly healthy and

amazingly resilient, and in the past 12 months, has

done fantastically well, in the face of some trying

times:

Floods, mosquitoes, a flu epidemic, Miss Smith’s 40th,

more mosquitoes, more floods. Mrs Gavel’s head

shave, mosquitoes, broken limbs, broken hearts, Mrs

Rumble!

Today’s Presentation Day ceremony, represents one

way that we as a school community, can spend a few

moments together, to remember all that is gone, all

that is done, and all that we have shared along the

way. It is a time for reflection, a time for

acknowledgement, and a time for celebration; for as

those 2 Principals-Graeme and Richard- discovered,

we, as a school, and as a community, have much to

celebrate.

As your enormously proud and fortunate Principal, I

hereby declare this speech officially closed.”
