It’s a girl
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Stone on the birth of their baby girl. Koa
arrived 4.5 weeks early giving Mrs Stone very little time to rest! Mother,
father and baby Koa are all doing well.
Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) Opening – 11 March
2016
We will hold a special opening of our newly erected COLA on Friday
11 March at 10am. Member for Keira Ryan Park will officially open our
new COLA. The school P and C were successful in their grant
application through the Community Building Partnership Grant which is
an initiative of the State Government. The P and C also partially funded
the COLA using funds raised thought out the last couple of years by the
school community! A mammoth effort! The basis of our grant
application was to further support the promotion of a healthy lifestyle
no matter what the weather conditions.
Students and teachers will participate in a whole school Zumba class to
celebrate the opening.
Student Representative Council (SRC) Elections
Congratulations to the SRC representatives who were elected to
represent their class and peers in 2016. A report will feature in next
weeks newsletter.
District Swimming Carnival
A scorching hot day meant that our school representatives were very
keen to swim in their events. As usual there were lots of supporters and
the kids from Nareena Hills demonstrated great sportsmanship!
Congratulations to all swimmers for doing your best and representing
your school with pride!
A swimming carnival round up will follow in the sports section!

Election of Ministers
Below is an amended list of elected Ministers.
Voluntary School Contributions
Thank you to the families who have paid their voluntary school contributions. Our contributions for 2016
remain the same as last year - $30 per student or $60 per family (with two or more children attending
the school).
Funds raised from the Voluntary Contributions go towards resources directly linked to the teaching and
learning programs at the school and ultimately towards supporting the students at Nareena Hills Public
School.
Payments may be made online using the POP reference: Voluntary School Contributions.
Family Holidays
I would like to inform parents that last year the Department of Education implemented a change to the
School Attendance Policy. As part of the implementation of the National Standards for Student
Attendance Data Reporting, holidays taken by students outside of school vacation periods will now be
included as absences. A Certificate of Exemption can no longer be granted for this purpose. Families are
encouraged to holiday or travel during school vacations. If travel outside of school vacation periods is
necessary, parents will need to complete an Application for Extended Leave – Travel at the school office
for my approval. If the application is approved your child’s absence will be marked as Leave. If you have
any questions regarding this new procedure, please contact our school office.
No Go Tell
Students must develop strategies to assist them in situations that make them feel unsafe. At school
students are taught the ‘NO GO TELL’ strategy. Students must have an active voice and take a
stance against bullies!
Please reinforce this strategy with your children at home:
No - Stop interfering in our game John.
Go - Move to another area.
Tell - “John… I have asked you to stop; now I am going to tell the teacher”.
Students must use this strategy to ensure timely support and action.
Nareena Hills Public School has a zero tolerance policy to bullying behaviours.
The NSW Department of Education rejects all forms of bullying. All students and staff have the right to
be treated fairly and with dignity in an environment free from disruption, intimidation, harassment,
victimisation and discrimination.
