Thought for the week

With the Christmas holidays quickly approaching, we're going to look at what happened at first Christmas, when God's own son entered the world as a baby. Why bother to do it? The Old Testament book of Isaiah tells us in chapter 9 that this baby came to bring peace on earth; peace between God and us.

Wooden Spice Racks for BooksWe are in the process of ordering some wooden spice racks from Ikea to display some of our lovely books. Due to the cost of delivery please can we request some help from parents that if you are planning a trip to Ikea in the next few weeks you might be able to collect these on our behalf? For further details please contact the school office.

No running water this week!

Following on from Monday’s incident where the school had no running water may we thank you for your co-operation in collecting your children. We were able to deal with this matter smoothly and efficiently thanks to your help. With snow still a possibility this winter it is good to see that parentmail works effectively. However please can I ask that for parents with nannies and child minders, that their

contact details are also added to parentmail so that they too are contactable should this happen again. Please contact the school office to update any details.

School Christmas Lunch

This year’s Christmas lunch will be held on Tuesday 15th December and will be open to ALL children. This is a chance for all pupils to get together for lunch in a relaxed Christmas atmosphere, with music and even a cracker (kindly provided by the PTFA). You can pay for lunch in the normal way via Parentpay or alternatively bring £2.03 in a marked envelope to the school

Frant School Carol Concert Tues 15 th Dec 7pm

Key Stage 2 carol concert will take place on Tuesday at 7pm at Frant church. Please can the children be brought to church by 6.40pm in full, smart school uniform. The concert is expected to last an hour and children must be picked up from inside the church.

Swimming – Outstanding Monies Owing

As we approach the end of term, for some children swimming lessons have come to an end. If parents have not paid towards the cost of swimming, we would be very grateful if you could make even a small contribution as we rely on these funds to help towards the costs of teaching, pool hire and transport. With thanks.

What’s been happening in my child’s class this week?

Oak

On Tuesday Oak class went to watch an exciting performance of a musical called The Shed at Uplands. In Maths, Year 5 have been solving problems using the bar method and creating systematic lists. Year 6 have been solving problems to do with ratios and comparing ratios. In English, the children have been looking at how to create cohesion within and across paragraphs. In PE Oak have been practicing their hockey skills with Mrs Douch and the children went swimming on Wednesday. They have been learning about Advent in RE including writing prayers and making a class wreath.

Hazel

Hazel class went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in London on Wednesday. It was an amazing show and everyone had a fantastic time. The class was brilliant throughout the long day. In Maths this week Year 3 have been looking at subtraction word problems. Year 4 have been working on multiplication using the place value method. In English Hazel class have been writing letters to the actors or characters in the show.

Reminders: Please bring a Christmas accessory for the Hazel Class Christmas Party on Wednesday.

Beech

Beech class have been practising (and by now have performed) their nativity play. We hope you enjoyed it! In the Maths the children have taken a small test to see what they have remembered of the work covered this term. In English they have shared the festive story “Christmas in Exeter Street” and have learned how to “hot seat”. In Art the children have created Fire of London landscapes.

Chestnut s

Chestnuts have also been practising (and by now have performed) their nativity play. In Maths, the children have been measuring around the classroom using multi-link.The children measured their shoes! The children have been practising forming “ss” and all their numbers.

Reminders: If anyone has any empty soap dispensers or free standing mirrors for Chestnuts to use that would be great. The children will be baking and tasting biscuits next week.
