We cordially invite you and your spouse (or a companion) to attend the 2015 RIT Alumni Reunionin Los Angeles, California, USA. All alumni who had attended BOC/BIT/RIT/YIT/YTU irrespective ofgraduation status, and faculty members are invited.
As you are aware, there had been seven grand reunion events over the past 15 years, starting withthe one in San Francisco, California in the year 2000 and the latest being the golden anniversary eventon the RIT campus in Yangon on 27th December 2014. The other events were held either in Singaporeor in Yangon. If you had attended any of these previous events, you will be familiar with the feeling of joyand happiness at the opportunity to be with your friends you had not seen in years. We want to offer youanother opportunity to see some of them again as well as some others who were unable to attend thepast events.
We are trying our best to make this event enjoyable for you and your companion. In addition to the main event, we planto arrange for gatherings and short trips that you and your friends will have the option to join to enjoydoing things together in smaller and more intimate groups. My life as a photographer and a tour guide.My name is Win Kyaw Zan and I have been leading photo tours since
1998 in Myanmar ( Burma ) . I have been a photographer recently but I have been admiring all the international and local photographers and artists since I was a kid. When I started working as a tour guide , I realized the importance of photography to our country and to our people.
As a tour guide , our job is to take tourist to the great locations to pho-tograph and introduce our religion, culture , history , people and so on. Or take my clients to the places that would reflect the things I mentioned . In fifteen years , I had a chance to work with many photographers who organize photo workshops and I had a chance to lead photo tours of my own. During the photo tours , some photographers like to set up things and some don't . Some like to share everything and some don't. But one thing they all care about is to make sure that they got the shot ( the photo ).
As a local photographer and a tour guide , we would take them to a great location and sometimes , set up some shots by the help of the locals , which my clients call them models . Once we set up a photo shoot , all my clients , sometimes , just tourists passing by would join the shoot. Of cause , my clients get upset if some stranger or a tourist just jump in and shoot . But it's our job to explain to my clients that our culture is to share . Sometime , they take it nicely , sometime not.
As a photographer , when I set up a photo , the photo which I'm planning to take , and to share is already on my mind. Unfortunately , I cannot just set up and shoot right away. It's our job to let our clients take the photo and wait until they are done. But in most cases , when they are done , they do not want to wait for their guide taking photo on their trip. They want us to keep going. When they are done , they would come and ask me " what's next " . Yes, it is their photo tour , and so , I always make sure that my clients got the photos but it's very painful as a photographer and a guide to set up a dream shot from the heart and never had a chance to take a photo and watch everyone is taking right in front of me. Some are very kind and asked if I got the photo too but most don't. But this had become a daily routine and I'm getting used to. So, I try to see things and try to photograph from the different corner. Different perspective. So, that I can also take photos while they are taking photos. This is what I do these days, I would set up a shot and while my clients are shooting , I would walk around and look for the angle that nobody is taking . Sometime , I got lucky.
The attached photo ( page 29) was taken about 4 months ago with 8 photographers. We stopped in this village for the second time to deliver the picture we took last year and we saw this lady sitting and smoking . Everyone grab their cameras and start shooting. I waited and waited and look for an angel that no one is shooting. Finally , I see the shot I'm looking for . I was not carrying a tripod and I had to crank up my ISO to 2000 and f stop to f 4.0 . I wanted to make sure that the shutter speed is not lower than 200 . I was carrying 70-200 f 2.8 lens with 5 D mark III and just waited for the perfect angle that she turn her head and the light hitting her perfectly . I love the lighting on the edge of her face. After the photo shoot , I cannot stop myself to tell her that smoking is not good for health.
