Moreton Bay Theatre Company — Code of Conduct Page 1 of 3 Moreton Bay Theatre Company Inc.— Code of Conduct This Code of Conduct is designed to define Moreton Bay Theatre Company’s expectations on how members, performers, production staff and volunteers (‘Personnel’) conduct themselves whist involved in activities within the company and its associates. By following the Code of Conduct, the reputation and the integrity of the company and those engaged within it will be upheld and protected. Underlying this commitment is the need for Moreton Bay Theatre Company to ensure that all Personnel contributing to the success of the company are treated with dignity, honesty and respect and make the theatrical experience attractive, safe and enjoyable for all. All Personnel of Moreton Bay Theatre Company are expected to perform their roles and duties in accordance with this code and comply with all laws and policies governing its activities and any charters relevant to their duties. Moreton Bay Theatre Company requires that all Personnel aged 18 years of over will have passed a “Working With Children Check” and will have, or be in the process of obtaining, a “Blue Card” if working with minors. All those involved with productions, classes, management and volunteering activities are encouraged to: § Treat members, patrons, performers, volunteers and production staff with respect and courtesy. Treat all members in a way that promotes harmonious and productive relationships, and a collaborative teamwork approach § Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others and their property § Be mindful of ethical, religious, cultural and sexual orientations and backgrounds § Be respectful of the theatre and working areas § Refrain from any violent behavior, or engage in any activity that will put the theatre company in disrepute whilst engaged in Moreton Bay Theatre Company Inc business § Participate for the enjoyment, work equally for yourself and the production. The production will benefit and so will you § Commit to the production, rehearsals, performance and associated activities § Respect the decisions of the Production / Management Team regardless of personal opinions § Abide by the principles of theatre etiquette § Not take an unfair advantage of, or exploit any relationship with other members in any way § Comply with all lawful and reasonable directions given by the Management Committee, Assistants, Directors, Stage Managers and Front of House Managers authorised to give them § Report any breach of code or misconduct by others of which they become aware, such as corruption, fraud, maladministration, theft etc. § Not encourage or support other members in harassing or bullying, or in acting in a way that is contrary to harmonious theatre relationships between members

The Director The show Director has the responsibility for the overall creative interpretation of the performance. They may be assisted by Assistant Directors, Production Managers, Creative Production Members and Stage Managers. The Director has the right to select actors and crew and has the right of dismissal where this Code of Conduct is disregarded through consultation with the Moreton Bay Theatre Company Committee. It is expected that performers will respect the decisions of the Director and production team and speak directly to such in private should they have constructive criticism or suggestions. The Director should:

§ Treat all cast members and production team with respect and behave in an appropriate manner § Be reasonable in their demands on performers time, energy and enthusiasm § Set boundaries as to what is expected by performers and their role in the production § Be open to performer feedback § Teach the cast the principles of theatre etiquette and stage craft

The Performer and Crew All performers and crew where applicable should:

§ Commit themselves to the production and rehearsals § Learn lines within a timely manner § Co-operate with the Production Team, accept the Director’s and Choreographer’s advice in the spirit it was given § Do not undermine the Director’s choices. Speak privately if you have feedback to give unless asked for in an open

forum § Accept boundaries set by the Director § Be responsible for props and costumes in your care § Be on time for rehearsals and performance calls § Take responsibility for personal belongings

Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying Moreton Bay Theatre Company will NOT tolerate any form of discrimination, sexual harassment or bullying. Members, patrons, performers, volunteer and production staff have the right to be treated equally with respect regardless of gender, ability, sexual orientation, cultural or religious background and physical or psychological disabilities. Discrimination is any behavior or practice which reflects an assumption of superiority of an individual or group over another and includes behavior such as unfair exclusion, discriminatory comments or questions and less favorable treatment. Sexual harassment will not be tolerated. Sexual harassment is any unwanted or uninvited behavior of a sexual nature which makes a person feel intimidated, offended or humiliated. Moreton Bay Theatre Company adopts a NO Bullying Policy. Bullying can be physical or psychological and is any behavior that intimidates, offends, degrades, insults or humiliates another person. This can include:

§ Aggressive, intimidating or frightening behavior by and individual or group § Rude and unnecessary comments § Threats of assault or damage to others, their property or equipment § Deliberately blocking or unwanted physical contact

If any person feels they have been bullied, harassed or discriminated against in any way they should contact the show Production Manager immediately for assistance. All matters of this nature are taken seriously and will be handled in a confidential and sensitive manner. Health and Safety Members, performers, production staff and volunteers are asked to take responsibility for their health and safety, ensuring their actions do not risk the health and safety of others. Every person has a duty of care to ensure they do not put others in danger or unsafe circumstances and should report any unsafe practices, accidents or hazards. All members are required to always take reasonable care and follow instructions from those in authority. Everyone has the right to a work environment that is physically and emotionally safe. All hazards, accidents, injuries or unsafe practices should be reported directly to the Moreton Bay Theatre Company Inc representative on site. Incident Reports are available from administration and should be completed and returned promptly. Alcohol and Drugs Alcohol can only be consumed by those of legal age and is not to be consumed by performers and crew until after the show or rehearsal. Alcohol may only be consumed to the extent that it does not affect the comfort, safety or performance of any member. Alcohol should never be consumed by production staff, volunteers and performers during activities where junior members are present. This includes rehearsals. Illegal or prohibited drugs are not to be consumed by members, performers, production staff or volunteers whilst performing any duties with Moreton Bay Theatre Company Inc. In the context of this provision, anyone exhibiting signs of intoxication from either alcohol or drug consumption will be prevented from commencing or continuing their activity and may be removed from participating or performing. Grievances If any person feels that they have been unfairly treated in any way they are encouraged to raise this issue with any member of the Committee of Management or Production Manager for immediate and confidential assistance. There is a range of consequences for breaches of the code depending on the nature and seriousness of the matter. The Management Committee have a responsibility to address alleged breaches promptly and in a fair and reasonable manner. They need to assess the seriousness of any alleged breaches, and how they should be dealt with. Possible outcomes for a member who has breached the Code are:

§ Counselling § Mediation § Formal disciplinary action § Suspension, Expulsion or Termination of membership § Legal Action

Moreton Bay Theatre Company Inc is committed to protecting any person who raises concerns about a breach of the Code from retaliation or reprisals. Any attempt to take detrimental action against a person who raises a legitimate breach of the Code will be treated seriously and may lead to disciplinary action. Blatant disregard of any of the Codes of Conduct may jeopardize your ability to work with Moreton Bay Theatre Company.
