Obituary
Mother Ethel Doreatha Hutchins, 81, of Virginia Beach, VA went home to be with her
Lord and Savior on April 16, 2020.
Mother Hutchins was born on July 17, 1938 in Silverdale, NC to the late Roy & Jannie
Bryant. She was educated in the Silverdale Public School System. After graduation, as a
young woman, she moved to Kinston, NC to further her career. While there she met and
married the late Willie J. Hutchins. From their union, they gave birth to three children
Mother Hutchins also worked 30 years for the Hampton Shirt Company. About twenty
years ago, Mother Hutchins relocated to Virginia to live with her oldest daughter, Denise
Patrick. Mother Hutchins loved the Lord and was not only a longtime member of New
Jerusalem COGIC, in Virginia Beach under the leadership of the late Bishop Barnett K.
Thoroughgood who consecrated her as a Mother on the Mother’s Board. She was also a
member of the Mother’s Noonday Prayer Band. Mother Hutchins truly loved her family,
but she also loved reading the Bible, cooking, baking, cleaning and singing old-time songs
of Zion.
Besides her parents, Mother Hutchins was predeceased by her sons, Calvin & Willie Jr.
Hutchins; sister, Hattie Perry, and brothers, Burzell, Edward & Earl Bryant.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Denise Patrick (Roderick) of Virginia
Beach, VA, Gloria Jackson of Stamford, CT; granddaughter, Lauren Patrick of Stamford,
CT; dear friend, Sister Edna Plummer of Virginia Beach, VA, Shirley Dixon of Kinston,
NC and the New Jerusalem COGIC Mother’s Board, and a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
