There were no other matters for the agenda.

2010. M2.5 CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

Council confirmed the minutes of the meeting held on the 27th of September

2010.

2010. M2.6 MATTERS ARISING

No matters arising.

2010. M2.7 HALL REPRESENTATIVES’ ELECTIONS

Founders and Allan Webb do not have Hall Representatives. Media councillor

has extended election for these outstanding hall reps for 24 hours as per

constitution. Council has decided to choose a provisional residence councillor.

2010. M2.8 STUDENT DISCIPLINARY BODY

The current SDB has not replied any matters regarding the hall rep elections.

2010. M2. 9 TRAINING AND INDUCTION

The previous SRC would like to continue training council, however council

has decided to open training on an individual basis. Thus the old SRC will

approach the relevant councillors and they will schedule a suitable time for

training within that specific portfolio.

2010. M2. 10 INSTITUTIONAL FORUM

This meeting should be based around tackling issues such as racism, equality

and accessibility of resources. Activism and Transformation councillor has been

tasked to find out these issues from the student body by conducting a survey.

2010. M2. 11 SRC WEBSITE

Council proposed to establish a SRC website to improve communication

channels between the student body and council. Media councillor is to present a

draft of the website at the next meeting.

2010. M2. 12 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

A raffle will be held in order to raise funds community engagement projects.

The prize will be worth R300.00 from the SRC and accessed at Pick n Pay.

2010. M2. 13 SOUTH AFRICAN UNION OF STUDENTS (SAUS)

SAUS has proposed to create one constitution for South African Universities,

thus this could lead to amendments on our constitution.

2010. M2. 14 PROPOSAL

Proposal to hold Centenary was made by the President as Rhodes celebrates

101 years of student governance. The theme agreed upon is the timeline.

2010. M2. 15 PAN AFRICAN YOUTH DIALOGUE (PAYD)

PAYD has signed an agreement with the previous SRC to use the boardroom;

however should an SRC member require using it, then preference is given to

the SRC councillor.

2010. M2.16 UPCOMING EVENTS

SWOT Week (A motion to abandon SWOT Week treats, however council by

majority decided to continue with the treats).

Centre of Social Development (CSD): Tour as an upcoming event.

Report back from academic councillor: Education library is moving to the

main library and Faculty Board is going to elect a transformational committee.

Report back from academic councillor: Information and Technology

Committee proposed that Rhodes have lecture capturing. Lecture capturing

has been tried in the Information System Department; however the outcome

was a decrease in lecture attendance thus resulting in a decrease in the pass

rate.

Report back from society’s councillor: ASEM (A conglomerate of companies)

wants to invest in Rhodes University’s sports. However this is highly unlikely

as the conditions for this investment compromise the University’s control over

sporting activities.
