always about the leader you are or the one youwant to be, but authors scarcely pay attention tothe kind of follower you are or want to become. This is a very impor tant and dif ferent point ofview that Gwen Moran brings us, showing usthat a leader to be a leader, must have been afollower f irst.

HBP is a major European research programw hich w il l a t t empt t o s imula te -us ing asupercomputer, a human brain. The project involves26 countr ies and hundreds of institutions andhopefully, it will allow fur ther development incomputing technology, as well as map braindiseases, and implement education and knowledgemanagement programs. European researchers ofthe program believe they will be able to achievetheir goal in 10 years with an estimated cost of1.190 billion euros.

As fascinating as it sounds, some scientistsdif fer from that idea, claiming that human brainmapping is out of our reach and its a completewaste of resources, they base their criticism onthe fact that our brain has about 86 billion neuronsand trillions of connections, making its mappingextremely complex, an example of that is if oneconnection is counted per second, it would takethree million years to finish. But what really triggers

unease in the scientif ic community is the fact thatfar too much of the project will be predicted, noone knows how the brain works, how these everchanging networks set our emotions and thoughtsaf loat. Which is why critics claim the project willbe useless and misleading.

However, according to the project managerHenry Markram, these critics are based on fear ofchanging the ways scientists have worked so far.And he claims they will release the f irst phase oftheir project within the next two years, allowingany scient ist to contr ibute with data and runsimulations. So far, human brain mapping has beenfragmented into smaller bits, making neuroscientistsspecialists in their own areas, therefore, mappingthe brain as a whole has been impossible. His ideais to change the way scientists have been working, combining every bit of accurate information releasedto the wor ld through publicat ions and use asupercomputer to predict the way it is most likelyfor the neurons to combine and create our emotionsand moods, along other neurological processes.

The Human Brain Project, technological advancementor complete and utter failure?Scientists from all over theworld have given their opinionon it, some in favor, andothers against. The only factas of now is the controversythe topic has caused.

The relationship between leaders and followersseems pret t y st raight for ward: Leaders lead.Followers follow.

But , a leadership lec turer at Har vardUniversity's John F. Kennedy School of Governmentauthor of Followership: How Followers are CreatingChange and Changing Leaders, says that significantshif ts in technology and culture have changed thatdynamic, giving followers more power. And theresa lot you can learn about being a good leader bylearning to be a good follower.

[Good followers] support and aid the leaderwhen he or she is doing the right thing, and standup to the leader--having the courage to let the leaderknow when he or she is doing something wrong orheaded in the wrong direct ion, says , Ph.D.,associate dean of the faculty at the Kravis LeadershipInstitute at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont,California.

Here are some skills you learn as a goodfo l l ower t ha t make you a b et t e r l eader.

AwarenessToday, leaders need to be aware

of var ious audiences inc ludingcolleagues, coworkers, customers, board members, and the public atlarge. Being a follower teaches youhow to be aware of the needs of otherpeople as well as their potential tomake my life hell from one secondto the next, she says. Good followerslearn to read people and understandwhat upsets and motivates them.

DiplomacyWhen good followers encounter

a co-worker with rabid political beliefs

or a disagreeable manager, theyre probably notgoing to f ight every battle, Kellerman says. Goodfollowers learn how to get along with those whohave differences while not ignoring those differences.Thats an important leadership trait, too, becausea leader or manager cant af ford to be oblivious tothe attitudes of those around him or her, Kellermansays.

CourageBeing a good follower means having the

courage to dissent if you think your leader, or superior,is doing something wrong-headed, Kellerman says.Being a good follower is complicated in ways thatare rather similar to being a good leader. It meansbeing engaged. It means paying attention. It meanshaving the courage to speak up when somethingswrong and it means having the energy and activismto support a leader or manager whos doing thingswisely and well, she says.

CollaborationFollowers can "make or break" the leader

inf luencing if and how goals are accomplished,Riggio says. In many business sectors, followers

are the ones who are doingmuch of the creative work, although the leader may getmost of the credit. Did SteveJobs really create the iPodand iPhone, or was it thecreative collective of teammembers at Apple? Today, leaders may be evaluated notonly by how much is producedor achieved, but by the qualityof the team or organizationand its members, he says.

The Power ofPositiveThinking

Positive thinking is a mental and emotionalattitude that focuses on the bright side of life andexpects positive results.

A posit ive person anticipates happiness, health and success, and believes he or she canovercome any obstacle and dif f iculty. Positivethinking is not accepted by everyone. Some considerit as nonsense, and scof f at people who follow it,but there is a growing number of people who acceptposit ive thinking as a fact, and believe in i tsef fectiveness.

It seems that this subject is gaining popularity,as evidenced by the many books, lectures, andcourses about it. To use it in your life you needmore than just to be aware of its existence. Youneed to adopt the attitude of positive thinking ineverything you do.

With a posit ive at t i tude we exper iencepleasant and happy feelings. This brings brightnessto the eyes, more energy, and happiness. Our wholebeing broadcasts good will, happiness, and success.Even our health is af fected in a beneficial way. Wewalk tall, our voice is more powerful, and our bodylanguage shows the way we feel.

We af fect, and are af fected by the people wemeet, in one way or another. This happensinstinctively and on a subconscious level, throughwords, thoughts and feelings, and through bodylanguage. Is it any wonder that we want to be aroundpositive people, and prefer to avoid negative ones?

People are more disposed to help us, if weare positive, and they dislike and avoid anyonebroadcasting negativity.

Positive andnegative thinking are

contagiousBeing a goodfollower

doesnt makeyou a sheep,The truth is that most

of us are infollowership roles

regularly.

Whether it rains, quakes, hell breaks looseupon us, or in this case, our everydays blackoutissues. Mint is here for you, and thus well talk aboutour immersion trip; in the dark.

This immersion trip was done at Spor t andPlay, where as the words imply, they practiced asport and played.. with a football, of course. Nowseriously, users and culture agents went there toplay a football match, learning its vocabulary whilehaving fun. Although guys, how did you see theball without any lighting? Anyhow, at f irst they

talked about the vocabulary they were going touse, the rules of the matches were explained beforehand, and it turned out to be a very enthralling andinteresting experience for everyone.

We got comments from someone whos justhad her f irst immersion tr ip experience, MissZorangel Franco says: I had my doubts inparticipating on this high skill because I dont knowhow to play football I really enjoyed this high skillbecause we learned and read in English some newwords about football matches. I think it was one of

my favor i te ac t i v i t ies dur ing this month. And another comment from someone whose

name youll probably recognize; Mister Jose IgnacioRamirez, saying: We learned the basic footballvocabulary, from positions to more regular plays, such as goal kicks and penalty kicks. We playedalongside girls, the girls of my team played reallywell and helped us win, even one of them scoreda penalty!

Our thematic week

I believe that the best way to start an editorial is to begin by explainingthe spir it in which it is writ ten in the why and the how, hence I shallcommence by telling you, our faithful users, that this ar ticle is meant toinspire you to attend this months Thematic Week not as users but aslearners. It f ills us with excitement to feel that ours is a place wherestudying is put aside to give way to something much more impor tant:learning.

In the words of Natalie Por tman, renowned Hollywood actress: Idont love studying. I hate studying. I like learning. Learning is beautiful. Now, I know Miss Portman is not commonly used as reference for quotesbut I believe that in those few words, she sums up exactly what Mint andits dif ferent cultural activities are all about.

Auditions, Thematic Weeks, Fitness and Mints Coffee are all aboutlearning more than they are about studying per se. Being here with usis meant to be a dif ferent experience where English is something thatcomes natural to our users and routines are substituted by dif ferentactivities that make us be perceived as a place where you can hang outand talk about things that you like w ith peop le that you like.

Allow me to close this editor ial by invit ing you to book Augustauditions before we run out of spots because I can personally guaranteethat whatever you program will become an oppor tunity to learn thingsthat had never been explained in such a way that could make theexperience so enjoyable.

Dur ing this high skill we engaged intostereotypical football fans, we talked about differentkinds of them, such as the haters and thesupporters, and we moved on to more interestingtypes of fans. We also discussed the dif ferencesand similitudes to other sports fans; and as it turnsout to be, fans are pretty much the same in everysport. We also laughed at how we all knew some,if not all of those kinds and at the very end theymentioned which of those types they were, andwhy.

Mr. Jose Romero said: It was a great highskill, I really like spor t high skills because I likesports.

Independence Day karaoke was inspired bythe songs which give you a patriotic sense andmake you feel your homeland when singing them.Considering the US Independence Day was this

month, we decided to take party in the USAand Amazing Grace to help users work at twodi f f e ren t speeds; s inging and speak ing.

User Carmen Romero said These songs areinspiring... One is slow and deep and the other

animated and party-moving. We learned a lotof vocabulary and pronunciat ion exercises.

How much liberty can you have? This months movie mania was related to the

Independence Day and it proposes a debatebetween the ideas of liber ty and anarchy in theAmerica of nowadays. To support the discussion,we displayed the documentary Bowling forColumbine by Michael Moore, which deals with apermissive country when to buying guns policiesmatter.

In the film, Moore investigates the ColumbineHigh School massacre in which 12 students andone teacher were shot by two students in 1999.The two students ultimately committed suicide; 15deaths occurred from the shootings.

J.K. Rowling has given fans a glimpse of theBoy Who Lived -- now mysterious, married andgoing gray -- in a new story posted Tuesday on herwebsite.

The 1,500-word story describes Harry, aboutto turn 34 (his bir thday, as fans know, is July 31),attending the final of the Quidditch World Cup withhis family and old fr iends Ron and Hermione.

It's the f irst update since "Harry Potterand the Deathly Hallows" was published in 2007,but Rowling spokesman Mark Hutchinson saidthere are "no plans" for a new Pot ter novel.

Harry now has "threads of silver" in his hairand a mysterious cut on his cheekbone, relatedto his "top secret" work as an evil-battling Auror.

The story is writ ten in the style of a gossipcolumn for the Daily Prophet by repor ter RitaSkeeter. The style allows Rowling to poke fun atthe tabloid press, a real-life bugbear that she hasaccused of invading her privacy and that of herfamily.

Skeeter observes that Harry and friends are"no longer the fresh-faced teenagers they were intheir heyday" and speculates about the state of

Harry's marriage to Ginny Weasley. She says Ron Weasley's red hair "appears to

be thinning slightly," and notes witheringly thatHarry still wears "the distinctive round glasses thatsome might say are better suited to a style-deficient12-year-old."

The story discloses that Ron spent twoyears working in the Ministry of Magic but lef t toco-manage the family joke shop, while Hermioneis Deputy Head of the Department of Magical LawEnforcement and tipped to rise even higher withinthe Ministry.

There are also updates on other characters, inc luding Neville Longbot tom and the "st illdelightfully eccentric" Luna Lovegood. There arealso glimpses of new generation of teenage wizards-- like Teddy Lupin, Harry's 16-year-old godson andVictoire Weasley, the daughter of Bill Weasley andFleur Delacour.

Rowling has long said that "Deathly Hallows,"would be the last Potter novel, but has producedother Pot ter-related material, including spinof fstory collection, "The Tales of Beedle the Bard."

@Mint_Campus

"Harry Potter" is back, albeit briefly. J.K. Rowling hasposted a short story on her "Pottermore" site whichgives a glimpse into the life of a 30-somethingPotter.

Harry Potter is back, and all grown up.

Theres a belief stating videogames are awaste of t ime, but let me tell you, theyre not!

In this issue, the only genre of videogames itllbe mentioned is RPG (Role-playing games). Firstof all, lets start by defining RPG: Role-playing gameis a game in which players assume the roles ofcharacters in a f ict ional set t ing. Players takeresponsibility for acting out these roles within anarrative, either through literal acting or through aprocess of structured decision-making or characterdevelopment. Actions taken within many gamessucceed or fail according to a formal system of rulesand guidelines. Wikipedia

Now that it has been defined, lets look at someof the advantages of playing RPG games. First ofall, they have been proved to enhance peoplesresilience through dif f icult situations, as well asdeveloping a will to f ight against all odds. As it hasbeen scientif ically proved during a study at theUniversit y of Utah: Kids who played cer taingames showed signs of improvement in "resilience, empowerment, and a f ighting spirit.

Also, games help improve decision makingskills, as most RPGs demand a quick and decisivedecision or your characters die. Researchers atUniversity of Rochester in New York suggestedgames can simulate environments which force thedecision-making process to react.

Additionally, RPGs increase players creativity, due to the need to develop a sound plan in order tosuccessfully accomplish their goals as it is veryuncommon for the developers to lay things downon you.

And last but not least, games teach you howto speak and write in the language you play them. Why? Because you are forced to understand whatthe NPCs (Non-player characters) are telling you.Theres usually no in-game point me in the rightdirection button, if you dont get what they ask you,its game over for you, as there is no way to continuewith the storyline.

Well, thea n s w e r i s :Contouring andHighlighting. Thistechnique is basicand works on all faceshapes, w i th somesmall variations.

W h a t i sc o n t o u r i n g a n dhighlighting exactly?Well, i t s using aproduct one or twoshades darker thanyour skin to createshado w s a n d aproduct lighter than your skin to bring lifeto your face.

W hy do you ne e d t hi s t ec hnique?Well, basically because the face is not two-

dimensional but three-dimensional and when youapply your foundation you make your face ashapeless, f lat sur face and you need to add theshadows and highli ght s on top o f t ha t.

You can contour w i th cream productsunderneath the foundation (or over it) and withpowder products on top of the foundat ion.

My skin is in the range of Very Pale skin tones.

So I mostly contour, because its hard to f indproducts lighter than my skin tone. If you are in theopposite situation (your skin is in the Dark range

of skin tones), it is better that you only highlightbecause the contour ing will be point less.Medium Range skin can use the full technique.

W ha t i s t he t ec hnique exac t l y?Well, for starters, you want

loads of light in your cheeksunder your eyes, on the

bridge of the nosea n d t h e

center of yourforehead. You want the shadows where

they normally appear: on thecheeks, r ight underneath thecheekbone, the sides of your face, the top of your forehead and the sidesof your nose.

Look at your face with good illumination andsee where the light bounces and where there areshadows. Thats your contouring.

Apply the dark product in the areas I justmentioned and do the same with the light colour. If you are using products in cream, you can useconcealers or foundat ions i f you like, applyeverything before the foundation that is the sametone as your skin and blend all the lights and darks

with the foundation, respecting the areas, as in,dont move the dark product under your cheekbone to either the center of your face (which youwant to keep always light) and dont move the lightcolor from the top of the cheekbone to the shadowunderneath.

Use small taps over the colours to make theedges disappear but dont mix everything together.

If you have shimmer or bronzer f inishingpowders you can use those, unless you havesevere imper fections in your skin, in which casethe shimmer will only make them more visible.

Apply blush to the cheekbone, not in theapples of your cheeks, and seal everything with

a light layer of loose powder. This takes a few tries to get perfectly,so dont get frustrated if you have

problems w i t h i t a t f ir s t.Enjoy your makeup!

Have you ever wondered whysome celebrities lookabsolutely flawless and lookas if they were glowing andchiselled out of a preciousstone?
