Upon acquisition of the AACC building from the Georgia Baptist Convention, Mercer retained HGOR to create a design vision for renovation of the building’s expansive (54,00 sf) roof terrace. To increase the building’s physical and visual connectivity to the campus core, HGOR proposed new pedestrian connections to the building, which also facilitate handicap and service access. The proposed design integrates spaces at a variety of scales to facilitate student study, collaboration, and administrative events. The sweeping forms of native landscape plantings are designed to both demonstrate Mercer’s commitment to ecological sustainability, as well as define unique spaces that support social engagement.
