Celpi Towers Testing Station

Location And FacilitiesCELPI Tower Testing Station (CTTS) is located in Bucharest-Romania, close to the

CELPI’s factory and head office.CTTS is capable to testing towers up to 750 kV Transmission LineThe testing facilities consists of two testing pads: one for towers having a base

width up to 25 meters and the other up to 15 meters.CTTS is part of CELPI SA who built towers and accessories, clamps and fittings for

major transmission lines in Romania .That testing station serve the objective of satisfying customers about design

parameters of tower by subjecting prototype tower to various test loads. The tests shall be performed in accordance with CEI IEC 60652:2002 “ Loading

tests on overhead line towers“.Testing Station CapacityA maximum of 45 loads can be simultaneously exerted.Vertical, longitudinal, transversal and wind loads are applied by steel ropes

pulled by electrical winches .The loads are applied to the prototype independently and are managed and

monitores from the Control Room. The load measurement apparatus consists of electronic compensated load-

cells connected to a PC base monitoring system located in the Control Room. The longitudinal loads exceeding 60 ton will be applied by pulling on the

resultant direction. The tower testing starts after application of 25 – 40 % of the loads (lay-out and

pre- tensioning of cables).According to CEI IEC 60652 the loads is applied in increments to 50 %; 75 %; 90

%; 95; 100 %, of the specified lods for 1 minute each step

Celpi Towers Testing Station

Measurements and material checkThe calibration of the load-cells is performed before and after tests in the laboratory annexed to theTesting Station.Transversal and longitudinal displacements are measured at each load step, by means of stadias. Afterthe test is completed, a visual inspection is carried out to ascertain the status of the various members.Eight samples are cut from the members at Consultant/Client chois and prepared and tested tomeasure yield and tensile strenth and elongation.Test SpecificationThe Client prepare and transmit to CTTS, at an agreed time prior to the delivery of the tower, thefollowing appropiate information:●workshop and/or erection drawings of the tower● The mass of each section of the tower● Requirements for the tower assembly of disassembly, including if necessary details for lifting thetower from the horizontal● Bolt tightening requirements● The tensions for any guys● Nominal force to be applied during slip-joining of sections and/or slip-joint length and theirrespective tolerances● Foundation setting tolerances and verticaly tolerances of the tower● The exact position of the load application points for each loading case● The design loads to be applied on the tower for eachloading case● The location of the deflection measuring points for each loading case● If the tower is to be realigned between individual tets● Calibration records●Deflection measurements● Photographs, video film (if required by the client)● Local meteorological data during the test● The engineering properties of component samples taken from the tower

Test ReportThe test report include the following data:● indication of the applicable standard for testing towers (IEC 60652)● designation, type and description of the tower●Name of the tower manufacturer, designer, client●Dates and location of testing●Names of the persons present during the tests● List of workshop and/or erection drawings of the test tower, including any modifications●Rigging drawing used to apply the test loads●Methods and measurements of the joint assembly●Brief description of the test facility● Loads required at the varoius points on the tower and at each load level●Holding period for the final level● Calibration records●Deflection measurements● Photographs, video film (if required by the client)● Local meteorological data during the test● The engineering properties of component samples taken from the tower
